Prepkitchen - San Marcos
Sat me outside even though I had a reservation and it was 50 degrees outside.
Service was friendly and outstanding. Food was good, vegetables shined much more than protein. Value was OK, because portion size on main was a little small. Appetizers were of a decent size. Liked the kid friendly atmosphere.
The prices were way too high for San Marcos, especially since no sides came with the sandwiches/entrees. The flavors were really good, but my favorite item, the brussel sprouts, didn't show up until after I finished my main dish (fish tacos which were more like appetizers) and I had to ask about them. The worst part is my wife was halfway done with her fried chicken sandwich and found a black hair inside it. The manager was very nice and took care of the brussels and sandwich, but the whole experience was already ruined.
Great food and menu options. Fun drink list! We sat in a “booth” made up of two cool antique looking sofas.
Great spot for dinner or drinks. Loved the ambiance and location. Hidden little gem! Loved the service - very attentive wait staff and great drink menu. Food was very good but a bit pricey by maybe 5%. We all enjoyed ourselves very much. Will be back!
Food was good but no where worth the price that they charged. Instead of chairs, there were couches at the table and it was difficult (especially for smaller people) to be close enough to their plate and be comfortable. Very small portions for a very high price. It was also very difficult to hear the person you were sitting right next to or across from, even though the place was far from being full. I will not be going back to Prepkitchen and do not recommend this restaurant, especially with so many restaurants around with good or better food and about half the price.
The food was great but the service was horrible! We reserved a table for 9 people. We arrived and got drink orders and some appetizers to start. Then, it took about 30 minutes before the waiter came to take our dinner orders. Then we waited over an hour for our food to come! People that arrived after us and got their orders after us received their food before us! And when the entrees finally arrived, one of the entrees didn't arrive and that person had to wait 10 more minutes. Our waiter didn't seem to care at all, didn't seem in a rush or apologize for the long wait time.
Our 2bd time to visit!!! Great place to add to our list of favorites
The moment you walk in the door you realize that you are about to have a lovely time. The decor perfectly complements the amazing food. We devoured the bacon wrapped dates, shared the spinach salad and the scallops. Our server was knowledgeable, helpful and timely. I can’t wait to make our way back there. It can be a little tricky to find, but it’s like a treasure hunt, you’ll be so glad you did!
Really enjoyed the meatball and clam appetizer. Service was great, they do not have many normal tables. Sofa/tables and high tables, not that many low (normal) tables (be sure to reserve as such) My guest loved his fish taco's, said they were delicious. I had the buttermilk chicken sandwich and it was "ok"..........very thin pounded chicken and i didn't care for the sauce on it..................I'd likely go back and try a burger as i saw someone else eating one and it looked very good.
The kitchen got backed up and it took a bit long to receive our food but our waiter was on it and kept us informed. Overall, good food and service. Will go back.
Great spot for some upscale dining on a date night
Had a great overall experience. The Atmosphere, food, and staff were great
Great food. Had a nice dinner at prep.
Excellent staff and service. An up and coming location.
The food and service is always great! The one downfall is the noise inside the restaurant. It is very loud. It was raining so there we did not have the opportunity to eat outside.
Very nice, if pricey, find in a place not replete with high-end culinary options. Very good food with good variety and excellent, friendly service.
Way too overpriced. Our food took a really long time to come out. We got the clams and chorizo to start which were pretty good. I got the PK burger and my girlfriend got the chicken. Our waiter didn’t even ask how I wanted my burger cooked. Luckily I always get it medium rare. The chicken was dry and lacked any flavor. The only upside was the drinks, which were really good. I say skip dinner and just come to their happy hour for drinks. Spend your money elsewhere for better food.
We have been here several times. We love that we can go to a great restaurant without having to go to the coast or downtown San Diego.
Good food and location, but
Salmon main was really good, but veggie main was very bland and Smokin S’mores were more style over substance, brownie not very good was like a brick. Told the server this and he clearly wasn’t listening, just said absolutely, good to know.
We really love the food at Prep Kitchen but this location has some staffing problems. Each time we’ve come, we’re seated outside and we’re forgotten about. After being seated this last visit, we waited 20 minutes with not even being served a glass of water, and we had to ask the staff for some help. To their credit, we were then treated well. It would be easy to overlook but this isn’t the first time we’ve experienced bad service here. Maybe if there’s a next time, we’ll request a table indoors.
Went in around 1230 on a Sunday. Very empty. Food was absolutely excellent! A little on the expensive side.
Great food, attentive service, comfortable dining room. Only negative is the crappy parking.
Creative menu, friendly and helpful staff, great addition to local restaurants. Recommend they add shades to their high windows due to southwestern exposure.
Great service for party of 9. Drinks, apps and meal were just fantastic and our server was attentive and informative.
Food and service were excellent!!
Wonderful restaurant in San Marcos! loved the food and the service was amazing!
Fantastic service...great food. The tables were spaced apart with more than ample distance so a private conversation could be just that...Private.
Chris was our waiter and he took EXCELLENT care of us. He mixed cocktails for us that were to our specifications and super good! The meal suggestions he made were right on, and the food was exceptional. We have been longing for a decent restaurant in San Marcos, and this is beyond what we had even hoped to find here.
Thanks so much Prep Kitchen. We will be regulars!
So enjoyed our meal at Prep Kitchen! Nice to have this great option in North County. Excellent food, service and setting!
Was very disappointed in Prepkitchen. Was expecting so much more! The restaurant and atmosphere is very nice, however, the menu is very underwhelming and overpriced. I HATE when entrees do not automatically come with sides. I paid $16 for a hamburger with just a pickle on the plate. There is no reason why a small house-type salad or fries could not have been offered with the burger. The rest of the party ordered the chicken which was $22 and had some potatoes under the chicken and you couldn’t even tell they were there. The server also brought my burger out approximately 10 minutes before everyone else, which I did not like.
I do have to say that the brussel sprouts on the appetizer menu were delicious and their cocktails were very good. Luckily, we got there before 6pm and they were $6 as opposed to $12. They have the ability to be a great restaurant. They are in an area where people are looking for good restaurants to eat at. However, Prepkitchen will NOT survive if they don’t improve many things.
Made a reservation and they sat us 45 minutes later. We ordered drinks, appetizers, dinner and dessert. The food was decent but definitely not worth the price.
We stopped New Year's Eve for dinner before attending a concert at the CA Center for the Arts in Escondido. Good food, excellent service and convenient to the freeway.
Eclectic bliss. We wanted to go somewhere different for New Years Eve. Found PK on yelp. Our GPS decided the shortest distance between two points is not a straight line. And the complex is really dark.
Try a different craft cocktail. You won’t be dissatisfied.
Had NYE dinner here. Unexpectedly wonderful! Smoked salad was especially delicious as were the cocktails.
The primary reason I am voting "No" on recommendation is that I discovered they include the 4% surcharge along with a note that it is because of the Minimum wage. I don't want to be involved in a minimum wage political discussion when I am just trying to enjoy a RELAXING evening with my family. This seriously erodes my desire to eat here again.
Great little spot for brunch. Look forward to coming here again soon.
Overall really good food and service. The Chef also tried really hard to please a tough table. The only criticism is that the corkage fee was unexpectedly high at $25. $20 is market for nice restaurants and $25 seems very high. It's not like they have such a big wine list to discourage bringing your own wine so they SHOULD lower this fee and then I would rate them 5 stars overall.
Birthday Brunch. Our waiter Cory did a great job. Our cocktails were delish. Table side Bloody Mary was a fun, touch.
