Prepkitchen - San Marcos
We really love the food at Prep Kitchen but this location has some staffing problems. Each time we’ve come, we’re seated outside and we’re forgotten about. After being seated this last visit, we waited 20 minutes with not even being served a glass of water, and we had to ask the staff for some help. To their credit, we were then treated well. It would be easy to overlook but this isn’t the first time we’ve experienced bad service here. Maybe if there’s a next time, we’ll request a table indoors.
Went in around 1230 on a Sunday. Very empty. Food was absolutely excellent! A little on the expensive side.
Great food, attentive service, comfortable dining room. Only negative is the crappy parking.
Creative menu, friendly and helpful staff, great addition to local restaurants. Recommend they add shades to their high windows due to southwestern exposure.
Great service for party of 9. Drinks, apps and meal were just fantastic and our server was attentive and informative.
Food and service were excellent!!
Wonderful restaurant in San Marcos! loved the food and the service was amazing!
Fantastic service...great food. The tables were spaced apart with more than ample distance so a private conversation could be just that...Private.
Chris was our waiter and he took EXCELLENT care of us. He mixed cocktails for us that were to our specifications and super good! The meal suggestions he made were right on, and the food was exceptional. We have been longing for a decent restaurant in San Marcos, and this is beyond what we had even hoped to find here.
Thanks so much Prep Kitchen. We will be regulars!
So enjoyed our meal at Prep Kitchen! Nice to have this great option in North County. Excellent food, service and setting!
Was very disappointed in Prepkitchen. Was expecting so much more! The restaurant and atmosphere is very nice, however, the menu is very underwhelming and overpriced. I HATE when entrees do not automatically come with sides. I paid $16 for a hamburger with just a pickle on the plate. There is no reason why a small house-type salad or fries could not have been offered with the burger. The rest of the party ordered the chicken which was $22 and had some potatoes under the chicken and you couldn’t even tell they were there. The server also brought my burger out approximately 10 minutes before everyone else, which I did not like.
I do have to say that the brussel sprouts on the appetizer menu were delicious and their cocktails were very good. Luckily, we got there before 6pm and they were $6 as opposed to $12. They have the ability to be a great restaurant. They are in an area where people are looking for good restaurants to eat at. However, Prepkitchen will NOT survive if they don’t improve many things.
We stopped New Year's Eve for dinner before attending a concert at the CA Center for the Arts in Escondido. Good food, excellent service and convenient to the freeway.
Eclectic bliss. We wanted to go somewhere different for New Years Eve. Found PK on yelp. Our GPS decided the shortest distance between two points is not a straight line. And the complex is really dark.
Try a different craft cocktail. You won’t be dissatisfied.
Had NYE dinner here. Unexpectedly wonderful! Smoked salad was especially delicious as were the cocktails.
The primary reason I am voting "No" on recommendation is that I discovered they include the 4% surcharge along with a note that it is because of the Minimum wage. I don't want to be involved in a minimum wage political discussion when I am just trying to enjoy a RELAXING evening with my family. This seriously erodes my desire to eat here again.
Great little spot for brunch. Look forward to coming here again soon.
Overall really good food and service. The Chef also tried really hard to please a tough table. The only criticism is that the corkage fee was unexpectedly high at $25. $20 is market for nice restaurants and $25 seems very high. It's not like they have such a big wine list to discourage bringing your own wine so they SHOULD lower this fee and then I would rate them 5 stars overall.
Birthday Brunch. Our waiter Cory did a great job. Our cocktails were delish. Table side Bloody Mary was a fun, touch.
Everything was Wonderful
Parking is a nightmare. Food is tasty but the portions are too small for the amount being charged. Not a good value.
Great ambiance, host and server were very nice and friendly. Good variety on food menu... food was amazing!
Decor was stunning yet comfortable. Food was very good. The smoke element added to my salad was fantastic. Was a little disappointed they had a large TV screen in such a beautiful restaurant. Will definitely return on a non football day.
Extremely slow service and was not busy; Andouille sausage (benedict) tasted like an oscar mayer hot dog; bloody mary was the best thing I had; spent $140 for 5—Sunday brunch.
The ambiance was so fun and relaxing. It was perfect for a Sunday brunch with friends! The mimosas and food were delicious.
If you’re looking for a date spot, this is the place to go in San Marcos! With its impeccable service and stellar food, it’s definitely our go-to restaurant.
The staff at the San Marcos location was so pleasant and accommodating. We enjoyed the cozy couch tables and look forward to a eating and enjoying the atmosphere. Great location for celebrating!
It was our second visit and the food was superb! Our table of 4 all ordered different entrees and every dish was perfectly prepared and delicious!
Went to Prep Kitchen to celebrate our friend’s birthday. Always a great time each visit.
Another excellent meal here. Farro with apricot and edamame was a great new dish, and enjoyed the shrimp skewer, sliders and fries as well. You guys did a great job this evening. Will be back again soon!
Food and service very mediocre.
Came for special occasion bday and was disappointed in the overall experience.
Probably will not make an effort to return anytime soon.
Very nice atmosphere, but the food is mediocre. Especially for the price they charge. Get a new chef, really.
Food was great and the staff even better. Friendly, fast, courteous. Great find! Highly recommend
We came here for Sunday dinner and it seemed to take quite a long time for our two meals to arrive (20 mins minimum) when there were not many tables filled. The chicken dinner was very good with the butternut squash but the salmon portion seem to be skimpy for the price. Not sure that we would come back as it wasn't a great value.
Everything we ordered was very good. My 10 year old son especially liked his petit filet steak and cleaned his plate, including the broccolini! Service was also great.
Our waiter was fantastic! He knew what we wanted better than we did.
Pros: Great food - we had the cinnamon roll, fish tacos, fried chicken sandwich, hamburger and shrimp tostada. Super fresh and good flavors. They brought out mini ice creams cones to celebrate my mom's birthday, which was unexpected and delicious.
Cons: It was super hot and uncomfortable. There are lot of windows, but also a lot of sun. The garage doors were up and that brought in flies. The entire meal we were swatting flies from our food. That was annoying. Our server was good, but was the only one on the floor. It was a little slow at times.
Great service and creative food. A bit confusing finding the restaurant amidst current construction.
Restaurant is an open space, even inside. It was a very cool evening and sitting inside was too chilly. Food is good but expensive for what you are served. Small bowl of squash soup $8, beet salad with goat cheese $14 no salad greens were included, I think the menu said some type of nuts were included but they didn't make it to my plate . A single glass of ice tea was $4. They were a bit short staffed and service was not as good as it might have been. I left still hungry and my dining partners had the shrimp dish and a pasta dish. Portions were on the small side for the price.
Food was very good and I also like the Restaurant's layout/ambiance, but the acoustic was very bad. It was unpleasantly loud. You have a rating for noise level unfortunately the highest level is called Energetic, but it wasn't energetic, there were not that many people in the Restaurant. It was downright loud.
We were only 2 and were sat at a 2 people table between two 4 people tables. Each of the 4 people table had 3 people. The Restaurant was 4/5 empty the entire evening. There would have been no harm if they spread us smaller groups apart from each other.
Even though the food is right up my alley and I would love to go back for that, the noise level was so unpleasant that I'm not sure I'll ever go back.
We ordered an appetizer and a salad to split for two people. Both were very good and were served quickly. We waited at least 25 min. to get our entrees. Both were very good. I would recommend for the food, not the service.
