Great concept, great vibe, relaxing, nice patio. New and clean. Some foods were fantastic, cool presentation but some food was a disappointment especially for a small menu. Hoping it will improve after they’ve been open for some time.

When we went here, it was not ready for prime time, maybe not even a soft opening. Father's Day was a pretty big mess. Service started well (at 5:30) but we told our waiter that we had theater tix (in Escondido) and had to be out by 7:00. They couldn't handle a 1.5 hour deadline. The kitchen was not only inefficient but 1/2 of the food was awful. The value was terrible and we've never experienced that from any PrepKitchen restaurant or Catania. They don't seem to get that if you're going to sous-vide rib eye, it still needs a good sear--this was half-seared and overdone but by the time it was served, it was too late to send back. Other dishes were meh. Petit Filet with horseradish glaze was tasteless and the sauce sticky-sweet (no bite and no trace of horseradish). Pasta Bolognese was good (as always) but presented poorly. Wayyyyy too much hickory smoke with the beet/peach salad. Subltey was missing. Appetizers were better than mains or salads although the hamachi tartare was pedestrian and the Vietnamese chicken was underseasoned. Horrible wine list. Had to ask for serving spoons (we shared a lot) and water multiple times. The host offered free deserts but we were running late and only had one. Again, meh. We didn't order it but showcasing three scoops of McConnell's ice cream that we can buy at a local Vons was a bit insulting to list on a dessert menu. The table of 5-6 next to us had an even worse experience and was fuming. On the way out, I asked for guidance to the restroom from the four people lounging around the host station and an overly enthusiast waitperson said, "Sweetie Pie, I'll take you there." I didn't appreciate the familiarity/condescension. Note to managers: Would you call my husband "Sweetie Pie?" This restaurant is way overpriced and mediocre. Note to the manager on duty: Stop apologizing and start supplementing the service if you have any restaurant management chops.

Great to have a Prep Kitchen in North County SD!!! Beautiful place, great ambiance. Reception and Service were super friendly and helpful. Food was great. We’ll be back.

Our first visit to the new Prepkitchen San Marcos was terrible. OVERPRICED, SLOW SERVICE, UPPITY SERVER. Food was barely passable. 15 minutes to get our soups and 45 minutes to get our entrees. Corn Chowder with Bacon was bland and lukewarm. Pasta Bolognese was mediocre. Roasted Chicken did not have crispy skin and got two breasts with wings rather than a true 1/2 chicken. A few fingerling potatoes and a few sugar snap peas. Roasted tomatoes and asparagus were good. $4 a drink for hot tea and iced tea. Place was noisy as hell and our table was right next to an open roll-up door and I was freezing the whole evening, which was to be my Father's Day dinner, which I made a point of I'm my Open Table reservation. Apparently Prepkitchen never got the message or didn't care. $80 for the 2 meals above. MUCH better value with better food is Pizza Nova in San Marcos!

Definitely lacking the ambiance of other prep kitchen locations. Food was excellent as most of them are. Portions did seem smaller however at this location. Service started off great but seemed to get behind and overwhelmed towards the end. Food is great but in comparison to other prep kitchen locations this is a step down.

My husband and I had a date night. The food and cocktails were very good. The service was fantastic. The atmosphere was very lively. We had a great night.

I am SO happy that Prepkitchen came to San Marcos! They have only been open a few days and are still working out the kinks - but the food and cocktails were delicious and all the employees were really trying their best. Our server Cannon was great! Even with the few delays in getting our food/drinks, it is already one of the best places to eat in San Marcos. Prepkitchen is a very welcome addition to the San Marcos restaurant scene (if you can call it a "scene") and we will definitely be back on a regular basis!
