Hadvtwo appetizers, brussel sprouts which were amazing and the hushpuppy which was ok. The hamburger was great. Also decent select wines. Would certainly return

This was easily the worst dining experience we have had in years.

Ordered the Fried Chicken sandwich. They were out.
Ordered the tater tots. They were out
Ordered an IPA from a local brewery. They were out.
Buddy ordered a Stone IPA. Beer was brought to him.
We then both ordered a 2nd round, both Stone IPA. Bartender brought us the drinks, St Archer IPA she said... we said, no, we ordered the Stone IPA on the menu. They were out. Served the other one to my buddy without telling him. St Archer is owned by Miller Colts and we try to support local breweries.

Party of 6 of us... burger was inedible, waiter cleared plates and didn’t offer a solution. Pasta was under seasoned and cold. Left over half of it.

Salad and app came out after entree.

Oh... I forgot to say... all of this on a Saturday night? And we were the only table in the restaurant at 8:30p.

Sunday must have been really fun for them.... never heard of any meat or beer deliveries on a Sunday.

I still can’t believe we paid to come sit at this place for over an hour and get served like this.

The menu is much different than what is listed on opentable and as a vegetarian, it made it fairly difficult to order. We debated for a good 10-15 minutes if we should just leave after seeing the menu. The beet salad was actually pretty good, but the other items we had - not so much. We (2 people) were also sat right next to a table of 8 who were fairly loud. Made it a not so pleasant date night out.

Great atmosphere, great food with terrific service. Home made cocktails are superb. The menu is is seasonal and a little limited, but when ordering to share, the items work well together leaving me well satisfied.

The food was amazing and the atmosphere was very cozy. The inside of the restaurant is quite beautiful. I’m planning on having another get together with the same friends group again here.

We’re keen on if you’re paying a solid price for an entree it should arrive hot. Especially when the dining room is less than half full.

SO...this was our biggest take away.

The Mimosa—-perhaps the worst I’ve had. Juice tasted diluted and not what I was expecting for 9.00

All-in-all——We like having this establishment in San Marcos and will return.

Next time I think we’ll be stronger in returning earlier the entrees if they aren’t perfect. You’d think something called a Prep Kitchen would warm the plates.

No service. Seriously understaffed. Couldn’t get a drink at the bar while waiting. People seated behind the bar area waiting for service. Menu items were not the same as the website. Finally gave up and went elsewhere. Nobody noticed. Previous times at lunch were positive.

Lunch with my sisters and mom was awesome !
The manager was great, she made wonderful drinks and we had adorable couch seating.

It was such a treat to learn about this Prep Kitchen being open. It's near my office and is a great addition to the sparse choices of "boss friendly" work lunch spots in the area. Our server and the manager were both personable and welcoming. Good service is hard to find in the San Diego area, and while I can't afford to eat at PK too often, I plan to take advantage of their relatively secret existence and visit as much as possible before it gets super busy with the completion of surrounding businesses and residences!

Big fans of the Little Italy Prep Kitchen, this one, not so much. The restaurant is beautiful, the food tastes great, but the service leaves a lot to be desired, and great service is what I expect when spending $50 per person for dinner. We were there early evening on Saturday. I am not sure if our server was also the bartender, and THAT is why our service was lacking, but that shouldn't matter. We were disappointed, and might skip this location in the future.

Expected it would be the same experience as PK Little Italy. It wasn’t. My big group complained to me about their food lacking taste or salt. I was so embarrassed because it was my idea to come here.

The decor and table setup were nice. Lots of room and did not feel cramped. Service from our waiter, Patrick, was excellent and attended our table well. The food was between OK and good but have to say their French fries were addictive and old fashion was delicious. Not too keen on the devil egg open sandwich but the brussel sprouts were quite tasty.

Today was our second time dining at Prepkitchen and it again did not disappoint. Fun brunch selections. Everything was super tasty and waitstaff was amazing. What a great San Marcos gem! Will be back.

Best Salmon Entree & Old Fashioned ever!
We were happy to see that there is finally a valet parking stand out front.
This Place needs to advertise though. It is always dead in there and it should be packed!

My husband and I another couple for dinner at Prepkitchen. We sat outside to enjoy the summer evening. Our table had a metal panel on one side that was coming loose, so we asked to move, which was no problem. We received very attentive service, and the food was well prepared and tasty. We'd come back again. One request: please add a few more moderately priced entrees to the menu. We ordered the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, which was delicious, but the non-sandwich entrees were quite a bit more expensive. Overall, a good experience, though.

The food was delicious which is no surprise since this is a Whisknladle group restaurant. What really made this experience stand out, however, was the exceptional service from the entire staff. In particular, our server, Stephanie, was so gracious and warm despite our numerous requests due to dining with our older parents and our baby. Our family was also impressed. The ambiance is also lovely. Overall an excellent experience. We'll be back!

Had a wonderful experience! I've been to the Prep Kitchen in San Marcos numerous times and they never disappoint. The service and the food are both wonderful. My favorite are the scallop and salmon dishes.

My husband and I have enjoyed dining here several times and there seems to have been a change in management. It wasn’t busy but plenty of staff running around looking very disorganized. The food was good but not as good as prior times. I hope this was a one-off day, it’s such a nice venue.

We got to the restaurant in time for our reservation. We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or out we said out. The hostess asked us to wait a sec and walked away..a few minutes later we were asked if we had a reservation we said yes gave the last name and again we were asked “inside or out” again we said out. He tells us there is a fly problem outside and suggested we opt for inside and we did. He took us to our table........and there we sat for the next 30 minutes with out a single person coming by to acknowledge our presence. At that point we started looking at back up options assuming someone would be by at some point..:nope! Another 10 minutes later we got up and walked out..:passed the hostess and host who initially treated us when we arrived and neither asked why were were leaving.....cause NO ONE CARED! Will never ever be back there. We’d rather spend our money at places where our business is appreciated

The initial service sucked. The greeter was not inviting. We asked for a kids menu, we never got. We had to ask again. Our server took too long to serve us and then come to find out, she was no longer our server, which turned out to be a good thing. The server that replaced the first server was so much better, more responsive. But unfortunately, the food was just ok. The brussel sprout appetizer was really good, but my husband’s main course, which was the burger, was just ok. The burger that we make at home is so much better.

What I really liked about the place is the look. It has a very modern look.

Our experience at Prep Kitchen was top notch, from the moment we entered the restaurant to the last bite. Robby, the GM, welcomed us and made sure that our experience was enjoyable. The Vitner's plate was outstanding--a definite 'must-order'! The quality of the food is high and the prices are very reasonable. The Wagyu beef (we ordered the top sirloin) literally melts in your mouth. The decor and ambiance is cozy and chic. Definitely will return again when in the San Marcos area.

This was my second time eating at prep kitchen. The first time we went it was just fine. This time, not so much! I had called the restaurant in the morning to remind them it was my friends birthday. They said they would note it and look forward to us coming. The waiter had absolutely no idea it was anybody’s birthday! Service was very poor, took forever to get cocktails and food. The food was marginal at best. I got the feeling that there was a lack of caring about service and food. And to top it off, we asked the bill be split three different ways and even that became a disaster. Will not be returning!

We met for brunch, and it was a very pleasant experience. Our waiter was great with plenty of patience for our “special orders.” The short rib hash was delicious! The sofas were not quite comfortable for at least one of us, but overall it was really nice. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and return when I am in the area. The manager was also very friendly and cordial.
