Great food and service!
the flavor of the food is really good, nice area if you go with your pet, we like it a lot.
Had lunch here last weekend. Sat outside which was lovely. Had a great salad and friendly service. We were a party of 3 and all of us ordered ice coffee. We were a little surprised to see the ice coffee arrive in a bottle, it was good. BUT we were every more surprised if not shocked to see that each of those ice coffee's cost $7.00! That was totally outrageous and we should have been informed about the price when we ordered it!! What happened to pouring hot coffee over a glass of ice!!
This is a favorite of ours. Whether lunch, dinner, weekend brunch, or a business meal, Prep Kitchen is well suited for all occasions. The food is outstanding, the service has always been prompt and friendly, and the environment has a great aura. Highly recommend!
Cool venue, trendy, casual vibe. Food was good, but courses came out rushed. Beet salad was excellent and bacon wrapped dates were divine. Seared tuna had a very “odd” sauce/dressing. Didn’t work at all with the fish...
New menu is unfortunately lacking. Has become very heavy. I missed the variety it used to have.
Still a great location, with some solid items - burger, pasta, etc. but considering the view, a basic seared tuna as the only fish dish is a mistake IMO
It was too cold for me sitting outside at lunch. The heaters did not help me.
Fabulous wine selection
We have eaten here many times. I find it to be a terrific lunch spot. You can get in and out in an hour. The food is always fresh and delicious. The service is friendly and attentive. The only negatives are the cars go by 15 feet in front of the tables and the heaters outdoors can leave half the party at the table cold, the other half too hot. Inside seating is most likely more pleasant.
We’ve been coming to Del Mar for the past three winters and Prep Kitchen is our favorite dining experience. The food, ambience and service are all excellent. We always look forward to returning there.
Met my girlfriends mother here for dinner. I’ve been meaning to check this place out for some time now and it lived up to the hype. Everything we ate was fantastic. We started with the bacon wrapped dates which were outstanding. The sweetness of the dates mixed with the saltiness of the bacon and the blue cheese was amazing. We also had the chefs cheese board which was a great appetizer for a small group. As my main course I had the seafood stew. For seafood lovers this was delicious. As a lover of spicy foods, I just wish it had a little more kick to it. Overall the service was great, the food was different in a good way, and the ambiance was perfect for a date night or intimate setting with a loved one. I will definitely be coming back.
Excellent restaurant in every way!!!
First, Dana was an excellent server - attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. This was our first time dining here and the heated, outdoor patio was relaxing and perfect for dinner. Bacon wrapped dates were incredible - a must have. Wine selection is decent and dinner salads w steak were delicious. We will return when in Del Mar.
I wasn't too happy with my experience at Prepkitchen Del Mar. After telling everyone that Whisknladle is my favorite San Diego restaurant, I thought Prepkitchen wouldn't fail me, since it's in the same hospitality group. I was seated right away, since I had reservations, and I liked the location view wise but not parking wise. The restaurant theme was cute and it definitely felt very at home.
Now let's move onto the more important part, the food and service. The service was good. I was a little ticked off when I asked the waiter what mimosa he would recommend. He then replied that the tangerine mimosa was the crowd favorite. HOWEVER, when I asked him what HE would suggest out of the three, he replied that he doesn't want to recommend the mimosas or he can't recommend since he doesn't drink sweet drinks. Well, you know, you could've lied to me.
So I ordered the mimosa and I was extremely disappointed in the flavor. If you claim to have some kind of vanilla terragon flavor, I didn't taste the terragon flavor. This just tasted like no pulp orange juice with a healthy amount of sparkling wine splashed in the glass.
I got the applewood smoked bacon scramble....Oh man. This was such a let down. My scramble wasn't even a scramble. It seemed as if they left the eggs on a hot skillet off the heat, if you know what I mean. The scramble wasn't a scramble in a way where the eggs were just cooked into a round sheet of eggs that were scrambled before cooking. I hope I'm explaining myself. The cheese was melted but cold. The spinach was bare. The bacon was like a half of a slice of bacon. I could literally pick up my entire egg serving with my fork! My toast was toasted well in butter, but for some reason it tasted a bit sour? Maybe it was sourdough bread. This sourdough bread was a cold too. The potatoes were crispy, but it was ALSO cold! And the amount of potatoes I got was the star of the dish, amount and flavor wise.
I was really stumped with the brunch. So disappointed.
My husband and I enjoyed a delicious meal with sangrias and dessert. They don't have an espresso machine yet so that we could enjoy a cappuccino with the dessert, but their Lavazza coffee was delicious. We'll definitely come again. Most seating is outdoors which is fun but a bit chillier. The heaters helped a ton to make it comfortable and decently warm. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly.
Great addition to the Del Mar dining scene and would recommend to anyone.
terrific food, wine, service. The pasta/rabbit was amazingly tasty, as was the Chef's board.
Don't forget pot de creme too to close it out.
The food, service and ambiance were what you would hope for in a restaurant. We are definitely headed back.
We were pretty buzzed by the time we got to the restaurant for Valentines dinner. That qualifier aside, we had a great meal. We brought a special bottle of red and the waiter didn’t shame us. The buratta appetizer is a good size to be shared. The short rib was solid and predictable which is what I wanted. My wife went with her favorite there which is the pasta with meat sauce.
We were informed all the Prep Kitchens have changed ownership and are no longer part of the Whisk and Ladle group. I guess we will stay tuned for any changes though they were promising none.
Great service paired with clever and well-executed menu. Nice Del Mar location. What more can you ask for?
Food was amazing!!!!
The service was friendly and fast. The ambiance was nice, if it weren’t a cloudy day we would be able to see the ocean. Everything we ordered tasted great. Plenty of gluten free options and it is identified on the menu. The only recommendation I have is to cook the gluten free pasta a little more as mine was under cooked, but the meat and sauce was delicious.
The food, as always, was very very good. But the service, though friendly, was agonizingly slow. I love the ambience of this restaurant. The rest room is beautiful. The room is lovely. Del Mar is a sweet little town. But the music really messed up the entire evening. Were they playing a bad 80's radio station? And it was way too loud. I can hear a better selection of music in the produce section at Von's. I would think twice about ever coming here again almost based solely upon the annoying music. What kind of ambience do they want here? The music should reflect that.
Great staff.
We brunch most Sundays at various locations. This was all right but nothing special for any of the 6 of us.
We all did not appreciate the mandatory 20% tip and. 3.75% surcharge in addition to a somewhat pricey menu. ($15 for pancakes)
Our server was awesome and dinner was very delicious.
Wonderful hospitality in accommodating our dinner needs
First time coming here for brunch. The menu has all the brunch basics covered and done well. We wanted both sweet and savory so we ordered the cinnamon roll pancakes and the chilaquiles at the suggestion of our waiter. Three pancakes to an order, they were thin but very flavorful... no need for syrup. The chilaquiles used tortilla strips, good sauce, I liked that the tortillas still had crunch. Overall great meal, great selection of mimosas. A block walk to the beach is a plus! Parking is difficult to find so recommend getting dropped off or extra time to find a spot.
A great place for the foodie in you. Attentive service and great location.
Food is good with nice presentation. Indoor seating is tight and small. Seating space outdoors is better and heaters are a bonus. Service was nice & friendly. Would recommend to those who live nearby, however, I wouldn't drive out of the way to eat here.
I have lived in Del Mar for 15 years. In my opinion, Prepkitchen is the best restaurant we have ever had in the town. It is consistently good. The food is great and the staff are amazing. I just learned that the Prepkitchen business has been sold. My only hope is that the new management doesn’t try to ‘fix’ something that clearly isn’t broken. Instead, they should look at the business and try to replicate it elsewhere. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough.
Loved it! From the delicious appetizers to the variety of creative entrees, we were dazzled by each new plate that arrived at the table! Plus, the service was friendly and spot on. Definitely returning in the future!
Our family dined at PrepKitchen on our last night of vacation, which was also Christmas Eve. Fabulous meal with excellent service! Heated patio was perfect, food was delicious, and waiter was friendly and attentive.
Our Book Club gathered for a holiday celebration on Tuesday evening and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food, the service and our friendship! Have been to Prep Kitchen a number of times before for lunch, but this was my first time for dinner. I will be back!
I have eaten here several times. Always been wonderful. Bacon wrapped dates are a personal favorite. Everything is exceptional. Highly recommend. You’ll be glad you came to prep kitchen
Excellent experience from service to food. Great service, wine and dinner
I had the butternut squash ravioli, and my hubby had the chicken soup. I love the filling and the sauce of the ravioli, but I prefer their agnolotti version—the agnolotti pasta was thinner and/or less al dente than the ravioli. Still tastes delicious though! Hubby didn’t love the soup. May just be a personal preference thing, though. We also had the carrot cake for dessert. It was just OK (the frosting had a weird consistency—seemed like it sat near a heat source before it was served). Missing the chocolate budino on the menu! My pinot noir was very good. Service was very attentive. Great neighborhood spot. Reservations recommended.
Our team had a very enjoyable lunch here, sat outside on the patio and received prompt, friendly service and delicious food. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
Delicious, creative food and friendly service. Love this neighborhood gem.
Seafood soup was way to spicy and we should have been warned !!
Friendly staff, casual atmosphere
