Prairie Star serves prix fixe menus on major holidays, and you can find details at prairiestarrestaurant.com. We are closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
We went for our anniversary because the Juniper Restaurant at the Star Hotel and Casino was closed and we were staying there. Although that restaurant is fine, Prairie Star was wonderful and reasonably priced. The food was delicious and we will be going back on a regular basis. Service was excellent and we were treated like royalty. Thank you very much!
Had not been a guest of yours in 15 or20 years. My loss, everything was as we remembered excellent. thanks
Food and the Service were great as well as the beautiful setting, only thing keeping it from being a perfect evening were a few fly's that were a bit annoying. However, the Prairie Star easily remains my favorite restaurant and I will continue to dine there.
Osso buco rested atop a huge chunk of cornbread that soaked up any juice the meat might have had. Dry, dry, dry. Waitress took our bread plates before we'd finished the bread, offered us dessert before our entree came out. Initial bill was $25 over what it should have been, management and server had a tough time figuring out how to enter the meal correctly in the register. Patio music was pleasant and so was our appetizer there. Skip eating inside and go for the patio. This meal was an anniversary celebration: we celebrated how we managed to stay calm through all this. Crossing this place off our list.
We were there by chance for the wednesday special (2 salads, 2 entrees, a shared dessert and a bottle of wine) for $65. The food was terrific and the service very good.
What a bargain! An incredible meal and entire bottle of wine. You can’t beat it!!
Very nice dinner with 7 people. Very welcoming staff. Food was reasonably priced and very good! Dessert and tapas were also good a 10. Had our own cozy room and beautiful views.
On behalf of the staff and management, thank you for letting us know your group of friends enjoyed the evening with us. We appreciate the feedback about the service and the food, and your review has been shared with the staff. We are honored that you chose Prairie Star to enjoy a special evening with friends and hope to see you again soon.
Lovely place. Truly an appropriate venue to entertain visitors: serene native atmosphere, great view of the Sandia mountains, interesting native American artifacts. Inventive and intriguing menu. Great appetizers and a good range of entrees. Fine service. Great value three course meals on Wednesday during the summer.
We are grateful for your five star rating and your recommendation! Your gracious comments have been shared with Chef Lucero, and both the culinary and service staff. We hope to see you again soon!
The wine dinner menu was both creative and tasty. Service was attentive with the folks obviously concerned if their customers were pleased. Will definitely return!
Thank you so much for taking time to leave such a nice review. We are grateful to hear you enjoyed your evening with us and hope you will be able to visit again soon!
We had thought this restaurant was to be a great experience but we were very disappointed. We would not recommend the food nor the service. The mountains were beautiful.
Thank you for taking time to submit a review. I'm disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your visit with us. We would welcome any further feedback that could help us improve. I hope you will consider coming back in the future.
Food was disappointing
Thank you for taking time to submit a review. We are always looking for ways to improve. I'm disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your visit with us. I hope you will consider coming back in the future.
Unfortunately the worst service and dining experience we had in quite some time. We use to eat here often and had not been in a while. It took forever to get initial service after being seated and then things went downhill from there. Medium rare tenderloin was cooked to well, well done and made no sense to order another since the appetizers and meals took so long to get. Would have been eating by myself in a party of 8. Server charged for drinks she never delivered. Unfortunately will not be returning to this restaurant in the future, Too many better options in town. Would also add management poorly handled the bad service.
Your feedback has been shared with the GM and will be researched with appropriate staff. We appreciate that you left your contact information in the private note section. Thank you.
This restaurant is amazing. I took my wife for dinner there since I was informed they have a new Chef. Chef Miles is amazing. My wife is Vegan and Chef came to our table to see what my wife was wanting to eat. He then prepared a special vegan meal for her that she completely loved. The food is amazing here as well as an amazing atmosphere. If you haven't tried it you really should!!!
We agree---our Chef Myles is amazing! He has personally practiced veganism in the past and with his emphasis on procuring locally produced ingredients, his vegan dishes are among the most flavorful! Thank you for taking time to submit your comments and a five-star rating. We are delighted that you and your wife had a great dinner! This is as good as a review could be and we appreciate you! We hope to see you again soon, and again, thank you for the hearty recommendation!
Awful service. We went here to celebrate my mother’s birthday. We were seated After over 20 minutes we had yet to see a server. As we left I let the host know why we were leaving. No offer to make things right. They really seemed not to care. We went elsewhere.
Your comments were shared with the appropriate staff and the GM and F&B Manager have each reached out privately via phone.
An excellent dinner for two in a great setting. Would highly recommend.
Thank you so much for taking time to let us know how we are doing! So glad you enjoyed your time with us. We appreciate your recommendation and do hope you will dine with us again soon.
Just so so
Thank you for taking time to submit a review-- we monitor our reviews for ways to improve. I'm disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your visit with us.
Great service staff and food. We also enjoyed the music. We look forward to going back.
Thank you for the nice comments! We appreciate you and hope to see you again soon!
We dined on the patio, and enjoyed Mike Butterfield and band. Food was very tasty and service from Samantha and coworkers was friendly and professional. Sadly, our patio experience was marred by an excessively loud and gyrating guest from Placitas. You could even hear her cackling and yelling in the dining areas inside. I am happy to see other people having a good time, but this woman went too far in that her noise and behaviors impinged on others who just weren’t “into” her. Wish management would have intervened with her. We will be back, crossing our fingers that the woman won’t be there at same time. Thanks, compliments to the chef!
I'm sorry to hear your evening with us was not as enjoyable as you hoped. Our apologies that steps weren't taken to quell the situation. I have forwarded your comments to management for staff training, to become a learning experience. Thank you so much for the nice comments on Samantha and the staff, as well as Chef and his culinary team. We appreciate your willingness to share valuable feedback and hope to see you again soon.
We had been to the Prairie Star a number of times on Friday nights for the music, drinks and dancing. The appetizers were usually good but always overpriced. Nevertheless this was OK because of the view of the Sandias which is always spectacular and special.
This time we tried dinner inside. The waitress was pleasant enough but clearly untrained and left a number of dirty dinner plates un bussed out the table all though the meal and during dessert. The ordered antipasto board was quite mediocre. I ordered the lamb ribs which were mostly uncooked. Fortunately I like my meat rare but this was a bit too raw. Interestingly I overheard a gentleman at the next table complaining that his meat was way over cooked? What is going on in the kitchen? This whole experience was disappointing and we will henceforth stick to the patio and the view.
We are disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your dining experience. I have forwarded your valuable comments to management and the chef. We appreciate you sharing and will use the feedback to improve.
Wonderful location, with beautiful views. Innovative Chef with a rotating seasonal menu. Beautiful flavor balance. Good service, a bit slow but more than made up for it by acknowledging it. I will definitely be back and recommend to my friends and family as a nice escape near the city.
Thank you so much for the lovely review! We are pleased to hear you had an enjoyable evening with us. On behalf of the staff and management, we appreciate your comments and hope you will be back soon!
Too many Nat’s flying around. Steak was undercooked. Server did not care about the nat’s.
Thank you for submitting your feedback. We would have gladly replaced your steak if we had known. I have shared your review with management & asked that it be reviewed with staff. I was told the issue occurred because the doors to the patio were opened a lot due to the patio entertainment--it is not a normal problem. We don't think the server meant to seem indifferent, there just wasn't an easy solution with the dining room occupied. I hope you will consider returning!
Delicious trout dinner!
We appreciate the five star rating and are so gratified to hear you loved your dinner! Please come back soon, Chef Myles has a new trout entree on the new summer menu!
The grilled Idaho trout from the Wine and Dine menu was wonderful. The meaty trout was beautifully presented crispy side up atop a nicely flavored quinoa pilaf that was more like a quinoa tabouleh. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu, helpful and attentive. The views are gorgeous from the inside looking out beyond the patio to the Santa Ana golf course and mountains beyond.
Thank you so much for the five stars and the really nice comments. We are so pleased you enjoyed your evening with us and hope to see you again soon.
We have lived in NM for six years now. This was our first visit and it has instantly become our favorite restaurant. Food, service, wait staff, view all outstanding!
Thank you so much for the five stars and the kind comments! We are so grateful you found us, and hope to see you again soon!
Always a delightful place for both food and setting/ambiance. The Wednesday night "Dining for Two" prix fixe is an astoundingly good value include appetizer, phenomenal entree choices, and desert AND a good bottle of wine (selected by staff) from the Prairie Star's wine list.
I want to sincerely thank you for dining with us and leaving a five star rating. So glad to hear you are one of our Wednesday Wine & Dine fans! Please know we appreciate your kind comments and hope you will dine with us again soon!
We had the Wednesday Night special which included the halibut, beef, asparagus soup, caprese salad and parfait. The halibut was the driest fish I have ever had (including from a Long John Silvers that was going out of business) but the flavors of the sauce and other additions were very good - the risotto was sub par; the beef was considerably below par (very, very tough) so my wife literally asked for a doggie bag for her beef entre. the soup and caprese had very good flavor and textures - the highlight of the meal. the dessert wasn't - maybe have been days old. I doubt we will return to the PS restaurant.
We were so disappointed to hear of your evening and hope you will respond to our private message so the manager or chef can reach out to you. We do appreciate your kind mention of Zachary and the staff, and pleased that aspect of your visit was enjoyable. We hope you will consider dining at Prairie Star again sometime.
The cut of prime rib was full of fat snd difficult to cut. Must have been an end cut. Three of us at the table had prime rib and sll thrss were disappointed.
A sincere thank you for taking time to leave your valuable comments Howard. We are of course disappointed that your party did not enjoy their dinners. I have shared your feedback with Chef Myles and the manager. Please know that we appreciate your patronage and hope you will dine with us again soon.
We had the most incredible dinner Tuesday night at Prairie Star! It was a birthday celebration so we all had a first and main course and then a dessert to share plus the complimentary birthday dessert. We all had different choices so were able to taste from each other. I believe that in all our years (25) of dining out in Albuquerque this was the best meal, start to finish, that we have ever had! Each dish was perfectly prepared, beautifully presented and the servings were very generous. Then as an added bonus, Tuesday is half price on wine! The servers were charming and did an excellent job. There is something for everyone on the menu so don't wait for a special occasion to treat yourself to a delightful evening at Prairie Star!!
Wow Joycita! We're blushing! I have shared your thoughtful comments with Chef and the staff. We are so honored you chose Prairie Star for your special celebration, and so gratified to hear how much your party enjoyed the evening. We hope you can return soon!
Great prime rib, ambiance, and a quiet relaxing trip. Waiters were great and fun and Baked Brie was excellent.
Thank you so much for the kind comments and the five star rating! So glad you enjoyed your prime rib and a special thanks for letting us know the service staff made your visit more enjoyable. We hope to see you again soon!
This time we went on Wednesday Wine and Dine night. Always a wonderful and relaxing special time, with great service all around! Host/Maitre D' said, "let me see if I still have a table by the window (not a special request we'd made!)" and we were seated wonderfully overlooking the golf course, BEAUTIFUL views. Always quiet and peaceful. All staff worked as a team. Meal was tasty; my husband felt the beef was scarce in his dish. Scallops were perfect. Although there were wine "upgrades" available, we picked the red that was offered as standard choice and it was....substandard; extremely dry and hard to drink. Overall, a delightful special evening as usual!
Thank you so much for taking time to share your experience and thoughtful comments with us. I'm grateful to hear our staff made your visit so enjoyable. We appreciate you!
One of our go-to places. Both of our meals were so-so. Very good sides and dessert, unremarkable entrees. We were there unexpectedly on a special menu offering evening - perhaps if we had ordered from the regular menu ...
I sincerely thank you for dining with us and leaving a four star rating. I'm sad to hear you weren't completely happy with your dinners, and thank you for sharing with us. Please know we appreciate your patronage and hope you will dine with us again soon.
Excellent value and dining experience. Will definitely go back.
A sincere thank you for dining with us and leaving a five star rating. We appreciate you and your kind comments!
Beautiful location, with a great view across the bosque to the Sandias. I took my wife for a Mother’s Day brunch. The food was delicious, beautifully prepared, and the service was attentive, without being overbearing. We were in a little room with a larger party, who were a bit loud, and made our conversation difficult at times. At least we were spared the cattle car experience of most restaurants on Mother’s Day. I would certainly go again, but might revert to our rule of avoiding the Mother’s Day crush and pick a quieter day.
Ours thanks for choosing Prairie Star for your Mother's Day celebration! We appreciate the kind comments and the five star rating. Please visit again soon!
Great service, food, and ambiance! Celebrated an anniversary, received a free glass of champagne and dessert! A nice quiet place to go to hear each other talk! Top knotch and high class.
On behalf of the staff and management, thank you for choosing Prairie Star for your special occasion... and Happy Anniversary! We are grateful for the five star rating and appreciate you!
The wine dinners are reasonable in price. However, the last two times we came to the wine dinners, the food was not as good as it used to be. The salad was tasteless this time and the entree was okay, but not great. The quality of the food at Prairie Star is not as good as it used to be, which is unfortunate. It is one of our favorites because of the location and the ambience.
We thank you for dining with us and for the four star rating. I am sorry to hear you have not enjoyed your recent visits. I have shared your comments with Chef Myles and management, as we always strive to improve. We appreciate your patronage and willingness to share thoughtful comments.
Food and service were fantastic. My only complaint was that the menu was a bit too exotic for me — just wanted a good steak and it was not on the menu
We want to sincerely thank you for dining with us and for the four star rating. Concerning the steak, Chef is unveiling his new seasonal menu later this week and I saw that he added a tenderloin and a grilled prime New York Strip, so you should have more choices if you give us another try. That menu should be published by the weekend. We appreciate you!
Beautiful evening, creative and well prepared food, attentive service, and the chef even came up with a sugar free desert for our birthday celebrant. The predinner drinks were served in a beautiful setting but the drinks themselves were not very good. Could do with a more imaginative mixologist. But on the otherhand it didn't stop us from drinking them. lol
We want to thank you for dining with us Judy- and for taking time to leave your thoughtful comments. We appreciate you and hope you will be back soon.
We very much enjoy going to the Wednesday night Wine & Dine at Prairie Star restaurant. We started with cheese & broccolini soup which was very flavourful. We then each had the beef dish with cheese gnocchi and broccolini and a lovely sauce, all very good. The bottle of red wine included in the price was very nice as was the Key Lime Pie for dessert. Service was top notch, we recommend this restaurant!
I want to sincerely thank you for dining with us and for the five star rating. So glad you enjoyed your evening! We appreciate you!
We’ve been going to Prarie Star for years and this was my first disappointing visit. The quality of the food just wasn’t the same. The calimari was chewy. I had been looking forward to the duck and was very disappointed. The skin wasn’t rendered and the meat was over cooked and dry. The sweet potato soufflé was burnt on top and hard as a rock. My husband’s pheasant was better but also over cooked. For the price I expect perfection. Not rushing back anytime soon.
We appreciate you taking time to leave a review and your feedback. We are certainly disappointed you did not enjoy dinner. Your comments have been shared with the Chef and he will review with his staff. If you would like to discuss further with the manager, please contact us per the email address we left in the private message.
I'm usually not a big trout person but the trout meal that I had last Wednesday was out of this world! Cooked to perfection on a bed of orzo and veggies. The Merlot was excellent with this dish too. The chocolate orange baklava was yummy and crunchy - wish I had a scoop of vanilla ice cream added as a foil to the crispy baklava. My partners coffee crusted steak was excellent too!
We are gratified to learn you thoroughly enjoyed your dinner! FYI-- we do have vanilla bean ice cream, so you are welcome to add a scoop if you'd like! Thank you so much for taking time to rate Prairie Star and leave your valuable feedback. We appreciate you!
