    We were a party of 11 friends and former colleagues in search of an excellent Christmas lunch. We had a 3 course lunch with coffee and mince pies for £25. The menu was creative and there was a choice of turkey, beef or a vegetarian dish for the main course. The food was very tasty with generous portions. The beef was tender, cooked to medium. We provided the kitchen with our menu requirements in advance resulting in excellent service. The food arrived hot (uncommon for larger parties) and any additional requests were dealt with quickly by the front-line staff. Congratulations to the chef and his team. The restaurant had been seasonally decorated. The trendy warehouse / French cafe style setting was different and we had a great time. We would certainly book the Powder & Magazine again. The only detraction was the length of time taken to get a booking confirmation by email. I would suggest by-passing the system and phoning directly.

    Last night I took my husband here for his birthday after hearing some positive things, we arrived and there were only 3 occupied tables, the staff behind the bar took a while to notice us and the two girls in their aprons In front didn’t even acknowledge us. Bad start I thought. We then had to wait to be offered drinks and we were offered water first before returning to take a drinks order. We then had our meal arrive which was nice food, well cooked. But we weren’t asked if everything was ok, or if we wanted another drink, I was so disappointed with the service we didn’t stay for to wait to be offered the desert menu. I did give my feedback and the young waiter removed our drinks from the bill, but for me the disappointment was already there and what was going to be an evening out ended up being an hour and a half tops for 1 main meal and 1 drink (which we didn’t even finish) 😔 I also asked to speak with the manager but wasn’t given that option as he seemed to want to avoid my comments.

    I booked a table for 4 guests and stated it was one person's birthday on the online booking. Starters were ordered but only 3 presented, leaving our birthday person without a starter. Staff were alerted to this and her starter was delivered. We also observed the Bellinis ordered were not sparkling at all but flat. My wife ordered steak which she enjoyed but unfortunately our birthday guest's steak was very tough & chewy which could not be eaten. My wife tried the steak just to make sure our guest was not over critical but also found it inedible. Eventually we were able to alert staff, he apologised and removed the dish saying it would be taken off the bill. However, there was no indication if they were going to replace the meal, so we had three people eating their main course whilst our guest looked on. Just as we had all finished, another meal was brought out to our guest which was a surprise to us as no one indicated that another meal would be provided. By this time, our guest was already upset and had lost her appetite. As a positive, the venue is stylish and generally the food is good. However, the vegetarian portion was small and the service lacking.

    Who is Powder and Magazine trying to attract? Feel like somewhere you'd find in East London - has that kind of industrial cool feel (we've just moved here, and liked the look of it for that reason). However if we're the target market, then powder and Magazine needs to up its game (actually I think it needs to up its game anyway)...came here for brunch...the waiting staff were incredibly slow and hard to get hold of, despite only 2 tables being occupied, the food was average at best, they literally laughed out loud when my boyfriend asked for coffee with a milk substitute (he is lactose intolerant, it's not a fad!) and didn't even bother to suggest an alternative drink (herbal tea, maybe? Glass of orange juice?), the music was really loud and cheesy. Dinner a few weeks earlier was better, though portion sizes were tiny and the staffing situation was still bizarre....shame, as the setting is gorgeous. Hasn't quite come together in the execution yet.

    This was our first visit and we will be going back. We had the set menu which was good value for money but my husband felt he would have liked a bigger selection to choose from on the starters. The food was excellent, the staff were very busy but the lovely waitress who served us made us feel welcome. Somewhere to go for a special occasion for sure. Overall great evening out.

    Over an hour for starters to arrive. Mainly supermarket fare out of plastic packaging and re-arranged on bread boards. Almost £5 for a half of bottled lager, ordinary wine. Main course ordinary, one of the party was left out ‘forgot, sorry’. Hastily prepared plate arrived several minutes after everything else. It was taken off the bill Six or seven triple cooked chips, a spoon of coleslaw and a burger with a slice of tomato, two circular slices of red onion and two pieces of lettuce. There appeared to be four staff on duty, 2 in the kitchen, 2 serving for about 40 covers. 10% service charge was difficult to swallow. London prices should deliver London standards Place has potential, needs a lot of attention, and fast.

    Great food and lovely atmosphere. We will definitely be back and recommend to our friends. The Sunday roast was delicious and a very good size portion.

    Was very disappointed in the food small amount for value. Steak was over cooked twice, chips was still raw in the middle . Local pubs offer better meals and value for money. Found staff were great very responsive.
