We had an amazing anniversary dinner. Service was exceptional. Food was out of this world. Reminded me a lot of restaurants I. France.
Date: May 2021: Authentic French food/cousine at realistic prices and generous serving sizes. Not one mouthful was anything less than amazing. Highlights are blue fish pate, escargot, duck breast and scallops baked is a wondrous combination of sour cream and the smokiness of bacon. And last, but certainly not least, is the Creme Brulee, which is so silky and just sweet enough to make you want it to last forever. The basement dinning room is cozy, charming, intimate and very comfortable. The service is very attentive without being interruptive and the owner conveyed a warm welcome by visiting each table briefly. We will be back many times. Truly a most beautiful dinning experience!
We had w wonderful dinner. The food was excellent and service was very good. Can’t wait to go back!
In this new world, as we hopefully near the end of the pandemic - I realized this past Saturday night that I could not have been in a safer restaurant. As I went to open the door to introduce a friend to a spectacular restaurant I've been patronizing for decades, I saw it... anti-microbial tape on the door. I wasn't even in the restaurant, and Bob Burke had thoughtfully began protecting his guests with some pricey, and fancy tape to make us safe. Thanks Bob, for taking restaurant safety to the next highest level!
The service.... as always ... friendly and familiar.
The food... was spectacular. We began with the mushroom soup, accompanied with the warm French bread, and salad... wonderful. Our entrees were Boeuf Bourguignon and Coquille St. Jacques, and we finished with Crème Brulee. Everything was perfect.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the take home portion of my entrée reheated beautifully. I got to revisit the perfect taste of the prior evening in my lunch!!!
When we choose to patronize a restaurant, we are supporting a cause. I am comfortable saying that Pot au Feu is the safest restaurant in Rhode Island, and the food is spectacular.
My guest, who is new to RI, and has listened to me rave about "The Pot" for months during the lockdown... was very impressed.
Amazing as always!
It was truly a special night. The food was delicious and the service was attentive and excellent. I will be back for sure!!
The attention to detail is impeccable. Bob Burke has a gem with this restaurant and ensures that each guest feels at home.
I was disappointed. The bouillabaisse wasn't as savory as I've had in other places. I really didn't care for the vegetable tartine and I am a big lover of pate's generally. Our waitress was attentive and I/we enjoyed the interaction with the owner (?) or manager. But, after reading the history, and going there for the first time on a special birthday meal, I really thought it did not live up to the reviews.
Enjoyed our new find in Providence. Excellent ambiance, friendly staff, and delicious food. Overall, had a great experience and highly recommend the restaurant. Will definitely go back.
Everyone has an off night and unfortunately the night that we were at this restaurant, it was very off. This restaurant had come highly recommended so we were shocked by the low level of food and service. The place is beautiful and very romantic but the food is dreadful except for the bread. The Cote du Rhone wine was also very good. This was unfortunately the worst French restaurant I have ever been to and I have been to many. It was as if the chef was angry about having to be in the kitchen that night. The "salad" consisted of a few pieces of mesclun thrown onto a little flat plate (I do this better at home). The ratatouille that was served alongside my fish was tasteless and the baked potato was cold and hard. The fish was dreadful. If you go to this restaurant, the mushroom soup was OK, the ambience is fantastic, but be very aware that beyond that you are forewarned.
Lots of food for the price! I would go back for the crepes!
First time dining in a restaurant since March 2020! Felt safe and great!
Everything was excellent from start to finish. It was a wonderful dining experience!
Classiest restaurant in Providence with a caring owner, caring staff, and great food!
Excellent experience, great food, ambience and service. Highly recommend.
Wonderful as always. Outstanding food and outstanding service!
Absolutely fabulous! It was good to come back to one of my favorite restaurants!
Anyone who enjoys the uniqueness and exquisite flavor of fine French cuisine will find no better example in Rhode Island than locally-owned and operated Pot au Feu. For any special occasion, make this your first choice.
Always great food and ambience. the owner walks around and makes conversation. We felt like we were dining in a home away from home (with better food)
This is my favorite restaurant. I love all of the extra steps made to make the restaurant covid safe but still maintain it's ambience. They managed to keep the Parisian feel while also knowing that he has taken every step possible to keep the restaurant safe while being indoors. I can't wait to go back!
I love the old brick walls and the way they did the dividers added more ambience to the dining experience. The meal, the waitress and everything was exacly why we go there for special occasions.....Great job!!!
The food was excellent, Cooked to perfection, right down to the veggies.
We were very impressed with the level of COVID precautions taken by this fine restaurant, which were above and beyond any restaurant we’ve ever seen. The cuisine was superb as always. The service, impeccable. Don’t leave without ordering the Creme Brûlée for dessert (you’ll never find any better).
Great food and lovely decor. Time and love went into the updates for COVID making the dining experience not only safe but enjoyable too. The separation of tables was done in a way to enhance the decor not just to comply with regulations. The food was top notch with wonderful flavors. The staff where friendly and did not rush you out.
An established French Bistro with very Americanized French fare...
Amazing & Fantastic Mushroom soup...
Steak Frits - a Bistro standby - Steak was overcooked & Frits, tasted like McDonalds - echh !
It’s was another delicious meal to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The waitress provided excellent service, with lots of good recommendations. The bread is outstanding, the dinners were exceptional, the wine choice was great.
Can’t go wrong dining at Pot Au Feu!
Thanks again Bob for a wonderful evening out.
Unique bistro, food and service are always outstanding, romantic ambiance- a true favorite!
An exceptional dining experience. The absolute best creme brulee you will have in your life; spectacular onion soup; bread so good you can make a meal of it! Cozy and historic, this is the oldest french bistro in the country. Well worth a visit, and you will likely be attended by the owner himself. High level, personalized service.
We started our dinner with a drink. My wife selected a Beaujolais by the glass from the wine list and I had an excellent Beefeater martini of two. The wine list is wonderful whether bottle or glass. I think we’ll split a bottle of Bordeaux next time.
We always look forward to the warm French bread and salad made fresh with delicate greens and homemade mustard dressing. The raspberry dressing is also excellent. Our preference is the mustard.
Since we were eating an early dinner my wife decided on the Soupe a l'Oignon (best in New England) as an entree over the Terrine de Champagne with Beef and Mushroom crepes which she will have next time I’m sure because it’s her favorite dinner.
I had the Bouillabaisse Marseillaise which has a mildly saffron spiced tomato broth that is excellent to the last drop. It came with a piece of white fish, two pieces of salmon, a small octopus, mussels, clams, shrimp and scallops. Boy was it huge, I’m glad I opted not to have an appetizer too. I think I will have the Poutine next time. That way I’ll have room for the Soupe a l'Oignon.
We finished our meal with coffee, and we split a Pot de Chocolat with fresh whipped cream and a mint leave, my personal favorite. It’s hard to choose between it and the crème brulee.
Felt very safe.
First time dining out in over a year and we selected Pot au Feu because they made so many recommended safety changes for a positive dining experience. The food, staff, and overall experience were amazing. We felt confident as they are following all of the safety protocols plus additional mitigation steps have been implemented.
Owner and server was fabulous!!
Perhaps off night in kitchen. Escargots lacked garlic flavor. Filet ok. Crepe very cold and lacking flavor. House took them off bill. Very underwhelming experience.
Pot au Feu continues to be our favorite French restaurant
Food authentic and well presented. Distancing adjustments effective and elegant. Service impeccable.
Always a stellar meal at the Pot. Best restaurant in Providence!
We went to Pot au Feu on Saturday and we had a very nice time. Bob has broken up his tables so there is a division with dividers up. Food was excellent as always. My husband and I try to get in around Valentines to have our French food! I am hoping that more people will come and support Pot au Feu as a beautiful example of a nice restaurant in Providence, RI.
excellent service was great waitress was very knowledgeable good personality all the meals were delicous
We enjoyed the French ambiance and decor. The food was uniquely delicious.
Very nice historical presentation
