A favorite of Julia Child - Pot au Feu Bistro is so much more than a restaurant... Established in 1972, our cozy Bistro is the oldest French Bistro in America. Pot au Feu Bistro kicked off the Providence Restaurant Renaissance being the first to offer something other than “steak, spaghetti and chow mien”.
Located in the Historic Downtown we are just minutes from all the hotels and convention center.

We had a delightful experience at Pot au Feu. It felt like we were in a romantic little restaurant in France. We were greeted warmly by staff and showed to our cozy table. Drinks were brought promptly-I highly recommend the Les Fleurs. I heard the people at the next table commenting on how perfect their Old Fashioneds were. We were brought warm bread which was delicious. Our appetizer was the Pate de Maison-chicken liver mousse made with brandy and served with toasts. I had Coquilles St. Jacques and my husband had the Poutine with tenderloin and Foie gras. Dessert was Pots du Chocolate and Citron Mousse. It was not an inexpensive meal but the quality and flavors are well worth it. It’s a lovely place for authentic country French cooking. We will be repeat customers.

As usual, the Pot did not disappoint. Whether I stop in for a drink and a light dinner after getting off the train or celebrating an event, it’s my go to place. The food, the staff and the ambiance coming together for a memorable evening. Thank you!!

Pot Au Feu is a reliable standout in Providence. The owner cares so much about every detail and I agree with previous reviews that say the food is as good as you will find in Paris (if not better in some cases!). This is a great place for a romantic duo or a family celebration. The pate trio was so delicious and the chicken portion huge. Steak frites was well spiced and the sauce amazing. The service was exceptional. Looking forward to going back.

Pretty disappointed. Although my beef bourguignon was good, the wait staff tried to take it away from me 4 times while I was still eating!!! The bread was some store bought crap I could get anywhere. The mushroom pate was meh. All this at premium prices. I think this places days are done. Save your money Go elsewhere

Pot au Feu is a true gem and a rare find now-a-days. The menu visits French classics with a providence touch and every dish really is made with love that shows through. The bread may be amongst the very best I have ever had anywhere and everything is honestly an example of how it can and should be done.

We went for the first time last night after years of hearing how great it is. It did not disappoint! Service is fantastic and the food is outstanding! We enjoyed the Escargot, foi gras, mushroom pate, beef Bourignon, pot du chocolate and creme brûlée. It’s the best French food outside of France. The ambiance feels like you stepped into an old building in Paris.

We have been coming here for over 30 years and it is still one of our favorite restaurants in Providence! Quaint bistro atmosphere and impeccable service. Never disappoints!
