Pot au Feu Bistro
Located in the Historic Downtown we are just minutes from all the hotels and convention center.
Delicious meal and jovial owner. I also enjoyed the 17 year old server (Beth?)'s humor. Unexpected and thoroughly entertaining.
The food was outstanding. We just wish the bread and condiments arrived at the beginning of dinner and we didn't have to remind our server half way through the meal. Will definitely return on a less busy night, and I have shared the positive experience with my colleagues.
We love this new find for us. It’s difficult to find good French restaurants at a good value but we’ve finally found one. Many French spots also get too formal and stuffy but Pot au Feu is an approachable bistro for ever day dining or a date night. Will be back!
Fun place for good food and drinks.
Just like France, very enjoyable. Can’t wait to come back
You must be prepared for not only traditional French food, but the traditional, very slow-paced French dining experience. Our party of four seniors found it a bit interminable, despite the excellent food, sitting on uncomfortable chairs. Consequently, we decided to skip ordering dessert. We can highly recommend the schrod, the salmon, and if you enjoy an extremely rich version of Coquilles St. Jacques (which my stomach didn't) then that as well. Wines by the glass are a bit limited so we were forced to order a bottle of the Decoy Meritage which was pleasant and drinkable.
Pot au Feu is our go to place in the city. We have celebrated many happy occasions here and are never disappointed. This visit was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and it was perfect as usual.
New choices on the menu will keep us coming back for many more years.
This restaurant was empty except for one other couple
Restaurant is exactly what you want in a French Bistro : ambiance service, excellent food, marvelous deserts, and French music playing in the background. Have always had a fantastic experience at this place. I love that one is not rushed...one can linger w/ wine while reviewing the menu, can take as long as one wants reading & re-reading menu because selection is difficult to make, one can relax and linger after eating over a brandy.
Recommend this place
This is easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I highly recommend the wild mushroom soup—not only is it absolutely divine, but the chef’s background as Rhode Island’s sole certified wild mushroom hunter adds another layer to the dish. The citron mousse was also very delicious and fluffy in texture.
Excellent food and atmosphere. It’s like being in Paris. We will eat here again.
We’ve gone to this restaurant for at least 30 years and We still get excited about the food. Wonderful wine selection. Onion soup is the best I’ve ever experienced. Salads are fresh and dressings are homemade. The poutine with truffle oil is savoy. My wife’s champignon quiche was cooked to Perfection. We always share the pot au chocolat for desert. Very decadent. Ask for Ruth. An amazing waitress with impeccable timing.
The food was good. I got the Cassoulet du Maison. Nice baked clay plate with sausage. The bread came very very late....not with the salad, not with the entree, but like 5 min after my entree was served. There were 2 young helpers that were inexperienced, that made service to be a bit lacking.
The food and service was excellent. I will definitely go there again!
Great French bistro in the heart of providence. We ordered from the pre-theatre menu which included three courses. The pate appetizer and desert sampler were especially good and our entrees wonderfully prepared.
Would return again!
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food, gracious owner and staff. My husband and I went to Paris for our honeymoon and our evening was very reminiscent of that romantic city.
The food and wine selection is outstanding! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a tasty meal in a very pleasant environment.
We picked the perfect spot for a "before theater" dinner. Restaurant was as good as remembered - a little piece of bistro France. Food and service very good and seating in a quiet corner, just as requested - perfect. We'll be back!
The wait staff was great and the food very good. We loved our experience.
This was my first visit to Pot au Feu, but it will not be my last! I had made a reservation for out-of-town visitors and we all had wonderful dishes - Coquille St. Jacques; crepe du jour avec champignons, soup a l'ognon, champignons avec cous-cous. The staff were very friendly and nice and the bartender made delicious cocktails. The atmosphere was cozy & inviting and it was also very clean.
We had the Beef Bourguignon and it was very salty and completely ruined the dish. The desserts were not that great. I don't think I will be back.
This was our favorite restaurant when we lived in Rhode Island 20 years ago -- and it was just as good when we returned for a visit this week. Wonderful food, terrific service in a very pretty bistro.
Excellent food and atmosphere. True French.
My husband and I enjoyed our pre-theater dinner at Pot au Feu Bistro. There is something very comforting about the restaurant, both because of its own character and also knowing that Julia Child was very fond of it. We very much enjoyed sharing the wild mushroom paté as a starter and then both chose the tasty salmon entrée accompanied by baked sweet potato and ratatouille. It was a nice way to begin our evening before walking the moderate distance to PPAC to see Hamilton. We also parked nearby the restaurant so avoided the congestion near the theater along with the higher prices for parking. It is a good restaurant for a special occasion dinner, such as pre-theater, or just a lovely dinner out. We both highly recommend it.
This was our first visit to Pot au Feu. It will not be out last!!! We had a drink at the bar before we had dinner. The bartenders was a joy. Food and service were wonderful. Pot would be a great spot for a special occasion
Excellent ambiance. Pate was delicious. Wine selection was great.
Enjoyed the experience.
The restaurant was very accommodating as due to traffic we were a little later than expected and wanted to sit at the bar and enjoy a couple of drinks before going to our table and having our meal. The bartender was very pleasant as was our waitress. Our meal was outstanding, we both opted to start with the Escargot a la Bourguignonne which were delicious and then started off with a salad with goat cheese, then we both had the Filet Mignon aux Champignons cooked to a perfect medium rare. Will definitely return.
We had Hamilton tickets that night and arrived from Boston later than we would have liked. Nevertheless, we have a fabulous prix fix meal and thoroughly enjoyed every course and never felt rushed. We will be back!
True French cuisine and great American service.
The food was delicious! We were a little disappointed the bread that was brought to our table was not a traditional French baguette: it looked and tasted like those found in most grocery stores. Also, we would suggest providing a smaller spoon for the dessert: the one we were given was too large and didn't get to the bottom of the small glass. A great experience overall, though, and we'll certainly be back!
We went for the restaurant weeks menu and for our anniversary. The food was very good, but a little over salted. Service was very good. Value for the price was good for restaurant weeks. I had never been before and wanted to try it. I probably won't be back.
Nice bistro that has been there for almost 50 years.
The owner spoke to us and was very engaging
food and service was just not as good as expected or rated. Over priced and over rated. I've had very good French food, and sorry to say was very disappointed in our experience.
Because the street was blocked off Saturday night for a concert, we were forced to park in a lot two blocks away, which was difficult for a 79 and an 83 year old to walk. We should have been told about this in advance.
Consistent menu selections. Five dinners and desserts were spectacular.
It was restaurant week so the price was excellent and the food choices were ones you don't get anywhere else.
Great anniversary dinner ! Very cozy and romantic, great food and prompt service from friendly young servers.
Perfect in every way. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, and very helpful. The food was outstanding: mushroom soup, a sampler of pates, quiche and crepes that featured mushrooms. Well worth the price. We don’t get to Providence very often, and this was a memorable meal for a special occasion.
Classic French fare in a cozy environment. We had the restaurant to ourselves on a Thursday night! Ruth's service was impeccable. Beef bourguignon and lamb shank didn't need a knife. Trio of pate and the escargot we're delicious.
