Post 390 puts a contemporary twist on seasonally inspired dishes that reflect Executive Chef Deutmeyer's passion for fresh ingredients and unforgettable flavors. On the first floor is the Tavern: a casual but sophisticated menu and atmosphere, with a 25-seat bar and high top and banquette seating area, warmed by a beautiful four-sided fireplace. A massive wrought iron staircase connects the energy of the first floor with the Dining Room on the second floor.
Here, guests can have a more refined dining experience, and enjoy our large, open kitchen, wine displays, two private dining rooms, additional fireside dining and views of landmarks like Copley Place, Trinity Church and the Hancock Tower.
Located in the Clarendon Building, on the corner of Clarendon and Stuart Streets at the site of the former Back Bay Post Office Annex, Post 390 is perfectly situated within walking distance of the South End and Back Bay neighborhoods.

Our group of 10 was fairly well served. The request for separate checks was handled quite ably. With a few exceptions, the food was very good to excellent. There was a fixed price 3-course, beer based dinner option - 2 starters, 2 entrees and 2 desserts - for $52. Substitution for a dessert on the regular menu did not cost much more. My starter was not very good. However, my main dish - monk fish - and dessert from the regular menu - banana cream pie - were excellent. In the main dining, allowing many of our group members to order from the tavern menu was most convenient and appreciated.

Had to send my wife's Bloody Mary back.....too spicy. Likely not the specialty of the house.

Oysters were terrific and I had one of the best steaks I have enjoyed in a very long time.

Be very careful. Both my friend and I got seriously overcharged on our credit cards. A $69 bill when through as $109!! Having a lot of trouble getting them to reverse the charge!!!

This was our third visit to Post 390, and it didn't disappoint. This is really my kind of restaurant: relaxed but attentive service, very attractive but not stuffy ambiance, and excellent food that is adventurous but not weird for the sake of being weird. The ingredients and flavors are sometimes unusual but they always work together. I occasionally want familiar cuisine when I dine out, but more often I want a meal that suggests new ways of preparing familiar ingredients, or new combinations. This restaurant does a nice job of gently pushing the limits. BTW, the wine list is very good and the beer list especially so.

Post 390 is a frequent go-to place for us with special friends. The entrees are always superb and worth the expense. On last night's dinner, we had the skirt steak farm-to-table "special" and the whole fish -- both beautifully done. The first courses were uneven, with a carrot salad at $16 a big disappointment, and our shared dessert -- "a sticky toffee pudding " -- actually a round of gingerbread topped by whipped cream -- not what was billed on the menu! Service is always friendly and timed well. We keep coming back -- a great chef and fun menu choices.

Great environment, though quite noisy. Warm friendly staff, but not 100% attentive (remembering to freshen drinks, other mistakes). Had pear glazed pork; not a great cut (too much chewy sinew), tough, overdone. Had great salad before ('white' salad I think it was). Banana cream pie for desert was very good. Friend had a burger, asked for no onions, it was covered in onions and the fries are not that good--again for the price.

Nice menu, great environment, food quality and service doesn't equate with pricing.

The food was fabulous and the service was incredible. It was a very cold night and we were given the table nearest the fireplace. Terrific. My friend and I each had an appetizer, then asked to share an entrée, which was no problem. They actually split the dish so that we each received a beautifully plated meal. We paid our check but were deep in conversation and sat at the table for at least a half hour, but they never rushed us. They just kept filling our water glasses. Great place.

Pretty salt-forward food. Companions scallops good and especially the accompanying pilaf, though salty. Venison carpaccio came with over salted chips. My organic chicken breast turned to chicken dust in the mouth-both salty and dry. Greens on plate so salty as to be bitter. Told very nice server who offered to get manager. We told her it was OK, just wanted to provide feedback. When we got bill she had taken my dish off anyhow. Left her nice tip as dish not her fault, appreciated her professionalism. Food needs to be evaluated—someone in kitchen has heavy hand with salt.

Quite underwhelming with both service and food. The venison tartare was extremely bland, and no one came to ask how the food was. That being said, the bread they serve is excellent. In the past I enjoyed coming here for the food and ambiance, but it feels like everything is slowly slipping. Hoping it was just fluke, but on a quiet weekday night with hardly anyone else in the restaurant, would have hoped things were a bit more polished.

Went here at the recommendation of a friend. Highly overpriced for average food. But a very diverse menu of interesting combinations. Had the Hellenic burger because I couldn't find something hearty for under 30$ an entree.

We asked to move to a table that was not in the aisle and were told we could not because it was reserved. The table and others around us sat empty through out our meal. When we left they were still empty. The server was not that friendly.

Service was a mess. Glass of wine instead of a bottle to table in front of us, food too salty at table next to us. Salad came then Oysters even though oysters ordered way before. $14 cocktail average. Duck on plate cooked through, no pink, with a dry coquet and cooked berries 50% of plate empty for $32... wine list not given after asking several times and then stuck making decision when plates were being put down . $18 a glass for wine that should be no more than $8-10 else where. We have eaten around the world. This place is not worth its hyped up reviews. Ended a beautiful night out in frustration and dissatisfied.

We were there for an early dinner before the theatre. The restaurant was busy and the dining room is dimly lit. The private dining room was busy and everyone buzzing with holiday cheer. We only ordered entrees. The Berkshire pork and the chicken were delicious and the vegetables they came with were really good. It was so good we ordered dessert, which we never do. That ice cream sundae was fabulous! Highly recommended.

We went on a Sunday at 5:30 and it was pretty quiet in the restaurant. With that said, the service was slow, someone had clam chowder that was congealed, a burger that was supposed to be medium was very dry and someone's salmon on a salad was a bit too charred. We felt like it was leftovers on Sunday night - clean up the kitchen. I would normally recommend Post 390 to people, but not on a Sunday night.

The food was good - and surprisingly quiet for the number of people that were at the restaurant. The waiter was very attentive to my food allergy and the food was excellent. I had the full fish - red snapper. Sides were also really good.

On Saturday after Thanksgiving, I hosted a dinner for my children and my grandchildren for a total of ten people. The service was more than outstanding. We were welcomed warmly and there was a lovely table waiting. The wine and beer list is excellent. Orders were taken and served and the food was interesting and very good. One child ordered from the kid's menu and he was very happy. I did not order dessert and was disappointed when no one ordered the banana cream pie. The service staff overheard me and surprised the table with a piece of the banana cream pie which is their signature dessert. It was wonderful. Definitely worth a trip! Sound level is perfect.

The menu upstairs at Post 390 is eclectic, and does not offer a ton of choice. While we enjoyed our meal, we had a couple of let-downs. We both ordered the whole grilled fish (it was red snapper that night), which was delicious and very well prepared. However, at that price point ($42!) it would have been nice to have at least one vegetable or accompaniment, or to have the waiter offer to de-bone it for us. Also, we split a cheese course afterwards, and were served a corner/heel piece which was very small and nearly all crust! I was very disappointed. I have lived in France and am very familiar with how a cheese course should be served. Our waiter was very slow and too laid back. For special occasion prices, we were not feeling like it was a special occasion!

As always, an amazing experience at Post 390. On this occasion we went for Thanksgiving and the meal was fantastic! However we go here pretty regularly and for good reason! I can honestly say we’ve never had a bad meal/experience here. The dishes are creative but not over the top and always delicious. The staff is stellar, of late we have turned ourselves over to staff on wine selections and they have made the most spectacular recommendations. Definitely our “go to” place downtown for what is guaranteed to be a great meal and bottle of wine! Thank you Post 390!
