I loved this restaurant and will return to try the less formal downstairs. The food was great and innovative, and I had no complaints. However, the dining room was so dark that I could not see anything. Not a problem with ordering because we all used our cell phones to illuminate, but we aren't so old as that would suggest.
However, when the food came, the lighting was insufficient to make out the color of the foods I was putting in my mouth, and that actually diminished my enjoyment. My first taste had to be used to tell the color, (I was surprised how much I rely on visual cues to know what to expect,) and then I could savor the flavors. It looked as if some effort to plating was made, but it was wasted since it wasn't visible.
The restaurant was quite lively and noisy at 8, but quieted quickly from there. Our server was great, and the managerial staff appeared attentive. I didn't ask for the lights to be turned up because it's a big place and I figured maybe others liked it that way; we were a table of 5 ranging in age from 19 to 57. Nobody could see their food.

Overall we had a wonderful Valentine’s Day experience! There was a special menu, which we opted out of because we really wanted oysters and scallops, and, along with the dessert (chocolate turtle something) it was all spectacular! The food was pricy, but hey. The service was honestly some of the best I’ve had in a long time. I’m in the hospitality industry myself, so it’s hard not to notice even the tiniest things, and Post390 gets an A+! I wish I knew our server’s name; she was so kind and attentive and funny and informative. The sommelier that helped us choose a wine was also fabulous and soo knowledgeable! If you can figure out who I’m talking about, give them a bonus haha

The food was excellent, when it finally arrived 45-60 min after we ordered. The menu was not clear about a certain cocktail and when we asked the server for more information the cocktail tasted nothing like his description. The meal was perfect but the portions were small. We left and went to another bar in the area for dessert and more cocktails.

Wow, this meal was DELICIOUS. The Carmelized Cauliflower & Parmesan soup was the best soup I have ever had in my life. The Vegetable Ribbon Tart was also incredible. Boyfriend ordered off of the Valentine's Day prix-fixe menu, but that was just as great -- cacio e pepe, filet mignon, and a tres leches dessert. We were seated in a cozy booth next to a fireplace. Waitstaff was lovely. I cannot give this place enough praise!

Well, our server seemed nice but was pre-occupied. The rest of the staff on duty picked up the slack so overall we were taken care of.

The food was so so. We shared the sliced lamb dish and the lamb was quite fatty. The dessert did not live up to it’s description.

We dined at 5, very early for us, and it seemed like for the restaurant as well.

Next time we come to Post 390, we will definitely eat downstairs in the pub.

We are not customers who give up after a first visit. A very knowledgeable friend of ours recommended Post 390 and gave the food and wine very high marks. It may have just been a bad day or time.

We had a family get together and had an excellent table in a nice quiet area in the dining area near a fireplace. The setting could not have been better. The food was delicious. The vegetable dinner was really special. The fish and meat dishes were delicious. It was a little pricey but fairly typical for Boston. Highly recommended.

Our group of 10 was fairly well served. The request for separate checks was handled quite ably. With a few exceptions, the food was very good to excellent. There was a fixed price 3-course, beer based dinner option - 2 starters, 2 entrees and 2 desserts - for $52. Substitution for a dessert on the regular menu did not cost much more. My starter was not very good. However, my main dish - monk fish - and dessert from the regular menu - banana cream pie - were excellent. In the main dining, allowing many of our group members to order from the tavern menu was most convenient and appreciated.

Had to send my wife's Bloody Mary back.....too spicy. Likely not the specialty of the house.

Oysters were terrific and I had one of the best steaks I have enjoyed in a very long time.

This was our third visit to Post 390, and it didn't disappoint. This is really my kind of restaurant: relaxed but attentive service, very attractive but not stuffy ambiance, and excellent food that is adventurous but not weird for the sake of being weird. The ingredients and flavors are sometimes unusual but they always work together. I occasionally want familiar cuisine when I dine out, but more often I want a meal that suggests new ways of preparing familiar ingredients, or new combinations. This restaurant does a nice job of gently pushing the limits. BTW, the wine list is very good and the beer list especially so.

Post 390 is a frequent go-to place for us with special friends. The entrees are always superb and worth the expense. On last night's dinner, we had the skirt steak farm-to-table "special" and the whole fish -- both beautifully done. The first courses were uneven, with a carrot salad at $16 a big disappointment, and our shared dessert -- "a sticky toffee pudding " -- actually a round of gingerbread topped by whipped cream -- not what was billed on the menu! Service is always friendly and timed well. We keep coming back -- a great chef and fun menu choices.

Great environment, though quite noisy. Warm friendly staff, but not 100% attentive (remembering to freshen drinks, other mistakes). Had pear glazed pork; not a great cut (too much chewy sinew), tough, overdone. Had great salad before ('white' salad I think it was). Banana cream pie for desert was very good. Friend had a burger, asked for no onions, it was covered in onions and the fries are not that good--again for the price.

Nice menu, great environment, food quality and service doesn't equate with pricing.

The food was fabulous and the service was incredible. It was a very cold night and we were given the table nearest the fireplace. Terrific. My friend and I each had an appetizer, then asked to share an entrée, which was no problem. They actually split the dish so that we each received a beautifully plated meal. We paid our check but were deep in conversation and sat at the table for at least a half hour, but they never rushed us. They just kept filling our water glasses. Great place.

Pretty salt-forward food. Companions scallops good and especially the accompanying pilaf, though salty. Venison carpaccio came with over salted chips. My organic chicken breast turned to chicken dust in the mouth-both salty and dry. Greens on plate so salty as to be bitter. Told very nice server who offered to get manager. We told her it was OK, just wanted to provide feedback. When we got bill she had taken my dish off anyhow. Left her nice tip as dish not her fault, appreciated her professionalism. Food needs to be evaluated—someone in kitchen has heavy hand with salt.

Quite underwhelming with both service and food. The venison tartare was extremely bland, and no one came to ask how the food was. That being said, the bread they serve is excellent. In the past I enjoyed coming here for the food and ambiance, but it feels like everything is slowly slipping. Hoping it was just fluke, but on a quiet weekday night with hardly anyone else in the restaurant, would have hoped things were a bit more polished.

Went here at the recommendation of a friend. Highly overpriced for average food. But a very diverse menu of interesting combinations. Had the Hellenic burger because I couldn't find something hearty for under 30$ an entree.

Service was a mess. Glass of wine instead of a bottle to table in front of us, food too salty at table next to us. Salad came then Oysters even though oysters ordered way before. $14 cocktail average. Duck on plate cooked through, no pink, with a dry coquet and cooked berries 50% of plate empty for $32... wine list not given after asking several times and then stuck making decision when plates were being put down . $18 a glass for wine that should be no more than $8-10 else where. We have eaten around the world. This place is not worth its hyped up reviews. Ended a beautiful night out in frustration and dissatisfied.

We were there for an early dinner before the theatre. The restaurant was busy and the dining room is dimly lit. The private dining room was busy and everyone buzzing with holiday cheer. We only ordered entrees. The Berkshire pork and the chicken were delicious and the vegetables they came with were really good. It was so good we ordered dessert, which we never do. That ice cream sundae was fabulous! Highly recommended.
