The minute you walk into Poseidon, you’ll be swept by the fabulous view. You couldn’t be closer to the sand and the beach than sitting at Poseidon on their beautiful outdoor patio. With such a spectacular ocean view, you’ll experience breathtaking sunsets and during the right season even catch a glimpse of the whales migrating up or down the coast. The bar offers a large circular firepit, which is nice on those chilly fall or winter nights. Off to the side of the bar is a split level dining room offering every table a panoramic view of the beach and the ocean. For over 33 years, Poseidon has delighted both local San Diegans and the tourists that love the beach. An excellent menu, a favorite with all the locals is designed to cater to all appetites and pocketbooks.

Poseidon Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful ocean view. Chef’s pre fixe menu was excellent . We loved the scallops and the seared ahi. Those who love beets raved about the salad. It was a picture perfect presentation. I personally abhor beets. First time there, but would definitely go back.
We had a wonderful dinner with dear friends visiting San Diego from Colorado. Our server, Theresa was absolutely wonderful. Gracious, accommodating and thoughtful. Her attentiveness made the experience that much more pleasurable.
Poseidon's menu continues to show new and innovative recipes. Great improvements to the menu and the food preparation since we first visited the establishment when we moved to SoCal in 2012. We had the yellowfin tuna seared rare and it was truly "sashimi" grade. We all shared tastes and the crabcakes were quite yummy as were the diver scallops. Scallops were perfectly cooked to medium rare. Kudos to Poseidon for continually raising their bar.
A good place for dinner. A bit pricey but excellent food. Water glass could have been kept full. We stayed a long while talking following dinner because there were tables available and no one bothered us. The ocean is right out the window but an evening marine layer limited the view.
So I took a friend for her Birthday to Poseidon for dinner. The food was for the most part pretty good. She had the seafood linguini and I had a salad with chicken. The salad was good but the chicken was basically room temperature (or cool) and I had somehow expected it to be served hot. We did love the appetizer (pistachio crusted brie) and we also shared parmesan fries which were hot but not amazing. The service was pretty slow. I ran out of water twice and was kind of looking around for the server who was nowhere to be found. We did order off the dessert menu (I made my friend order dessert because it was her Birthday) and the server did put a candle it but then kind of dropped it off (no wishing her a happy Birthday at all throughout the evening). I guess the server just didn't really care to work hard that night (at least that is how it felt). The food was fine but I probably won't return because for the prices I would have expected better.
We came to Poseidon in the past for a dinner celebrating our 20th anniversary. That time, it was perfect: delicious, somewhat innovative food and beautiful view. This last time, we went for lunch with my parents and our vegetarian son. The service was good, and the view was still beautiful, of course, but the ambience was somewhat marred by repairs being done to the rainpipe. The menu is not at all vegetarian-friendly, so my son had to get tacos minus the meat. Two of five of us got tacos with deep fried fish, which can be great when fried what I guess you might call tempura style. This was more like fish-stick style--heavy and not flavorful. I believe the other two in our party had OK food. The food isn't expensive, but not cheap for what it is. Overall, a disappointing experience.
Lovely location, tasty food with sufficient variety for lunch. Server was fairly helpful, but disappointed that she/the restaurant ignored the note I had included in the online reservation that this was a special birthday for our friend. I had to remind them in front of the honored guest. Bus staff decidedly not friendly. Host at front desk also less than inspired, but valet was very gracious. So, staff is uneven in their service. Good thing they have the wonderful waterfront location to bring people back!
Breaking ocean waves 30' away, delicious entrees (especially the sea bass), mud pie for dessert -- what could be bad? Entrees are a bit expensive but that can be mitigated if you can find a 20% food discount coupon or by going on Tues. or Wed. when selected wines are half price.
Lots of view seating. I am not sure, but I believe the valet parking rule of "go directly to your car" after you have finished your dining/drinking experience, is new. I understand, but, as well, at least a bit of a walk on the beach would be nice after your meal even if at an extra hourly rate or maximum stay fee. The large, clearly posted sign of a possible tow and extra $20 charge felt inhospitable.
Oh the view! If it's your 1st time, ask for either the outside patio or an inside table overlooking the ocean. The sea bass is probably one of their signature dishes and is always a winner. They have a very good wine list, and the servers never try to rush you out of your table. This restaurant never disappoints.
I book a lot of first dates for my clients here as a matchmaker. I heard good things so I took my husband for lunch with an Open Table gift card. We sat right at the ledge overlooking the beach. The day was overcast and a little chilly but the restaurant had the outdoor heaters going so it was fine. We ordered the soup which was vegan and it was delicious but my husband likes his food piping hot and requested it to be so. When it came, it was just the temperature that it would normally be so that was disappointing for him. We both ordered salmon. Me the quinoa salad and he the bbq sandwich, without the bbq and a side of the chefs vegetables. We really liked the salmon a lot but I REALLLLLY loved my salad! Salmon, quinoa, watermelon, tomato, feta, fava beans and cooked down red peppers which I don't even like! It was really big too and for a fitness buff like myself, a perfect meal! Our server, Jessica I think, couldn't have been nicer or more cheery. Maybe I would be too getting to look at such scenery every day, but she was a doll! Overall a great experience from the valets to the hostesses who often don't get enough credit for setting the tone of the places that they represent. Will definitely go back!
We arrived with a reservation (and a couple of minutes early), having requested a table outside. The couple in front of us did not have a reservation, but were given the last available table outside while we were offered a table inside or a wait. We opted to wait. So, we headed to the bar and ordered a cocktail. A couple sat down next to us and ordered sparkling wine. The bartender corrected the man saying, “you mean champagne.” The man said no, he really just wanted sparkling wine and the bartender informed him that champagne was the same thing - just carbonated wine. I do think a bartender should know the difference between champagne and sparkling wine - and shouldn’t argue with customers, particularly when he is wrong. We were seated shortly thereafter and our server was very kind and friendly. We ordered a light lunch - Caesar salad, ahi tuna and clam chowder - it was all just fine. Nothing to get excited about. The tuna was fairly tasteless, the chowder was standard fare and the salad was what you would expect.
