There are not a lot of tables but the service was awful. They took an hour to bring my brothers drink. And did not make my sisters drink correctly. Appetizers and dinner came out super late.
Don't miss the Fish and Chips! They are not what you think. :)

This restaurant, the night my friend and I were there, was very poor in almost every way. Service and food were both inferior. The manager did apologize and comp one entre but the mediocrity of everything could not be comped. Obviously we will not return and surely wouldn't recommend the restaurant to anyone. The prices are way too high for ordinary food and small portions.
Staff was super friendly and very attentive. The only downside was that our food took 40 minutes to arrive and our food was over cooked, but the food was still tasty! I’d give this place another chance and hopefully next time will be more pleasant!

Everything was very good. However, waiter could have done a better job of explaining the spiciness of dishes.
We got confused locating the entrance to the restaurant. Tip - same entrance as hotel. The back entrance is for easy smoker access.
The atmosphere is pretty casual - no table cloth or cloth napkins. So why a 5 star? The staff and food.
Everyone was attentive but not intrusive. The hosted seated us immediately. Our waitress was super pleasant patiently went through the menu items. One member of our party is vegetarian. The amuse bouche was not vegan and she provided a vegan friendly option. All that we order was delicious and we where happy dinners. The lobster if prepared tandoori style and I would recommend.
For a delightful presentation order the strawberry shortcake dessert.

Portsmith is lovely, and, I imagine on a warm day would be a great outdoor space.
The food was limited but creative. Nice options. My friend and I both chose
to have the prix fixe lunch. Salad and main course were lovely and fresh.
However, the dessert was supposed to be petit fours of the chef and what
we got was a plate with 4 small pieces of candy for us to share. ?????
A little disappointing. Otherwise, good.

Tried out Portsmith for Brunch, and it was nice. Nothing spectacular or noteworthy but good for what it's worth. Their outdoor dining area is pleasant, although be aware that the bench seats are very mushy and make you feel like a child since the table top is so high up. My traditional breakfast was good with eggs, bacon, potatoes and an english muffin. The lox bagel was a bit lacking though - they don't give you much salmon at all. Coffee is bitter but ok once you add cream. We will try the place out for dinner sometime.
The fish and chips are amazing. Great service. The waiter had recently started, so he wasn’t that familiar with the menu.

An update. We gave Portsmith another try and it was a completely different experience. The service was flawless and the food was top notch. We had the seafood Campanella and the fish and chips. Both were very fresh, with a great mix of flavors. The meringue dessert was unique and worth trying. We are glad we came back!
Really disappointing. The hostess was completely confused about seating us. First telling us we could not sit outside because they had a large party coming (the party never showed up), then seating the two of us at a six-person table right next to the door outside, where all the traffic was coming in and out, finally settling on a two person high top. The waiter was nice but timed the food very poorly. We ordered a number of small plates, asking the waiter to space them out. Everything arrived at once. There wasn’t even room on the table for the dishes. Then, the amuse buche arrived.
The food itself was adequate.
The fish and chips were incredible! The Charred Avacado was served with a kimchi unlike any I’ve ever had. Absolutely amazing!

Expensive prices for average food
Great food, cocktails and a wonderful environment. Every dish was delicious, as well as the beautiful and inventive desserts.

Food was hit or miss. Halibut and salmon were prepared well as main dishes. Crab cake had odd baking spice flavor that overpowered any crab flavor and it was deep fried - save the deep fryer is for Krab cakes. Oysters Rockefeller were beautifully presented but way way overpowered by basil. As a seafood place couldn’t figure out why there were hamburgers on the menu??? This place has a lot of potential just not living up to it.
One of our favorites. We often just have some small plates because they are so good. We always get the tuna tartare. This time we tried 2 new menu items. The crispy fried shrimp delivered. The big surprise was the Blue Hill Bay Mussels which is enough for 2 or more. It came with Cioppino Verde, Chorizo, and Tomatillo. Full of flavor.

Our entrees were very tasty. Our server was kind but overwhelmed, and service was slow and awkward. Relative to our local favorites, pricier than the experience provided.

Unfortunately they were very short staffed the day I went. My table and I tried to be very understanding but our waitress was complaining throughout our whole experience and all of our food came out at different times. Once the food got to us, it wasn't anything spectacular. Would not go back.
Great ambiance, service, food, solid presentation.
My boyfriend and I were really excited to dine here because we heard great things about it from our friends. However, the experience was pretty disappointing from the start. We were seated in between two filled tables even though there were a good amount of seats that were empty. There was no privacy to speak or talk to each other. We placed our order very quickly because we were pretty hungry but got the chef's starter 45 minutes after while everyone else who got seated after us seemed to have gotten theirs quicker... The highlight was the Rumaki though -- it was delicious! The other items we ordered were ok but a bit too salty for my taste. We realized we over-ordered and asked to box up our food. Our server helped us do this but we felt like we were being judged a bit. She didn't even ask if we wanted dessert when she came back. She just gave us our check. I really wanted dessert and I wasn't even offered the menu. So we just paid and left. We were disappointed overall with the service and I don't think we'll come back again.

Menu was very clever with fabulous combinations.
Kids options need to be made differently for children, not just smaller adult portions of gourmet Mac and cheese.
Think I would have enjoyed it more if we dined upstairs.

Not the prettiest of rooms...but let that go and enjoy the food. Not sure why, in a fish restaurant they serve hamburgers, but perhaps they've had pressure from the hotel to add non-fish items to the menu. This is clearly a mistake.

We opened with a very seafood focused menu with very few non seafood items, as we have diversified our menu to include more common, non-seafood items, we have seen our business build. The waitress wasn’t much help
We had a reservation for 8:30. When we arrived we were sent to the bar to wait because the people at our table had been sitting there since 6:00. At 9:45 we were finally seated and by that time we were quite upset and had a far from relaxing meal. The food was above average except for the fact that the server told us they had run out of bread. After our complaining about that she arrived with some stale bread obviously heated up in the microwave. I understand that the restaurant has no control over patrons lingering at their table, but after 3 hours I feel they could have asked them to go to the bar instead of us. They did comp our drinks (2 glasses of wine), but I feel they could have comped a lot more - maybe our entire meal. We won't be back!
Decided to eat in our hotel restaurant....what a great idea! Meal was special. When they found out that my wife had a food allergy the waitress had a special appetizer prepared just for her. Above and beyond. Great service, great food,and great hotel....perfect 1st night in Chicago.
The food was hit and miss. The tuna tartare appetizer was fantastic but the yellowtail was disappointing. My experience was probably somewhat tainted by the lack of any foie gras on the menu which was in two of the most talked about items on reviews.
I didn't think the valentine's 4 course meal was that great. the rest of the menu looked great, but i didn't get that. I will come back to try the rest of the menu. the cocktails were great. The bread and creamy tomato soup was great. Salad not so much. the burrata on the salad was great. the rest of the salad was bitter and dry. the pot pie was okay. i was really excited for it, but it was underwhelming. lacked flavor. the service was great and the ambiance was great.
Excellent experience. Although it makes little difference in the long run, it would have been nice to have known that I wouldn't receive Open Table credit for the dinner PRIOR TO making the reservation rather than getting an e-mail after I had paid.
I have food allergies, the waitress was very helpful in working with the chef to figure out my options. I was worried that I would only be able to eat salad but we worked it out. I enjoyed the Tuna Tartare and Chinese Broccoli.

Excellent food and nice wine selection.
This restaurant weds more love! Every time we come here, the food and service is great. The mushroom pie is to die for and their green papaya salad is one of our all time favorite dishes. We’ve had almost everything on the menu. So, come and try it! I like to keep good places secret but they deserve the business.

The atmosphere was great, good lighting, intimate setting, the food was very good. Our only complaint was when we were seated we were seated very close to other groups so it was a little awkward at first but they left soon after and we were able to relax a little. It’s a place for a special occasion but Overall would recommend.
