Portside at Sydney Opera House
Very poor service on many levels but mostly redeemed by a good manager.
Ever reliable quality of good food but not service
The food and service were excellent.
Convenient pre-theatre venue seems to have high staff turnover as about half the staff had no idea of the pre-theatre deal. Wine was forgotten, then glasses which had not been ordered were delivered to the table. Haphazard service. Food all brought at different times and given to wrong people. It seems waiters are not responsible for particular tables as the communication and consistency was poor.
Food pretty good, but expensive, although recognise location is unparalled.
As a pre theatre venue this was not relaxing as staff did not come back to ensure that the courses were on time Not relaxing for pre theatre Maybe as a dinner venue
A pleasant pre-theatre venue. Prompt and efficient service, with excellent food. Should have worn a hat with the late afternoon sun, but having dined there before, we should have remembered that.
The service was excellent from the moment I arrived. The menu had enough variety. The meals were full of flavour and nicely presented. The meals were served at an appropriate pace for a pre theatre meal. The scenery of course is spectacular. The summer afternoon sun was a bit tricky to sit in. (May our problems never be greater!)
A most enjoyable experience. Great food, great service, and a wonderful location at Sydney Opera House. A perfect setting for either a pre-theatre experience or a leisurely lunch or dinner.
Lamb Rump with a side of pumpkin. Was the perfect match. Both had middle eastern inspired seasonings. The lamb was tender medium rare with a bed of pearl couscous, the pumpkin dressed with pomegranate. yum yum yum.
Great location. Service was a bit ordinary. Waving one's arms around to get attention is quite poor.
Food is good. Wine list is quite limited.
All in all, I would return.
A hectic early evening, house full of diners. Staff trying to fulfil all orders to get diners to their shows on time.
They worked hard!
Allow yourself plenty of time if you are going to a show, the number of staff is merger and the kitchen must be flat out too.
Staff are pleasant and helpful.
Quality of food is very good, price for set menu is priceworthy.
The view. The BEST.
Pate was excellent but pork was quite ‘dry’ & needed much more jus & apple sauce
Good pre theatre dinner spot. Great views, service spot on with timing for theatre. Adequate food and drinks menus.
Excellent service, quality food. Probably needs a wider menu choice.
Excellent service, good food and superb setting
Portside was a quiet respite from the hotspot of the opera bar area but with the same, if not better magical view of the Bridge, Circular Quay and the city. Food was very good and reasonably priced-especially given the location! Wine list is good with a range of price points.
Staff were friendly and helpful. They are mindful of the time constraints of the performance we were attending.
The icing on the cake was being able to see a cruise liner leave!
The view was amazing straight across to the Harbour Bridge. The food was delicious and the bill totally reasonable for 2 courses and a bottle of wine to share.
Portside is my go-to pre-theatre/Opera/show venue. The views of the Bridge are spectacular and the food and service outshines anything else along the Quay. Recommended if you want to get away from the Opera Bar scene and chat to friends over dinner.
All five of our group really enjoyed our food and drinks and our waitress was efficient a joy to deal with.
A lovely evening
I dine regularly at Portside and the food is always well prepared, very tasty and different.
I have always had an enjoyable dining experienced and would highly recommed it.
Attentive wait staff and relaxed, casual feel
We were a group of 6 and had the pre-theatre menu which was delicious. The service was prompt and friendly, the food great and house wine excellent.
The cost very reasonable and sitting outside overlooking the harbour was glorious.
A great night.
Nowhere is there anything to inform customers that the kitchen is only open to cater for pre-show dinners. We advised by some friends to eat at Portside as it was a nicer eatery than Opera Bar. When we were informed our friends that we had only 15 minutes to make up our minds regarding our food choice before the kitchen closed, they were quite horrified as they have never been informed of that either. I will never attempt to use this restaurant again.
A magical Sydney spring day, seated beside the harbour, looking over Circular Quay and THE bridge - what more could one ask?
Food was not pleasant to eat.
Soup was near cold, beef cheeks were awful.
The fact that I made 3 calls to the restaurant and not one call was returned should have been a red flag. Very disappointing experience we travelled down from rural NSW to meet an international visitor.
Soup was near cold
Potatoes tasted raw
Barramundi tasted like it had dirt on it
Beef cheeks were tough and over cooked
No sauce in the chocolate lava cake and the trifle was really bad it was like eating slop
Very convenient if you are attending an event at the Opera House and especially good if the weather isn't good. They are used to being quick and efficient as most customers are going to something at the Opera House so have a deadline to meet.
There was a good range of items on the menu, both food and drink, and we were happy we had chosen to dine there.
We dined here as a family group before seeing a show at the Opera House. Great service, delicious meal, lovely atmosphere, beaut view of city lights and harbour bridge.
As always the food is very nice. We had a show to see and our desserts came too late and we had to rush them unfortunately.
We liked the restaurant because as STC subscribers we found it convenient. The noise levels were low, so we could have a conversation with our friends. The food was good but there weren’t enough vegan options to choose from. Service was excellent. Provided more vegan options became available, we would love to come back here.
This was a pre-theatre dinner, so I did not expect anything special. However, I was surprised. The waitress was charming and assisted me and my guests with our choices for food and wine. Although it turned colder, the heaters provided sufficient warmth and ambiance. A pleasant dinner.
Disappointing. Pre-theatre dinner on a very cold evening - so with most of the tables outside why only 1 heater turned on? Asked if tables inside - was told that outside table only was available and that “they were doing their best” - later found that there were tables inside. Charmless service - a disappointing start to an evening at the theatre.
It’s a beautiful spot to show off to visitors
Thank you very much. Enjoyed dinner prior to Freedman Jazz Award evening. The service was very prompt and the meal was well presented. There was adequate time to attend the performance. There is a good range of choices on the menu.
We had a very nice evening at Portside celebrating our wedding anniversary, delicious food, good wine, spectacular views to the Sydney Harbor. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful pre theatre lunch. Service was good and food delicious. We will be back again without hesitation!
Food was very tasty and the wine list was very good
My friend and I both had the truffled orecchiette with cauliflower. It was delicious, and I loved that it was an ample but not unmanageably large serving (I hate leaving delicious food uneaten!). The radicchio salad was also very good, as were my cocktail - the pink margarita - and our coffees.
