Portside at Sydney Opera House
Eat here a lot and the view is unsurpassed and food/drinks and service always good.
The only reason you eat here is because you enjoy the view and/or you have a show at the SOH to attend.
The menu is tired, I don't think it has changed significantly in over a year, it is expensive, the food is at best average and the service is patchy _ strike the right waitstaff as we did and service in prompt and attentive, but the maître de was perhaps the most disinterested hospitality staffer I have met in months. It fails to improve despite our hopeful returns every 6 months or so
We had the pre theatre menu and the choices were good and the quality was good. Service was good and friendly and knowledgeable. Very reasonable sizes and prices. My third visit and it does not disappoint
Have been lots of times before theatre and food always tasty and well presented. Service usually good
Love this restaurant. It's especially perfect for a pre or post theatre meal if you're going to any performance at the Opera House. They have a great selection of food, and given it's prime location, it's quite reasonably priced. The service is always friendly and efficient.
It was brilliant as always. My partner and I always eat at Portside when we come to Sydney. It is our treat to ourselves. Unbelievable view, small but excellent A-La-Carte menu, and great staff.
Perfect spot for a pre theatre meal. Pleasant, polite,Quick and efficient and I always make my shows on time.
Great location for a pre theatre dinner.
Good food but a little expensive though views of the harbour bridge make up for that
I loved it! Great food, service and experience.
There were four of us dining, pre-theatre, but one of our party was delayed. That was handled well - no drama - and the waitress kept her eye on us waiting for our latecomer to arrive. Food was good, though range was limited. Wine served appropriately. An excellent night.
Very pleasant pre-theatre venue for dinner with wine and friends. Will definitely recommend to others.
Service was great and the food delicious. Not much on the plate with the chicken We needed to order several vegetable side dishes to have a meal. The risotto was good
Great customer service - we were seated by the door with lots of foot traffic, asked to move and they kindly accommodated us! INCREDIBLE views and really delicious rhubarb dessert.
I would like to recommend it for the service, however the meal portions were quite small for the pricing and simplicity
We had a lovely waitress, prompt and happy in her work despite being busy with pre-show diners. The beef cheeks were sublime and hubby's chicken amazing (I know, I had it last time) They were a little slow with our food but apologised long before we needed to say anything. and we still got away with plenty of time for Madama Butterfly.
We often eat here before a performance at the Opera House and it was lovely to see some new options on the menu this time.
It was quite cold outside but sitting under a gas heater with the wraps was fine. My lovely waitress (sorry forgot to get her name) brought me a cup of hot water to hold in my freezing hands when I arrived!
Service, as usual, excellent and the soup a fabulous starter.
I have selected Family Meal although only two of us. No other category fits; need a simple 'dinner'.
This is our go to place whenever we go to a show at the Opera House. The pre-theatre menu has delicious options and caters to most. I've never been with anyone who couldn't find something. It is backed up by good service to get you to your show on time. The view is an added bonus. Its also easy to book online, so I make a booking as soon as I know I'm going to a show nearby. Its the perfect set up.
Food was very good.
We told waitress that we are going to the
concert at 8pm. Our main course only arrived
at 7.35pm Delay in the kitchend we were told.
Not good enough.
Convenience to the opera.
Great service from attentive staff.
Warm and friendly atmosphere.
Set menus provided good choices and great value.
Meals were attractively presented.
Staff were conscious of the time our show started and enabled us to have a relaxing meal with plenty of time to make the show.
Overall our dinner contributed strongly to a wonderful night at the opera.
Perfect for pre-theatre dining. Good service; great food. We felt as though we were sitting in a noisy thoroughfare.
A delightful experience before attending the theatre. Good value set menu and very tasty food. Service was attentive but not over the top.
We chose the 3 course pre-theatre menu and were delighted with our choices - pumpkin soup and chicken liver pâté to start, barramundi and orichiette for mains with apple-rhubarb crumble and chocolate fondant for dessert. IMHO the soup bowl used for outdoor service in winter was too wide, causing heat loss during consumption and making access to the last drops of a delicious soup difficult. Our side order of roasted parsnip was delectable and my Barra was superbly cooked and served.
Service, food quality, timing (pre-theatre) - all perfect.
Great peaceful spot to admire the harbour views away from the rowdy mess that is Opera Bar.
Delicious food and excellent service
We just loved our dinner. The whole experience exceeded our expectations.
Service was prompt and efficient and I liked that they had a 2 or 3 course dinner option.
We were going to a show at 7.30pm and our server made a note to ensure our meal was leisurely but enabled us to get to the theatre on time.
My kingfish ceveche was delicious and my husband really enjoyed his large serve of pate. The side dishes were really nice too.
I would definitely book again if we were visiting Sydney again.
Our waitress was so kind and attentive. She explained the set menus and the specials with a smile. I had the kingfish entree and barramundi for mains and they were both simple but so well executed. The fish was just spot on! The side salad was well dressed - my healthy parents loved it and went for more. Dad's pate was just exquisite.
Waited 40 minutes for drinks and then got the wrong ones!
As a convenient spot for a pre-concert meal Port Side was perfect.
The food was excellent, the servers friendly and helpful.
The downside was the ambience, which despite some special multi-coloured lights for Vivid, was poor. We dined inside out of the freezing westerly, but couldn’t escape cold blasts coming from the auto doors.
Summertime, al-fresco I’m sure it shines, but winter inside doesn’t, something of a disappointment. Bennelong next time!
Too cold to eat outside with a view. There is no view of the harbor inside and the ambiance inside next to the opera house tour queue is quite plain. Very limited menu but food was tasty.
Great pre-show dining right in the heart of Vivid, but without the crowds.
I love this gem of a restaurant, it’s tucked under the side of the Opera House, isn’t noisy like some of the restaurants downstairs and lovely food and service.
Good food, good service, great location, handy for pre theatre.
We had the pre-theatre meal deal which suited us just fine as we were to attend a play at the Opera House Drama Theatre. We pre-booked and chose to eat inside which was in a section of the theatre foyer. It was quiet except just prior to a show starring in the Playhouse. The food was good and the service excellent.
Were there pre theatre. Food service was speedy after ordering though at times difficult to get service, especially as restaurant become busy. Food good quality with menu variety. Needed to go & get staff to come & bring bill. Important when needing to be st theatre on time.
Great place for a pre-theatre meal at the Opera House, or you can just enjoy the view. Small number of menu options, but service is quick.
We dined at the Portside before the theatre at the Opera House. The food is tasty and service was very good. The waitress was kind enough to advise that in order to make it on time for the performance, we should settle for the 2-course meal and we made it on time without having to rush.
The food is very good at Portside and the view is unparalelled, but the service is pretty lacklustre. Enough staff and plenty of goodwill; just chronically disorganised. Even paying the bill can be a challenge, with staff gazing at the machine as if it's just landed from outer space, and needing to call the manager for every little thing. When you complain or ask them to hurry the food up, they respond well, but it's a pity that it has to get to that point in the first place.
Fabulous in all ways until we ordered dessert. Sadly we had to leave to head to the Ballet before our dessert arrived! Too slow ...
Lovely to sit outside, excellent view, and very convenient for pre-show dining. Menu nice, but could be more items. The prosecco was too sweet for us. Very nice service on this occasion.
