Portofino Cafe Italiano
First time for us to Portofino. Got a great wine recommendation from our waiter in the price range we were looking for. Wife had the braised rib, which was tender, and tasty, but not distinctive. It came over a squash filled ravioli with seasonal vegetables. I chose the Provencal sole served with chantrelles over smashed potatoes(read, chunky). The fish was excellent and the flavors blended very well. It was also accompanied by seasonal vegetables.
Atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, overall, a very pleasant experience.
We have been to Portofino's before but this was the best. Our server was excellent. ( and he makes a wonderful Limoncello!)
It was a very pleasant experience and we will certainly return when next in Sellwood. Food was beautifully prepared.
Wonderful Italian wine list plus many others to choose from.
Portofino is an Italian restaurant with real Italian dishes. Excellent value. It's better than going to the Spaghetti Factory, and better prices.
Haven't been in a couple years, was surprised to learn of new owners and even more surprised about the wonderful food and service! We will be making more visits to this wonderful restaurant.
Lovely restaurant with good service and delicious food. It’s a cozy atmosphere.
My husband and I go here frequently. The food is always delicious. I try to order something different every time I come! The service is always great we really like their selection of food and desserts. Their dessert wine isn’t to be missed!
Excellent service and appreciated the recommendation on wine. Food was well prepared and delicious. We’ll be back! I
Food was terrific as usual. Service and ambiance wonderful. Gave 4/5 simply bec I am begging you to PLEASE BRING BACK MUSHROOM RISOTTO!
Great date night in Selwood. Very romantic spot with lovely pasta (GF options!!) and delicious main courses.
The server was just OK this time, not the quality we are used to. We have a large reservation on Saturday for a 30th bday party, hope it will be better
We were a group of three with each of us ordering a different entree. We were all very pleased and shared bites around. We also ordered a bottle of white wine (the verdicchio) which was different and delicious. Finally, we each ordered different desserts which we also shared around; these were delicious as well. One quibble was that the risotto that accompanied one of the dishes was not really a risotto -- flavorful and creamy -- but more like a bed of rice. This should be addressed.
I would call the cuisine inspired Italian -- what one might find in a high end restaurant in Italy (we were just there). Our waiter was not terribly knowledgeable but cheerfully sought answers to all our questions. And, gratefully, it was quiet enough to have normal conversation! Be aware that, like other Italian restaurants that avoid Americanized Italian, the servings are not huge (which I very much prefer), but it would qualify as overpriced but for the fact that the food was so good.
Portofino is one of our favorite places to dine - a great wine list and a wonderful constantly changing menu. It is one of the few restaurants in Portland where the noise level actually allows conversation. We've had it with the off the charts noisy hipster spots. Give us prompt service, a good bar and terrific food anytime.
Have been there before for birthdays, never a disappointment!
Everything on the menu looked so good that it was hard to decide. Both entrees were great. Caesar salad was wonderful.
Food is always fantastic and so is the service! They have a wonderful wine selection and they really know about their wines.
Dinner was exceptional as always and service even better. I only wish you would bring back mushroom risotto!
This was a bust for Mother's Day...had not been to this restaurant before and would certainly not go back. Everything from the Bloody Mary to the soggy crab benedict was sub-par for Portland's restaurants.
Delicious!!!! Been there before - will return - It's nice to have a quiet conversation and be heard.
We had a delightful time at Porto Fino. Andrew, our waiter, was polite, attentive, knowledgable
and a true believer in the talents of the chef. The wines (by the glass) were of good quality and fairly priced. The calamari (gluten free) appetizer we shared was the best I had ever had...light, tender, with just the right amount of crunch. My dinner consisted of the spring salad topped with grilled shrimp, and I can comfortably say that, in my experience, it was one of the best of its kind. The greens were fresh, varied and beautifully dressed, while the shrimp were perfectly grilled...flavorful and moist. The only negative comment came from my husband who mentioned that his food was over salted, and we both figured that was likely a random occurrence. Finally, the setting is intimate, comfortable, unpretentious and warm. We would gladly recommend Porto Fino to a friend.
I feel like the service was very slow. However the food was pretty good not as good as it has been when we have beeb th Er in the past.
The new menu brought significant price increases and fewer options.
We started with the soup of the day, a cream of onion with fried shallots, chives, and creme fraiche. It was tasty though a little under seasoned. I had the lasagne bolognese, which was very meat-heavy and without much flavor. He had the sausage in vodka sauce, and liked the sausage and sauce but did not care for the ricotta-infused pasta, texture was soft and the cheese didn’t really add anything. The cappuccinos were good. Service was a bit slow, fairly average. Corkage fee is $25, a bit high by Portland standards, and prices were high for the quality of the food. This is a very small place, fairly cramped, but the decor is nice. They do have a parking lot, a bonus for Sellwood district.
I had the most delischous ravioli and scampi with a sauce to die for! Wish there was maybe a little larger portion of the pasta as I could have eaten more of it. Yum!
I didn't like not getting points for eating here when I picked it thru OpenTable. why no points here?
The food never disappoints! They have a lovely menu and they are very aware specific dietary needs. The use fresh local ingredients prepared to perfection. They offer a lovely wine selection and one of the best limoncellos!
Best dining out experience I’ve had in Portland in a while. Food could not have been better: creative recipes, nice variety of entrees. I was sadly too full for desert, but will save room next time, because desert menu looked delightful.
Ambiance fun and welcoming, staff helpful and attentive without being too in-your-face. Should be a staple for folks who live in SE, and well worth the trek from other parts of Portland. I’m looking forward to my next opportunity to dine there!
The first time we went to Porofino after ownership changed we did not have the best experience nor was the food good. We decided to go back after they'd been there longer and glad we did!
Everything was improved. Service and food were very good.
Leg of Lamb was a hit and the salad was delicious and interesting. For desert we chose cherry/chocolate topped bread pudding and that was the only "so-so" dish. We'll go back again!
There is no actual check in for reservations, small entrance and someone greets you at door, a bit small though so as you walk in your right next to other guests tables and that would be distracting for me if I was already sitting nearby. The service was great very friendly and helpful. The food was fabulous, great taste and presentation. Some light music would drain out the discussions since a small venue you can hear conversations and not have a private one. Love this place and would definitely come back for more great food.
We loved the relaxed service, and they were accommodating of delay caused by Portland traffic. Delicious food, which was delivered very quickly. Great experience.
The food and service is amazing! This is one of our favorite restaurants!
Wonderful meal! Great caesar salad and rack of lamb special.
Was a past diner and loved the food flavors. This visit the quality seemed good but the flavors of all the 3 meals and ceasar salad was not there. Too bad as we would go here for special occasions.
Excellent Food & Cozy Atmosphere
JUST ONE OF THOSE MEALS THAT AS OFF ALL AROUND. MUCH TO MUCH SALT. THE MANAGER HANDLED IT VERY PROFESSIONALLY.
Wonderful Italian food, great pasta, nice wines to pair with the food. Great place for a date night!
Just a great Restaurant to frequent. Love the food and atmosphere.
I haven’t been there for several years and I have to say the service was much better this time than last time. The waitress was very attentive and the lasagna was amazing!
The neighborhood is cute, street parking was easy, the decor was delightfully old world without being cheesy.
The food was delicious!! I can't wait to go back and eat more!
This is not a place for a fast meal - be prepared to relax, sip your wine, and wait for your food.
Amazing as always!
Nice place. Big on wine. Comfortable venue. Good food but not blown away.
