Wonderful hidden gem that's also BYO. Super friendly family run Egyptian/Mediterranean restaurant with generous portions and delicious food.
Food was good and priced well. Only one person taking orders, doing take outs, bussing tables.
The simple storefront is somewhat hidden in a corner of a strip mall. Recommended by a middle eastern friend, the food is good if not fancy. We got the feeling they have a good take-out business. As of now, they have live music on Friday's in this small room. I have to admit the last two times eating here we've gone 'late' and were the only one's in the dining room. The owner or manager is always very accommodating which is appreciated. We've never been rushed. A good meal for a reasonable price.
We had such an awesome experience-food and service was tremendous!!
This is excellent, reasonably priced mideastern food. We also loved sitting outside for our friend, Peggy Hannis's jazz trio. Highly recommend the felafel platter, my own entree. The baklava is some of the best I've had. Owner was very busy trying to serve a larger group! Hope, when he has time, he can add atmosphere to inside of restaurant, which would make it a great draw for cozy, great food in winter. Leave the frozen calamari off the menu - only disappointment amid great hummus, baba ghanouj and other treats!
Five of us dined outside, beneath the stylish new umbrellas and serenaded by some great live jazz. The food was great and you can't beat their prices, especially when you factor in BYOB.
Food and entertainment was great!
This place is a hidden gem - you must go iif you like great middle eastern food.
The food is authentic and delicious. The service was very quick. BYO, is an extra plus!! A casual and laid back venue. A gem!!
I love the jazz music - created a really nice background for a relaxing dinner. Service is just ok, but lucky they have a cool jazz band that makes it worthwhile.
Best Egyptian food in the area. Good variety. Shared a memo plate. Try on Friday night for music, especially the ambience when eating outside. Check out the Meadery around back.
Finally tried Porto Falafel for the first time. I could kick myself for not going sooner. The food was so delicious and I can’t wait to try more. I’m a big fan of Middle Eastern cuisines and this was my first taste of Egyptian. The koshari was different than anything else I’ve had. Really good. The hummus was top notch. My husband loved his sajuk sausage and said the chicken kabob was the best he’s had anywhere.
They have live music on Friday evenings, and while the music was good, the place is just too small to be on top of four musicians, so avoid if you want to actually have a conversation.
I can’t wait to go back, though likely for takeout, which they seem to do a lot of!
We've been here several times. I love their Mid-Eastern food. The Lentil soup is the best I have ever tasted. And the Falafel is excellent. It was a beautiful evening with outdoor seating (which was good since the inside seating space is small.) Live music the night we were there....an excellent "duo" playing Beatles, Eagles,a lot of "classics",...plus songs by Bruno Mars! Delightful time. I recommend this place not only for its delicious food but also for the entertainment while dining. It's BYOB, which I like because usually, restaurants' prices for alcoholic beverages are high.
A really fun Friday night out. We sat outside and enjoyed flamenco dancing as entertainment. It felt like we were closer to the Mediterranean than a NJ strip mall. Food was good, staff were friendly. Will be back.
I had the shish kabob. excellent flavor and the meat was acceptably non-tender real chunks of meat. The rice was cooked and seasoned nicely. We also shared a hot appetizer of quail. Two birds, seasoning was less than spectcular...tasteless. I did not care for it, my fried frankly did not like it. It lacked any taste!!! What a disappointing $14 dish. My friend had chicken shawarna, he liked it. The salad was fresh. I had the fruit and yogurt drink, my friend had honey and yogurt drink. We both thought the drinks were refreshing. Then we ended the meal (absolutely full) with an Egyptian coffee (extremely strong espresso) and Egyptian tea (mint flavored). Both were good. Overall...wide variety of food. Some real gems there. The family mix grill really looked good, but we did not feel like eating that heavy in hot weather..may be when we come back in the fall!
Great small place with wonderful food. The service is always done with a smile.
I love Porto Falafel. I've been there many times. It's a lot of fun and the food is great. However, this time the service was off because they had a huge crowd so it took a very long time to get our dinners. I'd say from the time we ordered to the time everyone finally got their food, it was well over an hour. And different meals in our party arrived at much later times. The food is excellent and the waitstaff is very friendly. Just be prepared to wait if it is very crowded (like on a Friday night). And bring some wine, relax, and enjoy the music on Friday nights while you wait for your food.
The food was terrific and place was very quiet and Oriental
Everything that we tried, soups, salads, shawarma, falafel, etc. was excellent. Highly recommend this place regardless of its location in a strip mall. Looking forward to going there again.
I love Porto Falafel. The food is fantastic, the proprietors friendly, the prices are so reasonable. I love the Flamenco Jazz performance that was going on the evening we were there. I will be going there very frequently for all kinds of occasions.
A really good Arabian menu. Trying the hummus and falafel.
My first experience here, and definitely not my last. The food was really good, and prices very reasonable. We had Flamenco/Jazz live music and dance as entertainment and they were excellent. I had the Shakshuka, which was delicious. My friend had lamb/beef with rice and veggies...so delicious. The hummus and baba ganoush were also excellent. I can't wait to go back and try other items. The place was busy because there was an unexpected storm, so the wait staff quickly had to bring tables inside. But they were friendly and did their best to accommodate everyone. All of my friends also loved this place and we will definitely be back.
Food, food variety & Service were great. The bill for 5 people with plenty of leftovers was $120, but I tipped as if it was $200 (because the value was $200). My only regret was that the Jazz music plays on Friday (not Saturday). I'll be going back.
Suprisingly good. There is zero atmosphere, but the food is different, fresh, and served with a smile. Make your own atmosphere and fun.
