We first shared two small plates: the Scallop Crudo which I have added to my selective list of memorable dishes and the Lobster Lettuce Wrap which was also good. We then shared the delicious Seafood Paella which we enjoyed watching be prepared from start to finish from our counter seats. It was so huge that we have enough for two more meals (after adding more shrimp plus chicken and asparagus).
I would recommend the counter seating if you enjoy the choreography of watching chefs at work.
The only minor quibble was that we had to ask for clean plates for the paella.
The food was excellent and started coming so fast we weren’t sure if it was actually meant for our table!
Service was a bit inattentive
Never even sat down. Extremely long wait and poor service from the hostess. People around us were waiting for over an hour to be sat. Extremely disappointed in a Jody Adams restaurant.
This was my second time dining at Porto and while the food was delicious, the service was sub par. We had a 7pm reservation and were forced to wait 30 minutes before being seated due to "kitchen delays". When we went to order they were out of three of the dishes we wanted to try. I had a similar issue during my first dining experience: seated late, server was very slow to bring our drinks and food, and one of the items we wanted to order was unavailable. The food is delicious but I question the value of dining at Porto and hope they can manage the front of the house better in the future.
We went for dinner on Mother’s Day and when we arrived they told us the kitchen was backed up 45 minutes to an hour... it didn’t seem to be that long and the food was very good !
Mother's day 2018 five of us dined and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the service was good, the atmosphere was fun even if the price was a bit excessive. We had a wonderful time. This year we went, same 5 people and had a very different experience. It was disappointing., especially since we loved our first visit.
So disappointed. We went for Mother’s Day. The $50 paella was missing the octopus... so a third of the protein in the dish was missing. No one told us. Also, the paella was under done. We sent it back to get the requisite rice crust that is the hallmark of a well executed paella. My daughter had finished her burger and the paella had returned and was mostly eaten by the time I got my skirt steak. The steak was super chewy And honestly pretty spare. I asked for medium and I had a piece that was purple inside. I can’t imagine going back. Pretty sad Mother’s Day meal.
Server didn’t seem to care much and was definitely annoyed we had kids with us. I’d avoid dining here if you’re looking for family-friendly.
Some dishes were very good, other just OK. As advertised, they are small plates... that said, you certainly don't get a lot of food for the money you spend, thus the low rating I gave for value. If all the food was great, I wouldn't mind that so much. Our main server was good, but when the other servers started bringing the food out, it was helter skelter...people getting different dishes at different times. The servers bringing the food to the table did not know who had what and tried serving it to the wrong person (just ask!). After all the other food had been brought out, one of my daughters still didn't receive her main meal until about 10 minutes later (she had the same dish that I had). They took that meal off the bill, but we weren't happy overall. If you sit by the bar when it's cold out, be prepared for a blast of cold air now and then, as servers and other people open the side door fairly frequently. I'd give this place another chance, not sure the rest of my family would...
Hostess was so nice to accommodate our request for a different seating area.
Food, ambience and service, especially our waitress, were outstanding!
We asked a table but only counter was open for 4 of us. We told them we leave in an hour after quick brunch. But they still said no table available while half of the reserved tables were open. And of course they were open while we dine there. Disappointed customer service.
Server was not attentive. It took her a very long time to come over and then she forget about drinks. She also didn't tell us about all the bones in the fish. Worse at the end she left and never said good-bye. One of her co-workers gave us our check. The halibut was good and the salad was good.
Great service, wonderful food, and the desserts were absolutely incredible!!!
Sorry, but these folks have to train their staff better. Our server sold the menu as plates that we should all share which was exactly our plan. She also informed us that the food comes out as prepared. The first plate arrives, I ask for plates for each of us (we are a party of 6) and we wait. We wait. The second plate arrives I ask for plates again, we wait, we wait, we wait while staring at two plates on the table. Finally, plates arrive.
No hot dish arrived hot. The steak and pasta were both room temp. All this and we get hit with a 20% service charge because we are a party of 6. Sorry, not for me.
On the plus side, the food did have some nice taste to it.
Expect that you will not be able to have a normal conversation with the noise level.
Great from start to finish. Special service. Food the best. Immaculate restaurant. We will visit again soon and recommend to all our friends. Thank you Porto!!!
The food was great. But I made a reservation and when we arrived they did not have a table ready for us. We had to wait for a table and then they sat us in the lounge instead of in the actual dining area. The server only came to our table twice and we had to flag down other servers and even the bartender to get anything else and our check. The food is good but the service ruined the entire dinner experience. Unfortunately I will not be returning to this establishment.
Fantastic experience for group of experienced foodies. Highly recommend. Just a little noisy to conduct any business meetings.
The food as you would expect was delicious; the service was awful. Although they explained that the food might not all come out at the same time, one person in my group got their meal after we were all done. If they meant that the food would be 20+ minutes later than the rest, we would have ordered differently. And they did t take away the appetizer serving dish until dinner was served to the first person. The experience made worse when they made us wait a long time for the check. Disappointing experience at one of the few places I have wanted to try for a long time.
A terrific restaurant. The quality of the food and its preparation is outstanding and after four visits I can attest to the careful quality control. The menu offers a variety of portion sizes that makes finding a match for ones appetite easy. Everything is good but the eggplant chips are to die for.
Delicious food! Amazing atmosphere! Be ready to get many different options to fully experience the place.
Very noisy to the point where it interfered with the enjoyment of the meal. Food was fine. Service was ok. Had to ask for bread and water. My wife asked for two different cocktails and they were unable to make either. Honestly, couldnt wait to pay bill and get out of there.
I verbally confirmed my Wed night reservation for two people with the restaurant on Mon, two nights prior, and when we arrived on Wed, they were scrambling to find a place to put us, and had to clear/set the "bar" seating at the stove of the open kitchen. We were subject to clanging plates that were stacked right in front of us, the busyness of the cooks/kitchen, and the area was very hot due to the stove/ovens/etc. The food was good, but I found the menu limited.
We had an excellent meal at Porto. The mezzo board was delicious and almost a full meal for our table of four. The host staff honored our seating request (disability related) — always a positive start to our meal. The only minor negative was the number of times that kitchen staff came to the table with food that belonged to another group. It shouldn’t be that hard (?) Nonetheless, great food, and a pleasant evening.
The food is always amazing at Porto. David took care of our table for four and the service was outstanding. We enjoyed the $1 oyster special, charred broccoli rabe, burrata, scallop crudo, octopus a la plancha, grilled lamb chops, grilled pizza, and two rounds of the Maine lobster lettuce wraps. We also had two lovely bottles of Fiano. All in all a great meal with excellent service.
We just had a wonderful evening at Porto! I was hesitant due to some reviews on different sites, but glad we went! Loved the raw oysters, grilled octopus, mussels and the chocolate dessert. All excellent!!! We also had the halibut, it was good, but others were better. We liked the atmosphere was great and we had a great time. I highly recommend!!
My college friends and I had a wonderful reunion at Porto. A spectacular wine list with outstanding options was the first eye catcher. A wonderful wait staff kept us well fed and away from thirst. Every piece of food was spectacular. Could not have been happier.
This is my second visit to Porto. I liked the food very much on my first visit with work colleagues. So I came back the second time with my husband before the symphony. The dollar oysters were fabulous and are of great value. But unfortunately the paella was too salty. All the other flavors were overwhelmed by the salt. However, with that said, I would come back again to try other items on the menu.
The menu is excellent, the food delicious and well prepared. The noise level was so high that it was difficult to carry on a conversation across our table. I have been there when the noise level was not so bad so perhaps it was due to my seating and a large party near us.
Our party of six dined there on a Wednesday evening. The place was very busy which I was surprised to see because it was a weekday. It was a tad bit noisy because it was a full house so that is just to be expected. So, we just had to talk a bit louder than a normal conversation. That being said, the food and service was excellent and met our expectations. We ordered a lot of apps which were a bit small to share but were very tasty, especially the fried Brussels sprouts. The lobster wraps basically consisted of one bite, a bit salty and not worth the $9. But the marinated chicken breast was excellent as well as the hanger steak.
All and all, a happening place and would gladly return for another great meal.
FYI ..if you ask on your reservation if it is a special occasion which I did because of a birthday, perhaps a recognition of some kind would be a nice touch..a small slice of cake maybe?
My favorite everyday restaurant in Boston to entertain friends, go in after work, and have a clean, simple, Mediterranean meal. Always fresh and vibrant. Staff knowledgeable. Space inviting. Chefs obviously very talented and vibe casual yet elegant.
This was our third or fourth visit to Porto, this time for Sunday brunch. Fortunately there was an expanded menu and we had several small plates, all of them very good. Service was excellent. Porto doesn't have the warmth of, say, Giulia's, but it's a pleasant place.
Always excellent and creatively prepared food
Our new pretheater/symphony spot
The food was good but pricey. Service was adequate. The main problem is that acoustics of that room is terrible. It was so noisy that we decided to leave after the entree and had desserts somewhere quieter.
The meze plates let you try a lot, which is good because it’s all amazing. Drinks were good too. Definitely going back!
I had an amazing time at Porto last night. I have been here a few times before but this time was none like the others. The general manager Joe is so friendly and welcoming. He truly made my experience great. I will return once a week just to eat the delicious food and say hello to Joe. Thank you once again!
I had made reservations for 6 people for my adult son’s birthday . I stoped by the restaurant ( we happened to be in the city ) and spoke to the manager and requested a dessert with a candle at the end of the dinner and he assured us that he will take care of it but it did not happen ! The food and the service as my son said was good but not exceptional as they were busy opening outside patio . We have dined there few times before and were pleased with quality of the food taste and presentation but I guess you can not expect the same experience each time especially when it’s Marathon weekend !
Service poor, bizarre martini had to be sent back after 15-minute wait, paella was dry. Very disappointed...have enjoyed meals here in the past.
