The food was good but the portions were quite small, ordered two appetizers and a pasta dish which was quite greasy, service was definitely lacking, maybe it was an off night, then again maybe not!
Hangin our on the patio, beautiful night, excellent tapas made for a fun and lively meal. Try the Brussels sprouts, scallops and octopus...also had yummy paella. Overall great meal
My husband and I took our son and two friends for dinner before Boston Pops. Loved the mezze style as it allowed us to sample and share lots of different dishes. We all thought the food was delicious and the service was outstanding - our server was there when we needed her and kept checking in without hovering. Decor doesn't match the food and service but it's pleasant enough. Convenient location adds to the appeal.
I have been to Porto now 6-7 times in the past 6 most. The variety of offerings both in size and composition makes it easy to find just the right combination for the appetite du jour. Perhaps the best feature is the consistency of the preparation. They have excellent quality control.
Great food. Will definitely return for more! The spaghetti with clams were excellent as were the ousters. Only glitch was that our server changed our oyster order and did not tell us. Apparently, they ran out of one oyster and substituted with another one without telling us. Even though we did not get the oyster ordered, it was still good. The restaurant is Highly recommended.
Beware large groups. Made a reservation online for 8 and I had to provide a credit card. When we arrived a table was not ready for our party. On the plus side we picked our spot but the table wobbled & needed adjusting. All small plate menu. Not enough to share. Each of us ordered 2 per person. Flavorful but pricey. The kitchen did a good job. The policy is the food comes out as it's ready, so some of us had food to eat, others not. Even desserts were not delivered together so the birthday girl had to wait for her sorbet to arrive after others ate their torta. I've had dinner for two there before at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed it, that's why I recommended it. But given my experience this time, I would not recommend Porto for a group event.
This was our fourth visit to Porto. We love Mediterranean food and Porto is wonderful. We enjoy ordering lost of meze dishes to share. Have never been disappointed .
Food was fantastic. Great Wine. Overall great experience. Great Mediterranean food.
Enjoyed dinner and will certainly come again. Enough said..........................
I had booked Porto for my 30th birthday dinner with some girlfriends and we were all really excited to try it after hearing such great reviews. I arrived first and was greeted by a kind hostess who told me I couldn’t be seated until the other two girls in my party arrived. No problem at all there, she was kind about it. The others arrived and we were sat by the door, although there were plenty of other tables open in the space. But i didn’t hold it against them, figuring they were expecting to be busy on the Thursday evening. Our waiter arrived at our table, not even a minute after being seated and asked what we’d like for a drink. While I appreciate service people who are prompt, he didn’t even give us time. When we told him we weren’t ready yet but may need a couple minutes to figure out drinks, he seemed frustrated and left, not even introducing himself. When we finally put drinks and food in, he seemed agitated with our menu questions and was the least attentive server the rest of the evening. If I had to judge this place on service alone, I’d give it a resounding 1/5. But the food and drinks were delicious, especially the eggplant chips, albeit small plates. I’ll be back, but hopefully not to be served by him.
Thanks for a delicious meal Porto!! Everything was wonderful.
Not pictured - lamb chop. The zhoug was a great pairing.
The most amazing Brussels sprouts and fried eggplant ever!! Amazing mezzo board as well
Super loud!!!! Service excellent and speedy and food excellent. Not great for any conversation but fine for hoisting glasses to celebrate
Great place for a group dinner--we ordered several shared plates and had a great time trying many things!
Food is always outstanding at both of their restaurants - Porto and Trade. We are big foodies and they are our favorite restaurants right now. Started with the Mezze plate and eggplant chips, which are terrific! We then had the meatballs, Brussel spouts, whole wheat pasta, lobster lettuce wraps and octopus, which were all delicious! The food and service were outstanding. Justin was our server and was so attentive. My mother had a dietary restriction, which the restaurant accommodated with ease and the chef came out to see her. Honestly, Porto and Trade are two of the top restaurants in the city right now.
Everything was downright fantastic. I’m a food snob and have been to many a Boston restaurant - this by far exceeds 90% of the “best” restaurants in Boston. My friends and I three hours after leaving were still saying - wow that was the most amazing meal I think I’ve ever had.
First time there, everyone enjoyed their dishes. Service was very welcoming and attentive. Will return.
Good food. Portions are a bit small for some of the apps, but the branzino was perfect.
Starters were really small for the price that you are paying. Food came quickly though. Cocktails were good. The noise level was pretty high, so it became difficult to hear.
Staff were very kind and attentive - food is just amazing and their wine list is terrific. Can't wait to go back.
I would recommend but with a huge exception. There was an event there that made it over capacity and the noise level was too much. Way too crowded and no accommodation was made because of it.
We first shared two small plates: the Scallop Crudo which I have added to my selective list of memorable dishes and the Lobster Lettuce Wrap which was also good. We then shared the delicious Seafood Paella which we enjoyed watching be prepared from start to finish from our counter seats. It was so huge that we have enough for two more meals (after adding more shrimp plus chicken and asparagus).
I would recommend the counter seating if you enjoy the choreography of watching chefs at work.
The only minor quibble was that we had to ask for clean plates for the paella.
The food was excellent and started coming so fast we weren’t sure if it was actually meant for our table!
Service was a bit inattentive
Never even sat down. Extremely long wait and poor service from the hostess. People around us were waiting for over an hour to be sat. Extremely disappointed in a Jody Adams restaurant.
This was my second time dining at Porto and while the food was delicious, the service was sub par. We had a 7pm reservation and were forced to wait 30 minutes before being seated due to "kitchen delays". When we went to order they were out of three of the dishes we wanted to try. I had a similar issue during my first dining experience: seated late, server was very slow to bring our drinks and food, and one of the items we wanted to order was unavailable. The food is delicious but I question the value of dining at Porto and hope they can manage the front of the house better in the future.
We went for dinner on Mother’s Day and when we arrived they told us the kitchen was backed up 45 minutes to an hour... it didn’t seem to be that long and the food was very good !
Mother's day 2018 five of us dined and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the service was good, the atmosphere was fun even if the price was a bit excessive. We had a wonderful time. This year we went, same 5 people and had a very different experience. It was disappointing., especially since we loved our first visit.
So disappointed. We went for Mother’s Day. The $50 paella was missing the octopus... so a third of the protein in the dish was missing. No one told us. Also, the paella was under done. We sent it back to get the requisite rice crust that is the hallmark of a well executed paella. My daughter had finished her burger and the paella had returned and was mostly eaten by the time I got my skirt steak. The steak was super chewy And honestly pretty spare. I asked for medium and I had a piece that was purple inside. I can’t imagine going back. Pretty sad Mother’s Day meal.
Server didn’t seem to care much and was definitely annoyed we had kids with us. I’d avoid dining here if you’re looking for family-friendly.
Some dishes were very good, other just OK. As advertised, they are small plates... that said, you certainly don't get a lot of food for the money you spend, thus the low rating I gave for value. If all the food was great, I wouldn't mind that so much. Our main server was good, but when the other servers started bringing the food out, it was helter skelter...people getting different dishes at different times. The servers bringing the food to the table did not know who had what and tried serving it to the wrong person (just ask!). After all the other food had been brought out, one of my daughters still didn't receive her main meal until about 10 minutes later (she had the same dish that I had). They took that meal off the bill, but we weren't happy overall. If you sit by the bar when it's cold out, be prepared for a blast of cold air now and then, as servers and other people open the side door fairly frequently. I'd give this place another chance, not sure the rest of my family would...
Hostess was so nice to accommodate our request for a different seating area.
Food, ambience and service, especially our waitress, were outstanding!
We asked a table but only counter was open for 4 of us. We told them we leave in an hour after quick brunch. But they still said no table available while half of the reserved tables were open. And of course they were open while we dine there. Disappointed customer service.
Server was not attentive. It took her a very long time to come over and then she forget about drinks. She also didn't tell us about all the bones in the fish. Worse at the end she left and never said good-bye. One of her co-workers gave us our check. The halibut was good and the salad was good.
Great service, wonderful food, and the desserts were absolutely incredible!!!
Sorry, but these folks have to train their staff better. Our server sold the menu as plates that we should all share which was exactly our plan. She also informed us that the food comes out as prepared. The first plate arrives, I ask for plates for each of us (we are a party of 6) and we wait. We wait. The second plate arrives I ask for plates again, we wait, we wait, we wait while staring at two plates on the table. Finally, plates arrive.
No hot dish arrived hot. The steak and pasta were both room temp. All this and we get hit with a 20% service charge because we are a party of 6. Sorry, not for me.
On the plus side, the food did have some nice taste to it.
Expect that you will not be able to have a normal conversation with the noise level.
Great from start to finish. Special service. Food the best. Immaculate restaurant. We will visit again soon and recommend to all our friends. Thank you Porto!!!
