Fabulous restaurant!! Well priced. Quality of food is superb. Love the atmosphere. Still talking about the oysters and portobello with prosciutto we got for appetizers..yum yum!
Great little spot. Menu has an Italian lean, but they have other options too. I had a nightly special and it was outstanding. Portico has a wonderful outside patio that is perfect for a pretty day. They don't have draft beer, but an ample bottle selection.
This was my first visit and all of the recommendations from friends who love Portico were spot on! It is truly a perfect place for a date and the restaurant even remembered the comments on the reservation that it was my date's birthday! The ambiance was perfect and the food and service were outstanding.
I can't wait to return when it's warmer to enjoy the gorgeous patio area!
Had to wait over 30 mins for our table even with a reservation. Food was wonderful and waitress was very good.
Ok but not outstanding; noisy and very small table for four; server was very rushed
Service was slow and staff was not polite. Overall, not impressed.
Birthday the only reservation available was 5:15. I was hesitant to go that early but it filled up and I never felt rushed to leave to open up the table. Everyone enjoyed their dinner
Always an amazing dining experience at this isolated River Road gem. Dining is cozy and quiet. Menu selections and specials are diverse and prepared exquisitely. If you’re not local, it would be worth a drive to experience it.
It was a cold windy night, we're in our 70's and we were seated about 25-30" from a side door where people kept entering and leaving. The traffic around kept the dining experience from being intimate and the constant opening of the door kept us uncomfortably cold. As soon as my guest arrived, we requested a different table as there were 4 or 5 that were vacant but our server asked the hostess and she told him "no " as they were all under reservation but not immediate reservation. My suggestion is: Don't place your customers so close to a door.
Waiter was fine --he just couldn't solve our situation.
Portico has a varied menu suitable for affairs from the casual to the sophisticated. We were there on a Friday night, when it was humming and the noise level was very high. We started with a bottle of wine at the bar, a $51 Corvina which I found, when researching later, was only $13 at retail - a pretty obnoxious mark-up for an 85-rated wine. But our dinners were reasonably priced and excellently prepared: my wife had veal scallopini, and I had veal piccata. My starter, tuna crudo, wasn't any fancier than a few slices of yellowtail over pickled cabbage accompanied by a smear of soy and a smear of wasabi, but it was good. My wife's wedge salad was everything one would expect. We'll definitely return but do a little research on the wine list before we go.
Been twice, good food, atmosphere, service. I'll go back!
Portico was recommended by some friends. Our dinner was a combination celebration for a son's birthday and an award that was received by our other son that night. Our original reservation was for 8:30 and we did not arrive until almost 10 pm. The food and service were both amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant for dining.
Delightful atmosphere and outstanding food and service. Couldn’t have asked for more!
Dinner for my wife’s birthday with a close family friend. My wife, as always, had the hamburger. I had the penne a la vodka with sausage, and our friend had the ravioli. We were all pleased.
This is the THIRD time a waiter has blown off my request to check with or note to the chef that I have a gluten ALLERGY! It was an early dinner (5pm) so not very busy but the wait between our salads and our meals took exceptionally long... then my chicken came out covered in a thick sauce when I made sure to ask the sweet girl who brought it out if they were SURE this was GF she sweetly said she would go ask (she was not our waiter who was awful) She quickly returned and was profusely apologetic as she scooped up my plate. My daughter finished her entire pizza before my new chicken came out (drenched in oil) - we love Portico For it’s location and atmosphere. But it’s embarrassing and sad for me when I can’t trust the food I’m eating - simple education and courtesy are all I ask. The waiter never apologized or even checked on us until it was time for the bill. Very disappointing. And I have reached out to the management twice for the exact reason previously so I definitely don’t feel heard.
Everyone had a yummy meal. The calamari was perfectly crispy but not over fried. I had the veal and it was pounded perfectly thin. Others had pasta that was so filling and flavorful. Gelato - salted caramel was the perfect end.
This w as my second meal at portico, with just my wife and I and it was very good. We were promptly seated for our reservation, the food was excellent and the service was spot on. I'm a little bothered by the noise level as my hearing is going the way of my fathers and in crowds it gets tough, but conversation was easy.
We had a lovely Valentine's Day dinner at Portico. Our waiter was attentive, the food was excellent - lobster w/homemade fettucine, shrimp appetizer and lemoncello cake for dessert. The ambiance was warm and homey - we even visited with the people next to us and compared what we'd each gotten. Definitely will try again.
Great food and ambiance. Was a little noisy, but can’t wait to dine on the patio this spring.
As always this place knocked it out of the park! Great food and great place to enjoy time with close ones. Going back again very soon!
Great meal. Price matched the value.
The food at Portico continues to be consistently outstanding. In winter the facilities are a bit crowded as it is extremely popular and the outdoor garden/patio is not available. Reservations are a must. Service is also outstanding provided by employees who clearly like working there and who are pleasant as well as efficient. I highly recommend Portico if you want an outstanding dining experience and don't want to pay Richmond's high meal taxes.
Loved our meal and the service. It was ur first time there and we will come back.
The food at Portico Restaurant was extremely delicious, I had the shrimp stuffed with crabmeat, everything was so flavorful including the mash potatoes and zucchini.
Enjoyed my second visit to Portico; my husband enjoyed host first. We will go back. Gnocchi dish was more than I needed, but glad to have leftovers. My husband had the pork special with berry/cherry demi glaze, and loved it. No leftovers for him!
This is probably our 10th visit to Portico and have never had a bad meal or bad service. We will come back 10 or more times!
Excellent service, food is always superb
Our favorite restaurant when we visit Richmond. I had a rock fish special with a lemon sauce that every one at my table thought was the best.
We enjoy Portico and visit often. The food and service are always reliably wonderful and the setting cannot be beat.
Did not have red wine glasses? Food was delicious!
Still my favorite place in Richmond. Ambience is unmatched and food always good. See you soon.
Overall: Very good food and very good service during the meal. It would have been a really nice dining experience if we hadn't been asked to surrender our table about 15-20 minutes after finishing our main meal and clearing our tabs. We were told there were people at the bar waiting for a table, so we did leave even though we would have been heading out within 5 minutes or so anyway. I was embarrassed to feel we had overstayed.
I would recommend first time diners enjoy Portico in the spring/summer as their patio seating really sets them apart. The winter ambiance isn’t as spectacular but is cozy and quaint. I like that it is off the beaten path a bit. Food is not out of this world but I enjoyed the lamb risotto which was recommended by our server.
Fried artichokes awesome
Pasta with seafood special was flavorful and scratch made
Very nice evening.
Great place, we really enjoyed the food ! Nice quaint restaurant out of the way.
We love the menu at Portico, always enjoy our meal.
The restaurant was a bit loud and crowded, but I assume it was due to the holiday season. The food is always excellent and the cocktail drinks were so unique and delicious.
The restaurant was decorated for the holiday and was just beautiful. The meals we ordered were cooked just right and nice portions. Our waiter could have been a little more friendly. He seemed like he really didn’t want to be there. I would like to say the young gal with the blonde hair ran her butt off bringing food in from the kitchen. She was definitely the hardest worker this night!
