Portico Restaurant - Richmond Ratings and Reviews
This w as my second meal at portico, with just my wife and I and it was very good. We were promptly seated for our reservation, the food was excellent and the service was spot on. I'm a little bothered by the noise level as my hearing is going the way of my fathers and in crowds it gets tough, but conversation was easy.
The food at Portico continues to be consistently outstanding. In winter the facilities are a bit crowded as it is extremely popular and the outdoor garden/patio is not available. Reservations are a must. Service is also outstanding provided by employees who clearly like working there and who are pleasant as well as efficient. I highly recommend Portico if you want an outstanding dining experience and don't want to pay Richmond's high meal taxes.
Overall: Very good food and very good service during the meal. It would have been a really nice dining experience if we hadn't been asked to surrender our table about 15-20 minutes after finishing our main meal and clearing our tabs. We were told there were people at the bar waiting for a table, so we did leave even though we would have been heading out within 5 minutes or so anyway. I was embarrassed to feel we had overstayed.
I would recommend first time diners enjoy Portico in the spring/summer as their patio seating really sets them apart. The winter ambiance isn’t as spectacular but is cozy and quaint. I like that it is off the beaten path a bit. Food is not out of this world but I enjoyed the lamb risotto which was recommended by our server.
The restaurant was decorated for the holiday and was just beautiful. The meals we ordered were cooked just right and nice portions. Our waiter could have been a little more friendly. He seemed like he really didn’t want to be there. I would like to say the young gal with the blonde hair ran her butt off bringing food in from the kitchen. She was definitely the hardest worker this night!
Great atmosphere and very accommodating for our group of 10 that the day before grew to 12 with no problem. Seated immediately and greeted and served with great care. Everyone loved their drinks and the entrees were excellent. They brought a candle out on the birthday girl's cake (tiramisu). A good time with parking no issue - this is a plus anymore in the west end, especially over the Holidays. We'll be back to enjoy the patio in the warmer weather!
Service was good, however food is was over priced for what you get. The dishes we had were good, just not 30.00 a plate good. Both me and my wife left feeling a bit underwhelmed having spent 100.00 on a meal that should have cost closer to 50.00. Drinks were good too.
In spite of reservation, there would be a wait for an indoor table,so the hostess offered outdoor seating. It was a lovely evening and the outdoor heaters took care of any chill. It was quieter than inside, and we were happy to be outside and enjoying attentive service. We shared an excellent calamari appetizer. The entrees were beautiful in presentation and delicious. We tried different desserts, which were both beautiful and scrumptious. We lingered at the table after our meal, and savored a most enjoyable evening. We will be back!
