Seriously the best meal and great atmosphere!!! We will definitely be back!!!
My scallops appetizer was fabulous. My seafood crepe was also great. My wife's veal. was awful. Very chewy. Left most of it on the plate We ate inside because it was so hot and humid outside. Big mistake. Very, very, very noisy. Could not carry on a conversation with my wife. Would not allow me to leave the tip on the gift card. Very tacky. An Italian restaurant should do a an exceptional job with veal. They did not. It was well short of tender.
Delightful ambiance, but a bit noisy. Good service and delicious food. Would have liked fresh-grated Parmesan offered for my dish versus grated in a shaker...to match the quality of the food.
Overall excellent experience! Food was great. Service was amazing.
The entree portion size was
Such a lovely environment, whether inside or outdoors on the patio. The service and food never disappoint. We go back again and again for delicious meals professionally and beautifully executed.
The place is beautiful and calm. We really enjoyed the food. Everything was tasty. Service was also prompt and respectful.
The ambiance and wonderful food make Portico a favorite of ours. We enjoy taking out of town guests as they love the overall experience. Outside dining option is also a plus!
The patio is the experience you want...the rest is not important
Great food and dining atmosphere outside on the patio. Toured the herb garden and beautifully landscaped grounds.
Loved the setting. The food and service were excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
We had a lovely dinner at Portico. We ate out in the garden which is one of my absolute favorite places. The service was excellent and my ravioli do casa was delicious. It was the perfect place to have dinner with our friends.
Portico never disappoints - the staff is always polite and helpful, the food delicious, and the location is lovely - if weather permits we love to sit outside.
It was perfect- the food was to die for ! Manny our server was amazing. He made my birthday so special. Thank you!
I have been to Portico several times and something has changed. The service was horrible...not attentive or very professional like it used to be in the past. The server forgot to order on of the appetizers and we asked for extra ice and lemons and it took 15 minutes to receive them. The entrees came and we still has out appetizer dishes at our settings. The is 101 in server mgmt. The food was meh...nothing great and for the price, I am going elsewhere.
While the ambiance is great, you've lost me in service and food.
Always an excellent meal! Sat outside this time on the patio and was a great experience.
Our server didn't do an adequate job. Never place your hand on my shoulder so you can reach across the table to get my water glass and then never do it again on my wife's shoulder. It was a small table by the door. You could have walked around the table to get the glasses. The maitre d' had to bus our table once and another waiter had to take our dinner plates after too much time spent looking at empty plates and
empty water glasses. For the money spent the service should have been better. My son has been a server so I regretfully paid a good tip, but it would have been far better had the service been better. All this on a lazy Sunday evening when it wasn't that busy. It was my wife's birthday but we left without ordering dessert as we thought it would take to long to get there.
The food was excellent as always. My wife had the pork medallions which she highly recommends. I had the swordfish and my son the steak.
Great hidden place! Loved eating outdoors and the atmosphere was just right. Service was good but could’ve been a little more attentive.
While Portico has very nice ambiance & good food, the wait staff's attitude & lack of assistance marred the experience. The individual was not cordial & had an indifferent attitude. In addition, the person was obviously wanting to hurry us through our meal to turn the table over quickly. We had to pry information out of the person about how individual entrees were prepared and served.
The person who had recommended the restaurant had warned us about the wait staff but we thought perhaps it had been an odd occurrence. Obviously it was not & we will not be returning to the restaurant.
Also, when we made the reservation we had noted that it was for a birthday celebration. The restaurant obviously ignored it.
Was another great meal before me and the Mr move back to the midwest!
Lived it! Can not wait for fall and dinning outside next to the fireplace.
This is our favorite restaurant ! We spend our anniversary here each year! This was 35years! First time having brunch. It was delicious as usual but I prefer dinner and the evening ambiance! We'll be back!
Food, atmosphere and service are always excellent! It is our favorite date night spot.
Great service and excellent food.
Have been twice and simply love this place. Great atmosphere, very charming and romantic, beautiful location. Service is top notch and the food is delicious. A bit noisy, though.
Gorgeous setting. Food ok.
We always love Portico. The food is good....the ambiance and the restaurant itself is extremely charming and quaint. The bartender was really standoffish and slow to help while we waited on our reserved table. I understand it was a busy night but it was really odd. Otherwise...our server was perfect and we had a great night.
Great food and ambiance. Waiter even moved the cat that was sleeping on the wall near our table when I said I didn’t like cats.
Oudoor dining in the garden patio was way better than eating inside the restaurant. Luckily we chose a night with low humidity, moderate heat, and no precipitation. Outdoor dining tables were nearly all full by 7:15. We trusted the chef’s specials as we often do here, and were not disappointed. One of us chose a pasta with shrimp and salmon in a vodka cream sauce. Another chose bacon wrapped pork tenderloin medallions with a sweet and savory topping featuring seasonal peaches and golden raisins in a demi glace. Both entree specials were rich and impressive. Our waiter was helpful in choosing wines, and quickly and effortlessly met all our needs. These are the things that keep us returning to Portico- Richmond.
We celebrated my wife's birthday here for a late meal (8:15 pm). The food and service were great as always but this visit was hindered by a too noisy couple of tables. The main dinning area is small and anytime the people around you are talking loud it lessens the evenings ambiance. There probably is no easy solution but it made it difficult if not impossible to talk quietly at our table.
We both had the specials and the server had to practically shout them to us to be heard at table side. Maybe print the specials so guests can at least read them when the room is very noisy? I did hear Lamb Chops which I selected and they were delicious!
Food was great. Special Covina was delicious. Salmon was also very good. No garden due to heat but staff worked hard to accommodate press of indoor rush.
We love going to Portico each time we visit family/friends in Richmond. We absolutely love everything about Portico.
Overall very good, food and drinks were great, service was good. Could use sound dampening to help acoustics, hard to hear our waitress. Would definitely go back, outdoor patio looked great in good weather.
We had a great waiter named Manny he was very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious as usual! The noise level was way too loud that’s our only complaint we were celebrating our anniversary and would’ve liked it to be quieter!! Will always come back we love Portico and the owner always speaks to us which is really nice !
Had a very good dinner and overall a grade of B-. Was disappointing that we couldn’t sub a salad for the cooked vegetables.
Overall very enjoyable; however, we did find it necessary to retreat to outdoor dining due to the high noise level. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and service was good, but the high humidity and heat weather dampened the experience.
Everything was wonderful from start to finish!
Odd that so much was so right--but I don't plan to go back.
1. Really "nice" place.
2. Waiter attended well without hovering.
3. Food was well-prepared and presented.
But. In order to be heard even by a table-mate one had to literally shout--and apparently everyone was determined to be heard. I do not believe a kid-zone McDonald's would be near that loud on a Saturday. If not the loudest restaurant I've ever been in, it was certainly the loudest "nice" restaurant.
You absolutely need to do something about the noise level. Removal of the rugs had a noticeable impact on the ability to have a normal conversation at dinner. The view is unique but we’re not likely to return if sound masking of some type not added; really impacted the ambiance of a peaceful country garden feel. Our server was wonderful and the food was good, but again the noise level was just too much.
