So loud you couldn’t talk. Also waiters must hate working their, dropping dishes into bucket as loud as they could. Sounded like dishes breaking all night
Amazing food and atmosphere!
Outstanding and I'm much more to say then outstanding
Delicious food, great service, and amazing atmosphere.
Awesome food. A bit loud unless you sit near bar...
Reliably good..outside is the best!
I ordered the salmon and it was lukewarm when it arrived and had too much butter/grease.
My favorite RVA restaurant... great food, great ambiance, great staff. It can be a little noisy, but nothing that should keep you away!
Service was just ok- felt like we were being rushed, asked to have specials repeated, because it was rushed thru. Wanted to enjoy our cocktails, but felt we had to order right away.
I generally love Portico but this meal was not as good as usual. The side salad and cesar salad were nothing special although one guest had the artichoke appetizer and it was very good. The entrees were decent but mine, the special of sea bass, had a mildly green, too thick sauce covering the fish (too much- overwhelmed the fish in terms of texture) and the sauce was completely lacking in flavor. The whipped potatoes on the plate were the worst I have ever had at a restaurant. They honestly tasted like instant potatoes made from the dried flakes--honestly had the texture of those instant potatoes and lack of flavor. There is something odd about flavors lacking in these dishes. Even the so called herb spread for the bread had zero flavor. All four of us agreed and tried to figure out what it was; it had zero appeal. Service was a bit inattentive although it was busy and we were in no rush. But we had to ask for things like butter and then sugar for the coffee, so you sit there with the item, awaiting the condiment and it should have been brought with the food in the first place. The desserts were very tasty; the Tiramisu was the best I have ever had. So...very uneven I would say but the real issue is that flavors are lacking. I think its worth another try in the future but the chef needs to find a way to add flavor when using sauces and herbs.
Love this place!! Looking forward to warmer weather to have brunch on the patio.
The restaurateur has not caught up with people with food allergies. 95% of their menu is loaded with gluten and did not offer much for those of us with gluten allergy. A high end restaurant in a high end neighborhood should offer menu with food allergy. The dining room was very cold. I would not be returning, very disappointed.
Great evening. Great food. Good service.
Excellent meal choices for lunch and excellent service from Manny!
Always enjoy this place, reliable, consistent. "Welcomed back" by the host, nice touch! Good food and good bar too!
The ambiance was so nice. We loved sitting outside with the heating lamps. The service was great and the food was amazing!
Nice evening to enjoy the patio.
Location and atmosphere are great. We dined on the patio for the first time this visit and recommend it for a change of pace and less noisy experience. The veal piccata and seafood crepes are great, and their pizzas and apps are always excellent choices.
Still great food, but apathetic service on this visit + table next to bar with little ambiance and wait staff constantly bumping my chair.
One of the best restaurants I've been to! Have heard great things, now I know why! Great brunch. BEST TIRIMUSU EVER!!!
The only negative about Portico is the loudness when busy. We were in a back corner and had a very difficult time hearing each other talk.
Absolutely amazing. Beautiful, comfortable, and home-y feeling. Food is so delicious. Wish the waiter had been honest with how big the appetizers actually were (we ordered way too much food because of it). Still the food was made to perfection and overall experience was amazing.
The entire experience was delightful. Great atmosphere, friendly service and the food was delicious! Thank you Portico for such a unique dining experience ... we had out of town guests, and they LOVED it too.
Wonderful brunch!! Waiter was friendly, as they always are at Portico; we didn’t feel rushed; the food was delicious, as always; and prices reasonable for the quality of the dishes.
We went for our anniversary and everything was great, the service, the food but very noisy. I had to ask my wife to repeat things several times.
While the food Ann’s ambiance is wonderful, the tables may be a bit close together inside as it was quite noisy. We felt
Ourselves having to shout due to two larger parties on either side of our twosome table.
Always live Portico... friendly, good food, love the styling and atmosphere.
Delicious food but very loud at Portico. Hard to hear the person across the table.
Food is always excellent as is the service , very loud inside the restaurant, I prefer dining here when weather is nice & can be seated outside where it’s not so loud , even if it’s not crowded , it’s loud
Excellent as always great food excellent waitstaff father-in-law had 90th birthday great experience One of our favorites in west end
Our group of 7 people thoroughly enjoyed dinner here. Pastas were outstanding. Wide variety of specials that appealed to everyone. We had one guest who was running late and the waitstaff didn't seem phased - they were very flexible. Our family has enjoyed special dinners here on other occasions are we've always had a great time.
Excellent food and ambience. The experience was well worth the drive and I would highly recommend this restaurant especially for aspecial occasion
Our group thoroughly enjoyed Portico on our 30th anniversary. The cocktails and wine were excellent, and the dishes were superb. Our large group enjoyed the vegetarian selections as well as the wonderful seafood dishes. Among several dishes offered, all were beautifully presented. The restaurant was casual and had a country feel that was cozy and fun... It was a nice get-a-away that was close to home. There was no wait and the restaurant was not crowded.
Looking for a quiet dinner on New Year’s Eve & was seated next to a party of 12 (that should have had their own room) where we couldn’t hear each other talking. Normally a wonderful dining experience that we can count on but this night felt rushed....in & out in one hour! Will definitely take a break from Portico.
NYE! Great food!
As always, the ambiance was excellent (beautiful holiday lights) but the wait staff has absolutely no personality & sets a negative tone immediately.
Having been to Portico’s many times, this time
was disappointing. The restaurant was not busy,
however, our waiter rushed our experience ...he was
not friendly or accommodating. Other staff was not
welcoming or friendly.
The lunch food was just ‘ok’ at best.
This was a special occasion with special friends ... I felt as thought I needed to apologize for the experience not fulfilling
We love the food at Portico. We usually try to make our reservations late so the noise level is better. The two of us actually have had to practically yell at each other to be heard. Apparently, to be a waiter there you have to pass a test showing you have absolutely NO personality. My husband and I actually bet when we go there that the waiters don’t interact ( guess we are the dummies because we still tip at least 20%).We did have a waitress one time that was engaging. She must have gotten fired as we haven’t seen her again. Last weekend actually took the cake. Our waiter never brought our bill. We had to get it from another server. When we left he was talking to the bartender and never acknowledged us. We go out about six nights a week and I can assure you these waiters are the worse we have come across. Not sure how much longer the good food can attract us with the poor service.
While the food and service was excellent, the noise level was unbelievable. Loud, loud, loud!!!
