Inspired by Italy’s aperitivo hour, when public squares and streets are filled with lively conversation, Portico serves handmade and authentic Italian fare in Sebastopol in western Sonoma County.

A portico is a colonnade or covered walkway in classical architecture. Since the middle ages the elegant porticos of Bologna, Italy have a meeting place for the public as well as a place for business. Paolo Pedrinazzi (who is from Bologna) and Kat Escamilla, owners of the new Portico trattoria , bring this experience to Sebastopol. They even have monthly Regional dinner parties with live jazz.

The setting includes an Italian fountain on their cozy patio. Portico offers light table service and counter ordering. Excellent Italian wines are sold in the restaurant at retail pricing; refreshingly unpretentious. The menu features an array of antipasti, handmade egg pasta, gluten free risottos, Bolognese lasagna, tiramisu, and baked goods . A market in the front is stocked with take-n-bake entrees

Feels like you're at someones home in Italy..everything hand made..the burrata absolutely delicious..our server a doll - so accommodating and kind. The owners are there..they come by and check in. Everything feels fresh and made with love. Highly recommend as a date night or a stop by for wine, bread and burrata dipped in olive oil...

Fresh and delicious. Beautifully layered lasagna with just the right balance of pasta, creamy sauce and filling. Beet and chèvre salad size was generous, split by 2 of us. Burratta cheese and bread appetizer was so tasty. We will definitely be back.

Love the food and people - owners and servers. Unfortunately, a table of four were very noisy and filled this small but excellent restaurant, making me uncomfortable. I will definitely return at an earlier hour in hopes of avoiding loud, uncaring customers.

We were disappointed that they had run out of chicken piccata at 7pm along with one other chicken dish. I enjoyed my salmon parpadelli and the lasagna bolognese was very good. My friend had the Bolognese pasta and felt it was a bit dry and little flavor. They were gracious to bring extra sauce. Overall food was ok and I can’t say that I would be returning.

It was surprisingly expensive. $200 for past for four adults and we didn't even get wine. The Matron of the place frowned at our 16m old grandson alot as if he was unwanted. He wasn't loud or unruly. It's just that he hasn't acquired language yet and his chatter sounds like gibberish. Besides that we weren't even there during the prime dinner hour when 'serious' diners might be bothered; our reservations were for 5:15p. I won't go back.

Good food, but very small portion sizes. Definitely need an appetizer along with a dinner plate to be full, and even then I was still hungry only an hour after. A cute place where you can watch them make fresh pasta in the kitchen.

We stopped here for dinner on the way to Guerneville and ended up quite disappointed in the food. The service was attentive and kind, but the actual meal was lacking in most ways. The meatball "entree" came with 3 meatballs about the size of lacrosse balls which felt small given the price, but they were also too tightly packed, a bit dry and the red sauce had some unknown spice note (like curry or coriander or something) that didn't belong in an Italian red sauce. The Mushroom Provolone pizza and the bolognese both had almost no seasoning at all. The Mushroom Saffron Risotto was made well, the house made tagliatelle was fresh and delicious, and the pizza crust was very good as was the olive loaf they served with our food. It could be that we just like more seasoning (basil, oregano, garlic, etc.) and the cuisine of this restaurant is not that style of cooking but we left underwhelmed.

We had a date night with our 4 yr old daughter and 9wk old puppy. Paolo and Kat are always quick to greet and check on all guests. This little mom and pop shop serves up the best fresh pasta and Familia style of hospitality makes dining at Portico is a transformative experience that make you feel like you just took a teleporter to Tuscany. We got a few apps, some favorites the bolognese, prosciutto with cream and peas, & tortellini. So yummy don’t miss out and you can’t forget the bubbles.

My whole family loves Portico! The food is consistently delicious, especially the delicate pasta and delicious gelato. We never feel rushed, always warmly welcomed…it’s like having a little piece of the best of Italy in our California town.

Friendly atmosphere, joyful staff. The food presentation is beautiful and the dishes comprised of fresh ingredients, house-made pastas, all delicious. My food was delicious however my husbands steak not so great and the meatballs had a strange flavor. Or saying it’s bad just wasn’t for us. The waitress was nice but the service could have been better. She was carrying on a conversation with another table and we did a lot of sitting and waiting when we needed service. If I ever go back I would definitely want a table in the front as it seemed that was where her attention was focused. I definitely would drop in for a gelato. The salted caramel was delicious.

This is a small venue and from the outside looks more like a small bakery or coffee shop. table cloths would give the place some warmth and coziness. The glass of Italian red wine was delicious. We shared a beet salad that was sad and uninteresting and the lettuce was the standard mix out of a bag ☹️. My friend and I thought the beets were canned and had no flavor. The bowl of homemade gnocchi was excellent. Fresh pillows of gnocchi sautéed in butter and sage. Garnish with a little extra fresh sage next time please. I would go back but hopefully more fresh vegetable and salad items will be offered.
