Inspired by Italy’s aperitivo hour, when public squares and streets are filled with lively conversation, Portico serves handmade and authentic Italian fare in Sebastopol in western Sonoma County.

A portico is a colonnade or covered walkway in classical architecture. Since the middle ages the elegant porticos of Bologna, Italy have a meeting place for the public as well as a place for business. Paolo Pedrinazzi (who is from Bologna) and Kat Escamilla, owners of the new Portico trattoria , bring this experience to Sebastopol. They even have monthly Regional dinner parties with live jazz.

The setting includes an Italian fountain on their cozy patio. Portico offers light table service and counter ordering. Excellent Italian wines are sold in the restaurant at retail pricing; refreshingly unpretentious. The menu features an array of antipasti, handmade egg pasta, gluten free risottos, Bolognese lasagna, tiramisu, and baked goods . A market in the front is stocked with take-n-bake entrees

Homemade pasta was excellent with Greek olives and spicy sausage. The Mediterranean salad that was delicious with a simple set of ingredients and perfect dressing. The Romana flatbread with Burrata Prosciutto and Arugula was outstanding. The family staff/ owners were friendly, gracious and clearly knew the style from their Bolognese roots. We will be back.

Portico is one of our favorite restaurants! We are always so happy to see Kat and Paolo. The mortadella and stracchino cheese is amazing. The pappardelle and prosciutto and peas is our go to. Wine is fabulous as well as meeting new friends.

They honored our reservation time. Nice selection of dishes to select from including a variety of starters. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine with our meal. Had the chicken breast in a lemon sauce with artichokes & roasted vegetables. Also enjoyed the bolognese lasagna which was a generous amount of food. Both dishes were excellent! A nice assortment of desserts to choose from too. You can dine inside or outside. Would recommend for a casual dinner.

I was up from San Francisco to see Glen Phillips at the Hopmonk and took in the Healdsburg Food and Wine Festival that night so my expectations were moderate for Portico but they were immensely exceeded. It was definitely authentic comfort food and surprised me in the overall experience. That ambiance, flavor and generally great evening were very much due to Francesca's genuine, warm, and detailed presentation from the menu and the kitchen. Her service was friendly, gregarious, and demonstrated both an in depth knowledge of the food, its origin, and the goals and preparation intended by Portico's owners. She made each dish more special with her insight and willingness to change things up so that a single diner like myself would have a fulfilling experience and be able to taste more of what Portico has to offer. Francesca and Portico exceeded my expectations!

Loved everything about this place. My only complaint is that there aren’t any fish dishes on the menu, but I knew that ahead of time and still loved it all. One of the best lasagne I have ever had.
