    Such a terrible dining experience. We arrived on time for our 7:15 reservation for two people. First round of drinks didn’t arrive to our table until 7:52. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all. Maybe a total of 4 tables in the entire restaurant, and a second server was working. All night we kept having to remind our server of things we ordered because he kept coming back to the table empty handed, or just standing and staring at us from a distance. There was only two of us, it wasn’t like we had a giant table full of people. Server told us that this was the last night of dinner service because the restaurant is permanently closing for dinner. Not shocked. Sucks because this restaurant is in the HEART of downtown Grand Rapids. We were there on a Saturday night and it was obviously not busy (for how busy the streets outside, parking were). No music playing in the dining area. It was so awkward. Worst dining experience I have ever witnessed.

    Apparently it was their last night? We waited a half hour with a reservation to get service after getting water and nothing. We left and went somewhere else. I’m guessing this is why they had to close.

    Menu is much smaller than on Open Table. There was nothing we wanted left on their menu. Had drinks and crab/corn hush puppies…need to just be called hush puppies because there is as barely any crab in them! Skipped having dinner,…left and went somewhere else . Very disappointing

    We were sat and we never had a single person come to our table. After 15 mins we left. No one even noticed. Such a bummer.

    This was my second time eating at Portico and I was displeased. Ironically, we had the same server as the first time. The first time it was like, "Brand new restaurant, let's give her the benefit of the doubt." This second visit was almost one year to the day later, though, and she had not improved much. We honestly did not know, though, whether it was her fault or the overall restaurant experience. When we walked in it seemed pretty quiet. There was a group of people standing toward the front of the restaurant and it appeared they were all together - like, Art Prize attendees or people leaving a conference at the same time or something. They were just standing around, chatting. We were seated and we immediately placed food and drink orders because we were in a hurry. We were sitting directly across from the bar. I watched as the bartender made two of our drinks and sat them on a serving tray, to wait for our server to pick them up. But, then, the group of people who were meandering around, came over and placed drink orders and instead of making our third drink, the bartender waited on all of them... And, our tray sat there and sat there... The other two people at my table had their backs to the bar and wondered aloud where our drinks were. I said, "Two of them are right there; but the third has not been made and the bartender is now taking six other people's order." I watched as servers continued to walk past our drinks, paying them no attention... And, our actual server was nowhere to be seen. I think she may have had one more table other than us - but she was incognito. The bartender finished with the group of people and then did nothing. Eventually, our server came out and picked up the two drinks off the bar and whispered something to the bartender. She delivered our drinks and said, "The bartender is still working on that last drink." It was bourbon and soda. Like, it took her two seconds to make it. This annoyed all of us. We ate quickly and left quickly.

    Or server Liz did an excellent job. She knew the menu well and was able to make excellent suggestions for the table, as you seemed to be out of a number of menu items. While the food was good, it took FOREVER to get our meal. Our reservation was at 5:30 as we had a 7:00 concert at the Van Andel. We did not leave the restaurant until close to 8:00, because we were waiting on our meals. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the food was good and Liz did a great job but it took WAY too long!!

    Our waitress was friendly and really nice but it did not seem like she had any help. It took 25 minutes for us to be greeted at the table and given water.

    The restaurant was not busy, but still seemed understaffed with only a single server/bartender. She had a great attitude, and kept up as best she could. They were out of ginger beer, which seemed very strange generally, and even more so for a bar going into a weekend. The food was very good, but typically overpriced, as it was in a hotel.
