    Such a terrible dining experience. We arrived on time for our 7:15 reservation for two people. First round of drinks didn’t arrive to our table until 7:52. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all. Maybe a total of 4 tables in the entire restaurant, and a second server was working. All night we kept having to remind our server of things we ordered because he kept coming back to the table empty handed, or just standing and staring at us from a distance. There was only two of us, it wasn’t like we had a giant table full of people. Server told us that this was the last night of dinner service because the restaurant is permanently closing for dinner. Not shocked. Sucks because this restaurant is in the HEART of downtown Grand Rapids. We were there on a Saturday night and it was obviously not busy (for how busy the streets outside, parking were). No music playing in the dining area. It was so awkward. Worst dining experience I have ever witnessed.

    Apparently it was their last night? We waited a half hour with a reservation to get service after getting water and nothing. We left and went somewhere else. I’m guessing this is why they had to close.

    Menu is much smaller than on Open Table. There was nothing we wanted left on their menu. Had drinks and crab/corn hush puppies…need to just be called hush puppies because there is as barely any crab in them! Skipped having dinner,…left and went somewhere else . Very disappointing

    This was my second time eating at Portico and I was displeased. Ironically, we had the same server as the first time. The first time it was like, "Brand new restaurant, let's give her the benefit of the doubt." This second visit was almost one year to the day later, though, and she had not improved much. We honestly did not know, though, whether it was her fault or the overall restaurant experience. When we walked in it seemed pretty quiet. There was a group of people standing toward the front of the restaurant and it appeared they were all together - like, Art Prize attendees or people leaving a conference at the same time or something. They were just standing around, chatting. We were seated and we immediately placed food and drink orders because we were in a hurry. We were sitting directly across from the bar. I watched as the bartender made two of our drinks and sat them on a serving tray, to wait for our server to pick them up. But, then, the group of people who were meandering around, came over and placed drink orders and instead of making our third drink, the bartender waited on all of them... And, our tray sat there and sat there... The other two people at my table had their backs to the bar and wondered aloud where our drinks were. I said, "Two of them are right there; but the third has not been made and the bartender is now taking six other people's order." I watched as servers continued to walk past our drinks, paying them no attention... And, our actual server was nowhere to be seen. I think she may have had one more table other than us - but she was incognito. The bartender finished with the group of people and then did nothing. Eventually, our server came out and picked up the two drinks off the bar and whispered something to the bartender. She delivered our drinks and said, "The bartender is still working on that last drink." It was bourbon and soda. Like, it took her two seconds to make it. This annoyed all of us. We ate quickly and left quickly.

    Or server Liz did an excellent job. She knew the menu well and was able to make excellent suggestions for the table, as you seemed to be out of a number of menu items. While the food was good, it took FOREVER to get our meal. Our reservation was at 5:30 as we had a 7:00 concert at the Van Andel. We did not leave the restaurant until close to 8:00, because we were waiting on our meals. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the food was good and Liz did a great job but it took WAY too long!!

    Our waitress was friendly and really nice but it did not seem like she had any help. It took 25 minutes for us to be greeted at the table and given water.

    The restaurant was not busy, but still seemed understaffed with only a single server/bartender. She had a great attitude, and kept up as best she could. They were out of ginger beer, which seemed very strange generally, and even more so for a bar going into a weekend. The food was very good, but typically overpriced, as it was in a hotel.

    The restaurant was not very busy at 8 o’clock on a Friday. We were seated promptly, ordered drinks and our meals. The food arrived promptly and was delicious even though the beef tips were over what I would consider medium, not the medium rare I had ordered. It took a second request to get our cocktails because the bartender didn’t know how to make an Aeperol spritz. He still doesn’t, and we were charged $14! My dining companion requested more ketchup for her very good French fries. It took a second request to get it and the restaurant was practically empty. The food was delicious; it deserved better.

    Made a reservation a month in advance for my husband’s birthday via open table. Showed up and they had changed their hours and they were no longer even open on the day we were there. Very disappointed and had to find a place at a bar to eat dinner since we had already hired a babysitter.

    The menu on open table and the actual menu are different. Be sure to look ahead of time. The food was good, but the restaurant menu was much smaller than I anticipated.

    Went during happy hour to get the espresso martinis and they were delicious! We ordered the Brussels to start and a couple flatbreads. The Brussels had great flavor just wish they had been crispy. We had the chef special flat bread that had Mac & cheese on it and it was amazing. The other flatbread we had was okay but the prosciutto tasted a little off.

    Took my dear sister here for her 40th birthday and it was a wonderful experience! Our server was outstanding. The food and drinks were amazing! Highly recommend!

    Went here for dinner and happy hour. The happy hour deals are amazing! The food was also delicious and we were even brought an amouse-bouche at the beginning. So fancy! Loved it there and will definitely be going back!

    The food was okay but not worth the price. Our waiter would disappear for long periods of time. I would say we spent 1 hour eating and 1 hour just waiting around for our waiter. We didn't get water refills and 1 of our dish came out cold. I wouldn't come again but i blame our bad experience on the waiter more than the restaurant.

    Portico was such a refreshing spot to enjoy a dinner on a warm night in Grand Rapids. Our server was delightful and all of our food selections were beautifully presented and delicious. Kudos to the entire team at Portico!

    I have to admit, I honestly can't rate the food, as I had to walk out of this restaurant after 45 minutes on no service. Never in all my time on Open Table, had I experienced as abysmal level of customer service as I experienced here. I know it is in a hotel, so my review doesn't really matter. But my only way of describing this experience is as "complete disregard." I have been around the block a few times, and after 171 Open Table reservations, I would say that this one was on the bottom. No consideration, no concern for the customer. Take may advice: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!

    Went for a celebration of a college graduation. It was good food (a little bit overpriced) but very good overall. The staff was incredible and overall we were pleased!

    This is a restaurant that is definitely not rushing you out the door, but service almost too slow. Food was delicious. My drink was $17 and basically only 4 sips🥴. It was good but for a one time experience.

    One of the best meals I have ever had! I had the smoked turkey and polenta ravioli and it was out of this world! The chef even came around and asked how are meal was. I always love when they take the time to do that! Can't wait to go back

    The food was FANTASTIC, loved the whole experience, except we had very slow service. With staffing being a challenge right now, this is understandable, but everything was slow to arrive, even a simple glass of wine. Overall, we had a great night, and will try it again.

    My boyfriend and I came in for the first time tonight and we left feeling pretty disappointed with our overall experience. We should have know right away what we might be in for given that we came at prime dinner time and the place was empty. Our server, Liz, was great! She was very knowledgeable with the menu descriptions and she made several recommendations for us. This would be a 5 star review if we only experienced the service and not the mediocre food. We started with the first bite, a small broth with vegetables and wild rice. The rice was so hard it crunched in our teeth, we didn’t finish it for fear of actually breaking a crown. The small cocktail that went with it was very good, and the drinks we ordered later on were good as well. For apps we chose the bread board and the hushpuppies. The bread board was boring, the grain bread should have been toasted to bring out the flavor and the spreads and oil that went with it lacked flavor. The hushpuppies were decent, but they were sold to us as being a dish with some heat and sadly they ended up just being sweet without a balanced heat element. Our entree course, the Walleye and the Polenta Raviolis were by far the worst part of our experience. My walleye was not seasoned, it was not properly de-boned, and the quinoa on the plate was undercooked and dry. My boyfriend’s Raviolis were under seasoned, drowned in a flavorless sauce, and finished with a pointless finishing oil that added a greasy texture to what should be a velvet-like béchamel sauce. Also, his dish was labeled as Smoked Turkey Polenta Raviolis on the menu and we saw maybe 2 shreds of Turkey in the whole plate and that was it. Very very disappointing, you might as well skip the Turkey and just sell this as a vegetarian dish. Dessert was lackluster, sweet potato and cherries don’t go well together and having them both on the plate was confusing and made the dish syrupy sweet. Won’t be back, wouldn’t recommend.

    Food was ok, felt it lacked a bot of seasoning. The hush puppies were fantastic but we waiting 45 minutes to get them. Our server was pleasant but defiantly in the weeds.

    We enjoyed the chef’s amuse and pre-dinner drink! Our charcuterie board was delicious. The restaurant was extremely busy with a pre-concert crowd. There was a mix-up in the kitchen and our second course was delayed. Liz, our cheerful server, and the manager quickly were at our table to rectify the situation. We look forward to returning and experiencing more of the menu.
