Porters in Medford, Oregon is located in a lovingly restored brick railway depot which still boasts many of its original features, like the passenger ticket counter which now forms the center portion of the interior bar. Porters is a great place to socialize, with an extensive list of beers, wines and spirits along with hand crafted "martoonis." The "Get Giddy" menu, featuring a variety of light offerings, is available only in the bar or on the bar patio. One patio is smoke free, while on the other you can enjoy a fine cigar from the restaurant's humidor.



A full menu is available in the dining room. Starters include flash fried Brussels sprouts, chef's savory cheesecake and poached prawn cocktail as well as other tempting offerings. For your entrée, try the Columbia River Steelhead, Grilled Pork Tenderloin or Filet Mignon. Vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options are also available at Porters.

We had an excellent dinner for our parting celebration. We were early so had a very quiet area at first, but as the crowds arrived we could barely hear each other. That was the cost of being in an older building designed for another purpose. That factor made the ambiance an excellent backdrop to our meal.
Overall this is a fine restaurant (perhaps the finest in Medford) with superb food, attentive service at all stations, and all at a reasonable price.

Wow, we were pleasantly surprised, at first blush Porters seems like just your average steak house, but every bit of food was perfectly executed by the kitchen. Service staff was friendly but seemed mismatched to the quality of food coming out of the kitchen. The duck breast and filet mignon were some of the best we have ever eaten while dining out. Wine list was pretty good, surprised us to see so much California wine on a restaurant in the midst of all that Rogue Valley and Oregon State has to offer.

For the dinner to be as expensive a it was, one would think the service would be great however it wasn't. on several occasion i had to ask for my servers attention.

Halibut was excellent but just a tad under cooked. I like my fish rare but raw it was. Had to send it back.
Ahi is excellent but it wasn’t on the menu. Probably out of season. One of our favorite Medford restaurants.

We have been here a couple of times and really enjoyed it. Tonight the experience in the bar before
Dinner was fine. We showed up for our reservation...which they couldn’t find ... and prompted tried to seat us in an area of pure chaos. Our dinners were marginal. Hubby’s fine (salad w steelhead) mine Fuitti de Mare truly marginal, a new “cook” now chef could have done a better job. Not a hard entree. Bland. Tasteless. On the other hand the Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc was good.

Service was poor. Took a long time. Food quality was not great either. They were out of a few of their main dish items on a Friday night. Lighting kept flickering like an old house. Meat wasn’t very good cooked well. Over cooked a medium rare steak. Shrimp were small and not very tasty. Tasted like they thawed them in the microwave.

It was good overall, but we were really disappointed in the food quality. The steak was well done and the oysters were just not good. I hate to be that person, but the evening we went it seemed extremely overrated. I would try again another time though.

We had the halibut dinner. The halibut was excellent but the accompanying potatoes and green beans were awful. I am surprised Porter's would serve something like that.

Our table was small and the area quiet. Just what we wanted. The service was attentive and friendly. Food was very good although my steelhead was a bit dry and lentils a little crispy. Dessert was excellent-lemon marionberry tart and because it was my friend's birthday, it was on the house.

My friend and I went to Porter's for her birthday. I made reservations a few days earlier, and as always, Porter's EXCELLED. Porter's is our favorite go-to after work, so it made sense to celebrate her birthday there. Service was unparalleled; the drinks were original and generous; she had the night's special of scallops and I had the pork tenderloin. Both were superb! Since it was her birthday, Porter's treated us to dessert and the creme brulee and bread pudding were excellent! Porter's even left a birthday card on the table for my friend, signed by the staff!!! I love Porter's and have NEVER been disappointed. Friday night was no exception! Thank you Porter's!

4 5 mins. to take our order??? And: Another 45 mins. to be served. 30 mins. to receive 2 drink orders out of 3 - the 3rd. order of Pepsi, was received 45 mins. later, w/o the lime, I requested - it was delivered to our table 15 mins. later. Waiter failed to order 1 Ceasar Salad, & 1 Brussel Sprout Appetizer. When the food finally arrived, 2 out of 4 orders were cold...And, to Top that Off, our server, Craig repeatedly addressed my 67 year old wife, as “Young Lady,” which my Wife found Very Patronizing. Our waiter offered us a Complimentary Dessert, which was also Very Patronizing - an Inadequate Customer Service Response, given our Overall Negative Dining Experience...”Oh, Yeah,” our booth was extremely cramped, and shared a wall with a dishwasher, which the establishment billed as akin to an Old Time Railroad Car - and, if we didn’t feel that it was a Charming Feature, we could be alternately seated - Excepting that the restaurant was packed, and there was no other seating available = “5 Strikes & You’re Out!!!”

Loved it all!!!!! Outstanding in every category! I had the halibut and it was probably the best I have ever had! The wine was perfect and the service was second to none! We will return when in the area!

We visited Porters for our anniversary dinner which is also my husband’s birthday. The food was amazing. The server was extremely friendly and attentive. Beautiful restaurant, bar, and patio. We happened to sit in a booth that had “simulated train noise”. It was somewhat annoying but not enough to move seats. There is a sign in the rail car booth that informs you that you can be reseated if it’s bothersome. I’d highly recommend this place for a special occasion.

Decided to go to Porters as it had always been a pretty decent , though fairly expensive place. This time was different. Prices were very high and food did not come up to the old standards. I had what you called Prime prime rib. My wife had the lamb shanks. I ate about six bites of the beef and gave up as it was full of gristle. My wife's lamb was over cooked and dry. The children sitting next to us hollered the entire time we were there. Service was very good. Don't look to see us again as we can get bad food for a whole lot less!

The local pear salad was fresh and well made. The filet mignon and shrimp was excellent and cooked to medium rare as ordered. The prime rib was excellent and medium rare as ordered. The bread pudding was all you could ask for, but I thought the cheesecake was better.

To top it all off the waiter Craig was at the top of his game.

While the service was beyond impeccable, we found the food to be less than stellar for the price with two exceptions: the Mediterranean lamb shank which was superb and the bacon wrapped pork which was succulent and flavorful. These dishes are outstanding and well worth the price. However the steak dishes were overpriced for the quality of the meat and the shrimp was almost an afterthought. The accompanying cauliflower was delicious as was the creme brûlée. Choose wisely and you can have a special night out.

Good service and good selection of Oregon and local wines. Good appetizer and salad. Lamb shank covered with too much "gravy" and a modest amount of meat. Vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, carrots) were non-descript and tasteless. Filet mignon and shrimp plate was OK but, again, vegetables were a noteworthy disappointment. With a final bill of roughly $150., not a memorable dinner.

Found this place via Yelp when looking for a nice place for wife’s birthday. It has great architectural and designer characteristics. Food was very good. Service was excellent on a Thursday evening, even though our waitress (obviously very experienced) had another large group and a couple smaller ones to attend to. The facility has a bit of a high end 1930’s clubby restaurant feel, with some booths with curtains. The bar looked inviting and well stocked. We’ll be back.

Porters is quite the standard for fine dining in The Rogue Valley. Nice ambiance, with many private booths and dark paneling. Dark and comfortable. We had a surprisingly good California Zinfandel. Our party had fish and steak and everyone was delighted with the taste and presentation. President Clinton and Chelsea dined there once during Hillary’s first campaign for President. Quite a claim to fame.

Our favorite is the fillet dinner...it is so tender and delicious. The garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables are wonderful also.

We had an all around great experience at Peerless.

Our knowledgeable waiter helped with our menu selections.
My salmon was a moist filet perfectly prepaired.

Waited 14 years for the right occasion to visit Porters.
Staff were courteous and rather aloof.
Fish was overcooked
Mashed potatoes were thick and fair in taste
Vegetables were tough
Extremely disappointed

Wonderful evening....berny took care of us and she was very attentive and made us feel special. As my husband said, the filet and halibut were 5 star.........hats off to your chef!

We dined on cocktails and appetizers before an engagement at the Craterian. Myron gave great service and the accompaniment with drinks was spot on. We are looking to host friends from out of town soon here

I don’t write reviews often but felt I needed to comment. We arrived at Porters at 6:55 for our 7 pm reservation for four. At 7:25 our table was ready. Ambience was great. Nice relaxing place where you can converse. It was about 10 minutes before we saw anyone to get our drinks ordered. 10 minutes later our drinks arrived and he then took our orders. We decided to order a starter, the artichoke dip. It never showed up and we never once saw our waiter to inquire about it. At 8:30, our meal arrived, an hour and a half after we walked in the door. The fish and chips were good. Our SIL ordered the New York steak and he couldn’t get a knife through it and after spitting out two pieces of steak that he couldn’t chew up enough to swallow, he gave up and we shared our meals with him. We ordered dessert and it was good. We walked out of the restaurant at 9:15. This was our first time at this restaurant and I was not impressed. This may have just been a bad night to go because there are so many good reviews. I will try this place again because next time may be great.
