Porterhouse Ratings and Reviews
Porterhouse is one of our go-to places. The food is good and, frankly, consistent. We went on a Wednesday night and it was busy! This may have been a factor in the less than perfect service. The bartender was our waiter (!). We ordered the Porterhouse for two, and usually the dish is served with a "presentation," but, nope, not this time. Just plopped down by the chef. None of the normal fanfare. We will continue to patronize Porterhouse because of the great food and awsome bread pudding. Note to the wondeful Mr. Ugur, your placemats are showing wear and snagging our sleeves! Time to replace them.
Just did not feel like Turkey this Thanksgiving, even though Porterhouse offered the Traditional fixings. We were in a dry aged beef space and ordered 3rd Ave Club NY Steak and a Cowboy Steak. Prawn Starters with Martini’s. Paired bottle of 2009 Cinnabar Cabernet Alexander Valley with the entree. Restaurant was packed, and service was understandably impacted. The owner’s family all pitched in to handle the crowd.
Maybe it's just me. On a special occasion I tend to expect a special dining experience. Maybe I should just give that up because it seems special occasions (holidays) are exactly when the most experienced restaurant staff gets the evening off. The result is not bad. Just not special.
Amazing steak dinner experience. E celebrate meat and good aides. Yummy appetizers too. Had the poutin and was delicious; shrimp cocktail was succulent. Steaks and chicken entrees of best quality. It’s a good steakhouse! And service was really outstanding. Professional, friendly and well timed. We were never waiting and never rushed.
Only downside - the outside patio type room is very chilly. Would not sit there again - we should have asked to move. So avoid that area if it’s cold out!
We went here for a birthday celebration :) we were greeted upon arrival. The lighting is too low, warmer ambience would be nice to appreciate the plating of the food and the interior of the restaurant. We are served warm sliced French bread and buttercream. We tried crab cake and it was ok.... I order fillet mignon, and I enjoyed it! And the prime rib is good as well! :) the price and quality of the food is great! For all steak lovers this is the place for you! An alternative option of Ruth Chris/Morton’s. Overall, this is a good steakhouse!
This spot never disappoints when it come to their food. On this particular visit though, their staff was overwhelmed by a 50-person group being hosted in their downstairs area. Made for a very noisy/loud experience. Plus they were sold out of prime rib, and in the lengthy time it took to get our orders taken (20 minutes after drinks were delivered) they had sold out of their special (dry aged filet mignon). I’ll come again for sure (best steakhouse I trust in downtown San Mateo), but this score only reflects this visit.
Despite our reservation, we had to wait approximately 30-35 minutes for our table to be ready. We did not get the impression that they cared very much that we had to wait that long. As a matter of fact, after waiting at the bar 15 minutes in, the Manager downed a whole glass of wine before telling us from across the bar that our table would be ready in "2 minutes." 15 minutes later, we packed up our things and started heading towards the door, when low and behold, our table was miraculously ready. Food was nothing to write home about. Service was horrible. Will never go there again. I doubt they even care.
Our first time dining in this restaurant. Upon seating us the waiter brought us the daily menu. I remember seeing their three course prix fix menu and asked. They do have it but unless asked they seem to prefer to offer their daily menu. When comparing the prices I understand why. The prix fix menu is better value for money.
I had the bone in rib eye. My wife had the filet migneon butterflyed. My nephew had the bone in New York. All three steak were outstanding even though the sauce on my ribeye was extremely salty. I told our waiter about but did not insist on returning the steak.
Service was efficiebt and friendly. A gem of a find.
Steaks are all amazing--truly a steak house that knows what they are doing. Twice baked potato that comes with steak not that great. Great wine selection. 3 course Pre Fixe menu a good value considering menu pricing. Wine prices on the high side, but good selection.
The chef was lousing cooking my Cowboy. It was the second time I sent the steak back. I don't think I will eat there anymore for the price they charge for the steak and the way they cooked it. Was very dissappointed for the money you pay for the aged steaks and what you got. They did recook the steak, but it was even more cooked than the first one I wanted, which the first one was cooked more than I wanted. I just ate it and said I won't come back here. At one point it was a treat, but Costco is better. Even Safeway's small steak are better. And cheaper. The hostess was not very pleasant. It's like they think they are entitled for some reason so they can treat customers as peasants. They 're lucky they have a job. Maybe they should fire the chef and get somebody who knows how to cook a steak. My barbecue grill does better. For $220.00 I can buy my own cow.
The waiter was lousy.
Our Fantastic bartender named Tanya who made me the best filthy martini ever and another drink with vodka mint and less sugar hit the spot ‼️
Excellent REAL crab cakes for 3 people (bites)and a fantastic light bread pudding . Next time I'll ask for my meat medium rare 😉I asked for a medium done, my fault.
lol 😂 I loved the place so much I came back the next day with my husband and son and they also loved the drinks👍🏼 My son loved the drink Penicillin lol 😂!! They liked the appetizer polenta with cheese and meat sauce a lot😃We're coming back very soon 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Onion Soup & Prawn Cocktail Starters. Juicy Pork chop and 3rd Ave Club Steak. First paired with a 2000 Gattinara Nebbiolo, which only went with the Pork (Wine needed to be open longer). Paired ½ bottle of 2015 Ridge Geyserville Zin/Carignane/Petite Sirah Blend with the steak.
Loved our salads and dessert - the bread pudding was delicious. Unfortunately the main reason we came to Porterhouse - the steaks - were a bit disappointing. The sauce they put on the steaks was too strong and overpowered my filet. My husband's cowboy steak (which he asked for medium rare) came too rare and then when it was replaced, it was medium. The server was very nice and accommodating, but service was a bit slow.
