The renowned art of dry aging finally arrives in San Mateo, as our new dry aging window is now completed. We are proud to be the only restaurant on the Peninsula (In between San Francisco & San Jose) to have an in-house dry aging facility.
Our new menu featuring these marvelous cuts of beef is now available. Tasting menus featuring these exceptional steaks will also be offered.
To accompany your steak, our Wine List celebrates the acclaimed wines of Napa Valley, Willamette Valley, France and Italy. In addition to our steak and chop offerings, our Chef provides for a daily selection of fresh fish and seafood.

In the mood for the great dry aged beef. 20oz T-Bone & Bone In NY steak cooked exactly the way we like. Asked owner for a good recommendation of wine to pair, he suggested a 2007 Cynthus Cabernet, which complemented the meal perfectly. I really like the extensive wine list at Porterhouse, many with decent age.

The steaks were good but the service staff kept forgetting us. The waiter was surprised that after a long cocktail “hour” we had not been served yet. Vegetables were dry. Wine list by the glass was limited. The acoustics in the “green house”, due to all the glass, means you can hear all the conversations at adjacent tables but not always understand the person opposite you. Some soft surfaces would help. I would recommend asking for the main dining room. Deserts were not remarkable.

Another wonderful dining experience. This time had the TBone & 3rd Ave NY steak and paired a bottle of 2012 Chateau Napa Martin Estate Cabernet. This wine did not have much aroma and did not connect. It was very high in alcohol percent 15%.

I'm certain I had the best steak I've ever had. We shared the Porterhouse for two and it was amazing. The veggies and starters we ordered were also wonderful.

This place is great for a special occasion. Located in a very unassuming location in downtown San Mateo. There is a huge sign on the front of the building, but the restaurant is in a building with other businesses and getting to it isn't completely obvious. The best way I can describe it, is to wander to the back of the building on the street level.

Definitely worth the trip and $. I still remember that steak.

Porterhouse didn't honor my reservation and closed the kitchen one hour early at 9:00 pm, despite having listed hours until 10:00 pm.

Went to Porterhouse for a New Years' Eve dinner, and was impressed by the food and the service. We even were serenaded by a talented and humorous violinist. It is on the pricey side (though, compared to SF restaurants of similar quality, it's mid-priced). The bottom line: We have added this spot to our 'special night out' rotation of restaurants!

The steaks are the best, service always great. The filet is one of the best, and always cooked to requested level. We had all filets, from everything from rare to well done, and we were all pleased. I do have to say the vegetables served were disappointing, they usually have a baked potato, but we were all served a small portion of mashed and a stem of a cauliflower . This was for New Years so hopefully they will go back to a baked potato on a non holiday.

My 12 yrs old daughter wanted to go to a steak house for NYE. A friend recommend the Porterhouse. Made reservations. She loved it. She ate the whole steak. And dessert.

Second visit to Porterhouse. Came here to celebrate a
Birthday. We had a reservation for 7PM, arrived around 6:20 and were immediately seated.

The restaurant was pleasantly quiet with just a soft ambiance level of music and other people talking.

We both ordered steak which was beautifully prepared and the meat fell right off the bone of my 20oz Porterhouse, I was in absolute heaven! He equally enjoyed the Cowboy Steak. We were both a bit disappointed over the “Grilled Prawn” starter for $19.00, as it was basically a shrimp cocktail. The shrimp arrived cold and was plated with what ultimately tasted like standard shrimp cocktail sauce. I would recommend that the “Grilled Prawns” be Prawns and come out warm, to justify a $19 starter.

The evening ended pleasantly with our server bringing out a nice birthday gesture of ice cream and candle to help us celebrate. I was very appreciative of that.

Aside from the starter, this meal & experience was very nice and I do see myself visiting Porterhouse again.

I went there for a Christmas dinner with my daughter who was back from college. This is an excellent steakhouse with great dry-aged steaks and a fabulous wine list. We had filet mignon and a bone-in New York steak, as well as crab cakes. Each of the dishes was delicious, and the service was impeccable. We would definitely consider going back for a special occasion.

Real treat after successful surgery recovery. My sense of smell is back! Prawn Cocktails NY & Cowboy Steaks. Owner paired a bottle of 2012 Dry Creek Vineyard Meritage, excellent accompaniment. Merry Christmas.

It was our first time to Porterhouse on Christmas Day. We had reservations and we were seated right away. Our server was very attentive. The food was excellent and we can't wait to return.

We were seated promptly and service was prompt and courteous, especially considering they were working on a holiday. My husband got his soup hot and before the meal something we have had problems with in other restaurants. Food was good, my prime rib perfect, and attractively presented. All and all a good experience at a place new to us and one we will probably repeat.
