Porter House Bar and Grill Ratings and Reviews
We had the Park View 3-Course Lunch which was not only delicious but was a great value as well. My companion and I both had the root vegetable soup to start. It was creamy, flavorful and served at the perfect temperature. The second course of Petite Filet Mignon with Cabernet Sauce was grilled perfectly. It was juicy and so tender you could cut it with a fork. It was served with creamy mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. For dessert, we had New York Cheesecake and Molten Chocolate Cake and both were excellent. The portions were generous and we were served promptly but were never rushed from the table.
The restaurant is in a perfect location, on the top floor of Columbus circle shops, overlooking Central Park. Very easy to take the subway, a cab, or walk if you are staying on the upper west side. I ordered the lunch special, which was amazing!!! A tender filet mignon, beet salad with just the right combined flavors, and a chocolate lave cake to die for. They also have specialty cocktails and a superb wine list. I also enjoyed going to the shops, right below the restaurant afterward.
Booked the porterhouse for My wife’s 40th birthday surprise trip to NY. Upon arrival we were quickly seated in the Columbus circle as requested which is nice, but there isn’t any views of Central Park as thought, unless You’re right next to the window and at the top side.
Pleasant atmosphere, if a little noisy.
Our waitress introduced herself and asked if we would like ice water or bottled, of which we answered Ice water is fine. This seemed to flick a switch as some kind of indicator as to what tip she would receive and we received nothing but poor service and ice cold feeling from her from then on. Ice water changed to literally "So you want more tap water then?" in a moment, drinks were not even put in front of us or the right way round( I had my wife’s cocktail, my wife had a 4 inch-foamed, half poured beer) the wine menu was taken when I wanted to order, and the menu not explained clearly. She walked pass here and there giving glares and general poor attitude.
The food was outstanding and the lady serving the actual food was super pleasant and helpful, thankfully after a few looks from me the ice queen left us alone. She knew she’d been off and didn’t say a peep until surprise surprise, when we were towards the end of our meal she tried to engage us and make small talk as if to recoup some of the lost tipping mileage....
We really didn’t enjoy the whole meal, didn’t ask for one photo together to commemorate this special occasion, and I would didn’t arrange dessert with candles as anticipated....
Overall, lovely restaurant and steak was outstanding but a considering the cost ($350) a little jumped up for my liking with poor service where it matters and a truly awful, hostile, up her self waitress.. Having Eaten all over the world I find its the little things that matter, and that you receive via good service at high class establishments, and on this occasion, those things were massively overlooked.
Thanks for tainting this special meal for us.
Now I have to add the required number of words....
Maybe my best restaurant dining experience.
Service was excellent. Attentive but not intrusive. Not rushed in anyway.
Somewhat loud. A strong buzz.
Interesting crowd but not crowded.
Bring your wallet.
Consistent quality of food with a varied menu and credible wine list. Atmosphere had a good level of energy while at the same time did not overpower conversation. Easy walk from a number of high-end hotels around the park, which is another reason we have come back on successive visits. Service is very good and not rushed.
The service was outstanding. We got the Prime Rib and it was delicious. The raw bar and black truffle mashed potatoes were delicious as well. The side of sautéed mushrooms was just ok, good flavor, but not really sautéed. The one item that we were disappointed with was the coconut cake, wasn’t the old fashioned layer cake I had imagined from the menu description. Also, 50.00 and 40.00 dollars is a bit much for a glass pour of wine regardless of what year Silver Oak it is.
Overall outstanding food, service and ambiance. We wanted an excellent quality New York steak experience without the heavy dark business atmosphere of some more traditional places. Porter House met that perfectly with very professional staff, devine food and an uplifting ambiance. I split a delicious medium rare porter house with my carnivorous teen son while my vegetarian wife found plenty on the menu to enjoy. As with Per Se which is next door, you have to enter through the downstairs Time Warner center/mall to take the elevator 4 floors up, but it's well worth it once you arrive! I would send anyone here. An overall winner!
Went to celebrate my birthday. Food is very expensive-dinner for two was $700 for appetizers, entree, dessert and liquor. The scallops were amazing although you only get 2 scallops for almost 30 dollars. We shared the Japanese wagyu and i wouldn't get it again. The first few bites were good but then I got a little turned off and I didn't want to finish it. I think I'm just not a steak person but I would have rather had something smaller and less fat content. Dessert was nothing special. The Riesling i had was very good. Overall the service was excellent and the atmosphere was beautiful. I'd go back again, id just try something different.
