Porter House Bar and Grill Ratings and Reviews
Restaurants build their expectations when main course (just the steak) cost from 60 to 70 USD. With the sauce and the size a price at approx 85 to 100 USD.
To be honest, it was good. Some of the sides was not more than intermediate. Spinach had too much taste of megnut, onionrings tasteless. Sauce bernaise, well its not made the way you could expect for the price.
I'd easily do these things better.
Noiselevel is at a level that don't let you have a romantic night out. You just need to keep yelling with the flow.
This restaurant has delicious food. It was perfect for the extra special milestone birthday we were celebrating. My son and husband had the porterhouse for two and the steak was melt in your mouth tender and perfectly seasoned. My salmon over fresh tender perfectly seasoned greens was acceptional. Loved the wine selections. At the end, the New York cheesecake for dessert with its surrounding fresh fruit was outstanding.
I always have a great meal here. I guess gusts why I keep returning. The staff is so friendly and helpful. And the good is always superior. I started with the special butternut squash with hunger & yogurt soup. Delicious. And it hit the spot after walking 8 blocks in the cold wind. The filet with maitre d butter was cooked perfectly, and full of flavor. Of course it cut like butter. The onion rings were crispy. And the sautéed mushrooms were perfection when mixed with the steak. All of this was paired nicely with a glass of Margaux. All in all an excellent meal.
We had a great dinner before the Opera for a birthday celebration. The waitress gave great recommendations, and we enjoyed every course. The staff kept tabs on our plans, and made sure we got to the show on time, but we never felt rushed or like we were missing part of our dining experience.
PLEASE READ -- DO NOT GO HERE FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION. This was an utter disappointment. I brought my wife and my youngest son here for his 19th birthday. Privately, prior to being seated, I told the hostess about his birthday and to bring something out for dessert. I gave his name and she told me that it would be taken care of.
Well, dessert came and went and -- nothing. I didn't say anything so as not to embarrass my wife and son. After paying the $400+ plus check with tip (yes, I did tip the waiter because I did not know if it was his fault), I went over to the hostess and asked to speak with the manager. She sent over the "Wine Director", whatever that title means. He gave me his card and told me to call him and he would do something "special". How can you do something "special" to replace screwing up on my son's birthday. He never asked for my name so I don't think he was so interested doing something "special".
Management should be ashamed of themselves but, candidly, I don't think they really care.
Felt like it was a judgemental place. By the time we were finished with our meal, we had already reached our fourth server. We never knew who to ask/order something from. Paid a lot of money to feel unwelcome. Food was good, but the service makes you not want to go again.
Porter House Bar and Grill is absolutely gorgeous. The food was spectacular. However, our server Max treated us as if we trash. He never told us his name or greeted us until we ask. When my husband asked about the menu he told it was self explanatory and walked away. We watched how he interacted with his other tables who were spending money on bottles of wine and appetizers and it was as if he was a completely different person. He gave them his undivided attention, yet when we tried to ask him anything, even friendly small talk, he was always short and rude. He ruined our entire dinning experience and made us never want to at here again. His assistant Michael treated us better.... He was kind, friendly, and attentive. As a steakhouse Porter House is a great place to enjoy a delicious meal. However we have had better and friendly service at Outback Steakhouse...
Best steak I've ever had bar none. I've been multiple times and it's consistently excellent. The sides are also wonderful, especially the truffle mashed potatoes and roast carrots. The coconut layer cake is astonishing and quite worth running many miles to compensate!
The food was nice but nothing to die for. The exception was the steak which was indeed very good. Unfortunately, the service was spoiled by a waiter swearing in Spanish loud enough for me to hear (hello, this is NY people DO understand Spanish!) and our server jokingly making it known that he would expect the man to pay for the food not the woman (why would he care how my family manages its money?). Expected WAY better service in this price range.
Really great steaks and sides; enjoyed everything. The only minor complaint was dessert - - the plates were absolutely georgous, however we got the chocolate layer cake and it was extremely dry and disappointing. Same for the banana cream pie - - beautiful in appearance, but lacking in flavor. Overall, I would go back in a heartbeat.
We sat in a comfortable booth with a lovely evening view. The service was spot on and all of our food choices were great. The Filet mignon, Porterhouse special, and the Niman Ranch pork chop were all cooked to our specifications and were delicious. The truffle mashed potatoes were delightful but portion was small. Prior to our main choose we enjoyed oysters and the burratta salad, both very good.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable night.
First time at Porter House....was very impressed! Freshest Burrata we've had in NYC....Filet Mignon (huge cut) was done to perfection....buttermilk onion rings and creamed spinach with slab bacon were FANTASTIC.....finished off, with a massive piece,of coconut cake.....definitely recommend!
I had the Lancaster roast chicken which was disappointingly bland. The onion rings were so- so, and the mango sherbet tasted like Haagen Dazs. My friend's vegetable platter though, was delicious!! I should have ordered that. The ambience of this place was really the only thing that was as advertised.
Food was incredible. Service was terrible. Wait staff changed mid dinner, forgot one of our drink orders, had empty water glasses on the table. We finished glasses of wine and waiter or sommelier never asked if we’d like another drink, waiter never came to check on us after food served. Also, first waitress told us she could not put in appetizer order first, had to put in full food order..??!! Again, the food was incredible but the off service made it less than good. For a $500 bill for 3 would choose another restaurant. Also, request not to sit near restroom.
Attentive service excellence. Superb steak. Love the Cowboy Rib steak and the Porterhouse. Have dined at Porterhouse on many occasions and am always wowed by the mouthwatering starters (hamachi crudo, oysters, roasted bone marrow) dry aged beef and perfect sides accompaniments. Hard to order steak at other restaurants after a Porterhouse experience.
Not surprisingly their spaghetti alla chitarra, roast chicken and veal chop are also standouts.
Porterhouse staff are always welcoming and friendly and make luxurious dining a relaxed casual experience. The very professional staff are led by a top notch GM (Alex) and world class chef Michael Lomonaco.
I gave 4 stars for service because I asked for bread and did not get it until I finally got a server. We waited too long for the meal. When we arrived the restaurant was sparsely occupied. We ordered but was not served until the restaurant was crowded and then then all the guests were served at the same time. Because of the delayed service we did not have time for dessert and coffee. We had a 5pm reservation and did not get served until 6:20. The food is outstanding. It can get noisy . Alex, at the entrance, was exceptionally welcoming.
