Sometimes you want experimental, cutting edge and quirky cuisine.
Other times, you want a great cocktail, the freshest oysters and an amazing steak.
The Porter House Bar and Grill is for those times. Classics, perfectly done.
Meat quality is one of the best in town (In the country?). Views are amazing and ambiance is quiet and comfortable. It is ideal for a romantic lunch or dinner or a small group of friends. Service was a little bit "too friendly" for a high end spot.
Porter house was great! Took our son there for his 20th birthday. We all really enjoyed ourselves!
Terrific service, pricey but it’s midtown NYC
Normally don’t do reviews but since you asked...ordered veal chop. Asked for it to be medium. Came out rare, chewy and with way too much fat. Disappointing especially given the cost.
The Porter House is also a perfect address for a good lunch: It tastes great and the portions are appropriate. The soups are excellent (worth a visit for that alone). And the steaks: the best in town.
The service was amazing, waiters were so kind and did such a great job. Food was perfect. Atmosphere was just the vibe I was going for.
Beautiful steak and sides and great view from our seat by the window.
A wonderful experience! Every course was done to perfection and our waiter was excellent!
Wonderful atmosphere, food and the service is second to none. Tim Brown is the best!
High end steak house and quality service. No complaints.
Everything about this place was wonderful. From the food all the way to the service. I will definitely come back and recommend my friends
Very good. Great food and quality. Nice ambience!!!!
Was looking forward to a valentines date. Steak was so dry and bland, needed salt and pepper from table, definitely not worth the price at all. Sides were ok but nothing special. Would not recommend to a friend. Dozens of better steak houses in the area.
Average experience for the hefty price. Food was nothing special
Wonderful experience. Also they were very courteous and tolerant when one person was an hour late.
Lunch Special is great value. My husband and I love Beets Salad & Filet combination! Crab cake was so delicious too.
From beginning to end, a great experience. Food was very, very good and service went above and beyond. Some good value choices on wine list if you look closely. One of my go-tos in NYC.
Wonderful place and experience to enjoy the food and service. Will come back again when visit States.
Steak tartate was amazing. Two scallops for 27 dollars totally not worthy. Porter house steak for two was really good but the sides of spinach and mashed potatoes will need som improvement. Banana cream pie was to die for.
This was the last day of NY Restaurant week, and Porter House offered an excellent luncheon. We both started with a butternut squash soup that was quite delicious. Our entrees were salmon – cooked just as requested – and a superb garganelli bolognese. We were too full to order the optional dessert. Service was outstanding, from sound advice about the menu to rescuing us from an accidental water spill by replacing the affected food. And, of course, dining with a view overlooking Central Park certainly enhanced our experience. (Even when it's not Restaurant Week, their multi-course lunch is exceptional!)
Porter House was overall very good, The steaks, i.e. Porterhouse, strip, filet, and rib were all outstanding. The only item that may have needed some work was the Brooklyn Blackout cake. It was a bit try and not as dark and "fudge-like" as it should have been. The service was excellent and the wine list is very deep and impressive.
We had a large party, so the fact the food took a while to come out was somewhat understandable. The food and wine was wonderful, if a bit pricey.
Main course and appetizers were excellent, deserts were disappointing. Skip them
Oysters were fresh, our steaks were really delicious (super tasty!) and cooked perfectly, our cocktails were excellent, but the dessert fell a bit on our expectations and the mediocre service hence the four stars. The chocolate cake we had was dry and the service was just nothing to rave about, though our waiter was very nice, the service wasn’t something I’d expect from such pricey restaurant. Wasn’t bad, wasn’t great either.
We got a great table by the windows. Food was very good, great porterhouse for two. We picked a great Cabernet which was not cheap. The Italian wine selection was light. Used to be better.
Best steaK in the city
Beautiful setting. Attentive service. Delicious food. Loved the strip steak!
The meal was goog, but compared to other restaurants in NYC nothing especially noteworthy. Service was ok--very fine but not outstanding. It was a bit sterile in terms of atmosphere.
Tuesday, February 4, 2020: Porter House Bar and Grill had numerous lunch specials and their regular menu, but we chose the basic NYC Restaurant Week menu. The room was virtually empty, the service professional if a bit perfunctory. My companion enjoyed his Pea Soup and Faroe Islands Salmon w/ Za'atar Spice Crust. I had the Caesar salad, anchovies were extra ($5.00) and just plopped on the salad, not mixed in the dressing. My main course was pasta /w meat. "People don't like anchovies" the waiter said. Desert would have cost $12 more (each) which is why we walked across Columbus Circle to Grom for ice cream. I know the glories of Porter House since I went for dinner numerous times in the past. Porter House sadly does not embrace Restaurant Week as I would have expected. BTW, no steak on the basic Restaurant Week lunch menu.
Food was Outstanding!
Excellent dining experience!
It was really good experience to have lunch here. The servers are nice and friendly and the food was excellent. I will plan to be back again.
Out waitress was very accommodating to us with a small child. A very enjoyable evening
Great food. Awesome service.
Bring your wallet.
Porter House Bar and Grill is a wonderful dining experience. The food is delicious and perfectly prepared. The service is awesome and the view is amazing. Best steakhouse we’ve eaten in anywhere.
Great food , great service , wonderful owner and great executive chef
All the above
Went for restaurant week lunch, but ended up choosing their everyday 2 course lunch with a petite filet option. Food was delicious and service was quick. I will go back!
We went to Porter House during restaurant week and were very disappointed on their restaurant week menu. Salmon, chicken or pasta is not something expected for a top steak house. We decided to go for the regular menu which was very good. Overall we loved the food but were disappointed on their menu.
