Porter House Bar and Grill

I think is is very expensive , I been in another steak houses with the same quality and lower prices other than that I love the place .
Honestly, it was a very nice restaurant, it’s beautiful and does have windows with a view of Central Park, the service was good, and the wine list is amazing! But the porterhouse steak for two was just ok. It was a little overdone for a medium steak, not evenly cooked, and it tasted like they just sprinkled a little salt on it and grilled it. No seasonings of any kind, no sauce, no butter, nothing at all, but the steak. I was a little disappointed. The grilled shrimp were delicious, and so were the carrots and potatoes we ordered as sides. Overall, I would give the restaurant a 3.5.
We go here regularly, say once a month, and the food is consistently very good even when it is busy.
Both thumbs up. It’s at the higher end of NYC prices but worth it as they deliver on food and service.
Steak was tough (cowboy cut)
Foul stomach afterwards
I'm sure there are 1000 better steak places in the city. I'm from Florida, so I was hoping for an experience you could only get in NY. This was not it.
The ambience was amazing. The food is on the top of the chart. More important, our waitress Denise was amazing.
Birthday dinner. Asked not to be rushed and appetizers brought out immediately. Food was good. Dessert disappointing
Great aged beef and sea foods.
It’s always a treat to dine here st the Porter House!
Tonight I started with the Bone Marrow appetizer, which is served with homemade toasted dark bread and topped with crimini mushrooms, all delicious. For an entree I selected the grilled veal chop, which arrives at the table in a copper pan already sliced and surrounded by roasted vegetables and veal jus. I opted for the onion rings and the sautéed mushrooms as accompaniments. The veal chop was full of flavor and and very tender.
For dessert I had the cheese plate, which consisted of 3 different American cheeses, a cheddar, a blue and a Brie like wedge from California. A perfect ending to a perfect meal! Service was spot on, as always. Can’t wait to return.
Located on the 4th floor of The Time Warner Center is a very good steakhouse. The warm host greets you and you are escorted to the lovely dining room, with fantastic NYC views as your back drop. The ambiance is more upscale, more elegant than most NYC steakhouses. The service was very good, very attentive (until the end of the evening when our server left for the evening and service became virtually nonexistent.) The food is also very good. The chopped salad and Caesar salads were so fresh and tasty. The chopped salad had a myriad of fresh, crunchy vegetables ( beets, carrots, green beans) with radicchio and lettuces in a smooth buttermilk dressing. The steaks were also very good and cooked exactly to your liking. The NY strip was flavorful and done perfectly medium. The filet mignon (ordered well done (don’t ask me why) was butterflied and prepared well done without argument. The hash browns were buttery, toasty deliciousness on a plate and the sautéed spinach was also prepared well. The cocktail and wine lists are extensive, and they are happy to make skinny versions of cocktails.
As satiated as you are after your yummy meal (and you will be too stuffed, you think, to order dessert) ORDER DESSERT. As our humorous server interjected last night
“the coconut cake is worth digging out the stretch pants for.” She was right, it was worth every calorie, with its airy, yet moist cake and scrumptious, but not too sweet, luscious coconut frosting.
Porterhouse Grill is a delightful experience with really good food, a beautiful atmosphere and attentive service. You will eat like a king (and a King’s bank account is required, or, at least a generous expense account) at this top notch NYC steakhouse.
Always outstanding. Im coming back today!
I always enjoy Porter House. The food is very good if a bit pricey. But the location drives the prices so it goes with the location. Want a great steak with a view of Central Park? You can get it here, as well as a delicious martini.
I didn’t love the way the filet was cooked, it was tougher than I expected as well. My hubs got the Porterhouse and said it was great - apps and sides were delicious! So was the cappuccino!
Lunch in NYC in our holidays
Maybe. Disappointed with the service - maybe it was late - but we were finished eating and it was at least 20 minutes before our table was cleared. It was not crazy busy. We never had a manager visit our table - got the feeling since we were not spending a certain amount we were left off the radar. My wife and I had a great experience here about a year ago - however not this time.
it was amazing everything we herd and more will be back thanks and VEAL CHOP WAS CRAZY AWSOME
Best porter steak we ever had!
New Years eve
The food was simply amazing! Especially the stakes, we personally never had a steak cooked that good, it was simply perfect, the staff were extremely friendly and exceptionally eager to help! Best New Year’s Eve dinner ever!!! Thank you so much!
NYE Dinner! Steak was good not the best I have ever eaten. Was underwhelmed by the side items and desserts. Service was marginal in such an upper scale restaurant. I did appreciate the fact there was no NYE price increase or limited menu. I would dine here again.
The Steak is always great here and the atmosphere is festive.
However the service is lacking.
On both visits I waited over 20 minutes to place my order and the waiters did the bare minimum.
The server doling out the bread and water was extremely unfriendly as well. The staff at the front are not very inviting either.
It’s disappointing because I enjoy the food here but for the price they really need a better staff.
One of our favorite go-to restaurants. Food is always delicious. Only negative on this particular trip is that my wife’s filet was a little cold (but cooked perfectly).
The a la carte drove up prices a bit but we both got excellent and generous glasses of wine for $17 a person. Saw people splitting the biggest steaks which is logical. Quality superb.
Except for the atrocious service and cold food this place was absolutely average! Our first waiter took drink orders and half of them arrived. Then Cruella DeVille showed up with this
snapped announcement," I am helping a colleague so let's do the dinner orders." She was colder than the $15 baked potato we got much later. Never saw her again. We had to flag down waiters and send up flares to get service. At these prices I would hope they could do better than the Longhorn Steakhouse in Culman, Alabama. But No. I've never written a review like this.My family has been everywhere and this was one horrible and extremely pricey experience. We'll live but I am sending this along to help save you some trouble. New York City has a 1000 fabulous restaurants. This place ain't one of them. GH
We called a week in advance to make reservations specifically requesting window seating to enjoy the view while in the city. We were told that they would take note of our request but couldn't reserve specific tables or guarantee seating by the window. We arrived an hour earlier, hoping to get our wished table. We registered, asking for the same seating arrangements, we were told the same, they would take note, but not guarantee it will happen. When we were escorted into the restaurant, we asked to be seated at an empty table available by the window where we both could enjoy the city view and were told by the hostess that the table we were asking for had been reserved in advance!!!!!! WHAT????? I explained everything stated above and she just replied that it was reserved in advance and left, with no interest whatsoever in making us feel welcomed and comfortable with our seating assignments.
Then, when ordering our food, I requested an arugula salad, (Just a simple plate of arugula and lemon) and was told that the menu couldn't be modified at all. It is worth explaining that arugula IS part of their menu as accompaniment to meats. Needless to say that dining at this restaurant is not cheap, which we knew. We were expecting amazing service for the price we paid and we didn't get it. It is worth mentioning that we dined at The Modern the night before, a two star Michelin restaurant, and had an amazing experience there.
Needless to say, we will not return to this restaurant again, nor recommend it to anyone asking for dining in NYC.
Ottimo posto per gustare una buonissima steak americana. Prezzi tutto sommato giusti e porzioni molto abbondanti. Servizio ottimo e cordiale.
The food was excellent, our server Max, attended to our needs. The GM stopped at our table and made sure we were happy. Could not have asked for more. I will go back!
This restaurant is on the 4th floor of a mall. It is not what I consider fine dining. It’s a steak house in a mall. The staff are very friendly and accommodating so that’s a plus. This is the type of place you roll into after sightseeing all day and you don’t feel like getting dressed before going out again. Also don’t order the fish it’s terrible.... I was told, well it’s a steakhouse what did you expect?
Family dinner, perfect
Great steak and awesome service. Would recommend for a nice meal
Service was superb and great way to celebrate my birthday!
Excellent beef und good service. Room temperature was a little too low for winter.
Great food, great location
Amazing food and amazing ambience. This year Christmas Eve was perfect.
Even though fine dining can now mean .. sure come in a fleece... the experience is still there if you want it. And the food is outstanding.
For a restaurant that comes with so much hype and a pricey dinner bill I was deeply disappointed in the service and food. To begin I had requested a table by the window when making my reservation (for 2). We did not get a window table, and were told “I don’t think any are available” instead we were seated at a table with a chair on one side and sofa on the other, however the sofa seat was in a position where the restaurant had jammed together two sofa’s and in the crack between had inserted a circular pillow they expected me to sit on. I asked to be moved and they accommodated (not to a window seat). The service was so subpar I don’t even know where to begin, when bread was provided the busboy/bread and water server literally reached across my face and threw down two baguettes onto a small plate. The wine bottle we ordered was poured without a napkin and the server spilled several drops onto the table. The meal was adequate but not nearly worth the price. I don’t have the time to go into the other service issues, let’s just say even if the food was spectacular, it wasn’t, the service was so bad I’d never eat there again. At least at Peter Lugers when you’re treated awfully by the crusty old waiters the steak by far makes up the difference. I have no idea how Porter House obtained such high reviews, maybe they paid off the tasters.
$67 for an 8 oz. fillet? $145 Porterhouse. Do you think the restaurant bothered to even comp my 5 year olds birthday cake? Course not.
Food was great, service is ok although the waiter couldn’t rush us fast enough to order at 7:30 and pushed the specials. Problem with this place and ones like it is they have no soul anymore. It’s all about how much money they can get. Nice evening and the family enjoyed but it will be a long time before we will return. Have no issue paying for great food but I’m not here to fill a hedge funds wallet
