Have gone here multiple tomes, first time gone for lunch and what can we say besides great things! Food is always delicious!
I have visited many steak houses in NYC and elsewhere. I saw a blog review listing Porter house as a great steak location. I work in the area so decided to try the place. The service was far from attentive. Had to ask for water many times over as well as other service requests. The steak was ok. There are far better choices in the area. Wont be coming back to this location. Overall very underwhelmed.
We eat here at least once a month, whether it be at a table or at the bar. We come here for every birthday and anniversary meal. The food is always amazing. The service is usually pretty good (not great, but good). On our last visit, however, the service was poor. The waiter clearly had other priorities that were more important than us. He paid no attention to us, didn't help when my steak was under-cooked, and didn't check up after I received it again until at least ten minutes after it came back out from the kitchen. I prefer my steak cooked medium+, and he was the first waiter I have dealt with at a steakhouse who would not convey that to the kitchen. He said it could only be medium or medium well I chose medium. It came out medium rare.
We never complain to managers, but felt it was important to do so here. The food is always wonderful, but our experience was less than stellar due to the waiter. We will be back, though.
Pre wedding dinner
Meat very tender
We spent a very good time in This restaurant
Not what it used to be, sadly....
We were visiting New York for my wife’s birthday. We had tickets to go to Chicago so I made reservations for the Porter House. In my reservations I stated it was my wife’s birthday and I requested a window table because after reading about it I learned you could see a view of Central Park. We arrived and we seated, we were sat near the windows with a view of the computer and pillar. A gentleman came to the table and asked what we wanted to drink and we told him and had no idea he was actually our waiter, he never said hello or introduced himself at all. I still don’t know what his name was. He ended up getting all of our order at once. There were many waiters around talking and just hanging around. There wasn’t a crowd at all. We ordered a crab cake for an appetizer and it was delicious. We also ordered the porterhouse for two, hash browns and creamed spinach with bacon. Our steak was perfect and the hash browns were delicious as well. The spinach was just okay, it was like cooked spinach and some cream in a bowl with bacon on top, not really the creamed spinach we are used to. Our waiter visited us occasionally mumbling when he checked on us. Never interacted, never asking how we were or what our plans were and still never introducing himself. Nothing was ever mentioned about my wife’s birthday and the manager never visited our table as well. I can promised you that we will never come here again while in New York. Uncle Jacks here is a much much better place to have your special experience.
Not worth the money. Steak was okay, but not great. For the money, I felt like there was nothing spectacular about the meal.
Excellent restaurant. By far the best steakhouse in Manhattan. Tomato and burrata salad is perfect. Filet cooked perfectly. Notable sides. The best by far are the carrots done with thyme. Don’t miss the cookie plate creative and delish!!
Very enjoyable, fabulous food, not great service. Waiter was not attentive to the table.
Great views of Central Park and ambience was very nice inside as well. Seemed to have limited sides in comparison to other steak houses we frequent, but the food was good.
I've been to Porter House many times. This occasion was for my Aunt and Uncle in from St. Louis. The cost of the steaks did not represent the quality that I am used to at Porter House. The waiter was very good, as always, the drinks always made to perfection, the steaks which are very pricey just didn't MEAT the standards I am used to at Porter House. Hope the next time I'll be surprised again as in the past.
Another wonderful prix-fixe lunch at Porterhouse. The food is wonderful, from the bread and butter to the copious serving of Caesar salad to the delicious chicken and fries, to the yummy gelato. We (all three of us) enjoyed it all. Lovely service, lovely view, lovely space. What more could you ask for?
Compliments to Michael for the excellent food, and quality environment with professional service.
The atmosphere is excellent, the food is outstanding ( true reflect of Chef Michael) and the service is professional and very comfortable.
Wie immer sehr gut und alles genauso, wie es sein muss.
We always have a wonderful lunch and porterhouse grill when we are in town visiting. My daughter lives in New York and loves going there with us for lunch. The food is delicious and the service is good view is beautiful and lunch is a very good value. Thank you, we shall return the next time we are in the city
The steak was slightly over cooked, but it was ok.
The service was good except for the the lady led us to the seat.
We asked if there were any seat left on the other side, and she didn’t look happy about us asking.
Another outstanding evening at the Porter House Grill. We were there to celebrate our nephew earning his CPA and starting a new job! The Maitre’D, Tim Brown was, as always, so warm and welcoming! He always makes us feel so special! He even added to our celebration by sending over some amazingly delicious desserts! Thank you, Tim and the Porter House servers and chefs for another wonderful evening!
Best steaks in NY by far! Cowboy steak is amazing
One of the best fillets I have ever had! I was having a hard time deciding between the chili rubbed ribeye and the fillet mignon , so the waiter recommend the best of both: a chili rubbed filet! I was amazing!!! And the black truffle mashed potatoes were out of this world! This is a must try meal!
The service and attention were very bad.
I was celebrating my son’s birthday and it was a very important and special celebration for me and my family.
I made the reservation more than 3 weeks ago and I asked for a table close to the window to see Central Park.
When we arrived there was a table close to the window in front of Central Park but the manager informed me that it was reserved. They gave us a table with no view in front of a building.
The food was good but the service was very poor. They sent us something different than what we asked for and they charged us for things that we did not order.
We chose this restaurant because there were reviews saying that it was one of the finest stake houses in NY and a great place to celebrate a birthday. It’s not true.
I’m very disappointed.
It was a very bad experience.
Overall, I didn’t think the restaurant was worth the money. The appetizers were very good, but the steaks were just below par for a restaurant at this price point. The waiter didn’t even ask how I wanted the steak cooked. I asked for medium rare, and it was cooked to almost well done. I’ve been to many steakhouses, and this was my least favorite and most expensive experiences.
The only good thing was the ambience and the view. Otherwise, service was spotty and the food was average for NYC, below average for an upscale steakhouse.
Always a great experience!
The steaks were amazing! Truly some of the best we have had. We would definitely go back for this and the wine - which was also excellent.
The other items we ordered, cocktail shrimp, Caesar and chopped salads, were extremely okay. The chopped salad was so cold it tasted like it had been frozen. The breads they served were dry and the butter nearly frozen as well.
Order a steak and wine at the bar to do it right!
Food is pricy, but beyond reproach. Can't recommend highly enough. Flawless execution. Our waiter was a tgem. Ask for a window seat.
My husband and I always make it a point to have lunch at the Porter House whenever we come into the city. The Price fix lunch menu is the best value in the city, can't be beat! The ambiance, service, drinks, bread and food are second to none. We love it there. See you next time!
Great service, great server!! Xxxxxxxx. Xxxxxxxxxxx
Absolutely amazing every time we go! Love the energy of the restaurant and love the views
Very disappointing. We’ve been here 10+ times over the last few years. Not certain if management has changed again, but our last experience was as though it was a completely different establishment. Slightly indifferent service, over cooked steak, just a bad night. Too many excellent steakhouses in NYC, no reason to go back to Porterhouse.
La comida excelente y el lugar muy agradable,... El mesero parecía que nos hacia el favor de atendernos...Para nosotros fue como discriminatorio
Chef Michael Lomonaco’s PORTER HOUSE just keeps getting better and better .... No wonder that on an end-of-summer Saturday night while other Manhattan restaurants sat half-empty with their clientele summering in the Hamptons its dining room was packed with boldface names, from TV and film stars to food writers and even a restaurant critic or two. The ambiance (with its stellar view of Central Park), the service, and the food (from appetizers to desserts) are all stellar. Hats off to PORTER HOUSE for their ongoing commitment to excellence, even on a lazy summer night — we’re sure the beautiful young couple who got engaged during our visit greatly appreciated it, too!
We were royally treated. It was a perfect meal and the perfect setting. The staff was attentive and unobtrusive. I've always left with a smile on my face.
Excellent prix-fixe lunch $35. 3 courses. Large portions. Had beet & goat cheese salad, filet mignon, cheesecake with blueberries, all delicious.
I ended up getting very sick from the food after leaving the restaurant.
Porter House was my idea of perfection. Of course the food and ambiance is wonderful but I want to express my gratitude for the exceptional service from the ladies at the front who greeted us upon arrival to the best part Max our server. He was engaging with us and made our dinning experience very memorable. Thank you Max and Porter House since our first visit in 2014 (prime) to our 2018 visit this is now a must stop when in NYC. You won’t be disappointed, enjoy.
Food was good, should be great.
A Brief Explanation of Ratings
I had been here years prior and had a fantastic experience but this time around I can’t say the same.
Our Porterhouse for two was divine, along with the Cognac Peppercorn sauce we had ordered with it.The Creamed Spinach was more of a spinach soup, as it was swimming in cream/milk and the onion rings were mostly unremarkable with occasional over-spiced pieces.
The Service wasn’t abysmal, as the Backwaiters were fantastic. Unfortunately our Server, Donna, was not a pleasure, nearly borderline rude and her steps of service were on Par with a typical Diner Server; minus the gum, and at least a Diner Server checks up on you before your meal is nearly over. Thankfully the Sommelier rescued the evening, by not only taking our non-wine Drink Orders, but serving them, engaging in conversation, and Delivering our Check later in the evening, as our server was mostly engaged in another table clearly with a larger check than ours.
Ultimately, for a Restuarant of this Caliber, I expected more and it seemed as if some basics were forgotten.
Excellent food , excellent atmosphere and excellent service don't think about going just book you won't regret it
