Authenticity is the order of the day with the best meats in town prepared front and centre for all to see on a traditional Parilla (barbecue) and Asado (pit of fire). Both are expertly tended to by Porteño’s very own Goucho, Adan Abrahanowicz (yep, that’s Elvis’ dad) who has been barbecuing in this uniquely Argentinean style since he was old enough to play with fire... and he was an early starter! Just as well considering the slow cooked pig and lamb spend 8 hours splayed out over an ironwood bark fire before they hit your table.

If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I would. It was an amazing night. Full of food, music and hospitality.
Outstanding table service, bar tending, food, music, professionalism and hygiene!

My partner and I shared a meal at Porteno recently. The experience was one of the best I’ve had with dining out. We ate the calamari and bone marrow as entree - the latter was incredible. The sauce with our seafood was also divine, though admittedly I prefer calamari a little less seared. Then the aged rib eye came... Hands down the best steak I’ve ever had. And the accompanying garlic rice was lovely - only wish there had been more! Last, we had the custard flan as a desert and it was impeccable. So bloody yum. Service was great too. Thanks Porteno.

Too overpriced for the portion size and the food. Despite the amazing service didn’t think we got value for money at all. Shame since it was my husbands birthday.

On this occasion my guest and I were seated at the bar which is fine. Our food was a real delight but the waiters need to lift their game. While we may not command the attention of a larger table because we are two dining guests only, having to wait 5 minutes or more to get the attention of a wait staff member to make our first order is unacceptable! Lift your game on quality and promptness of service otherwise people take notice and don’t return.

We had the sirloin, 8h pork, Brussels sprouts, milk flan and chocolate pudding. All stunning, though venue is a bit loud for my taste.

Simply delicious food, every dish was outstanding. Extremely generous servings for our table of 4 with the Chef's banquet special. Excellent wine choices and very friendly, attentive and knowledgable staff. A great atmosphere with matching volume!

It’s with regret to have to leave such a negative review, as we had been looking forward to dining at Porteno for a long time.
Being over 7 months pregnant there were no cushions available to assist me, which surely should be something Porteno should consider having a couple on hand if/when required.

The bone marrow entree simply just tasted of cooked onion, no flavour of the actual marrow was present. The octopus was served cold (not sure if this was intentional) but it also was quite tasteless. Possibly frozen and thawed...certainly not fresh.

While we have no issue paying for high quality meals especially the wagu steak special with chimi churi and roast capsicum that was available, this again came out cold and sat in at least 1/4 cup of oil. The chimi churi was applied sparingly and added no taste to the dish. And It was as though the entire contents of a store bought jar of roast capsicum was poured into the dish and a cold steak lumped on top. It was just really disappointing and no where near the standard that we had heard about, and certainly no value for money at all.
We unfortunately would not return and would not recommend Porteno to others.

Nice looking restaurant. Entries were nice however all mains were very terrible. Short ribs were hard and chewy, asked the waiter n was told that they are meant to be chewy and hard? Then they should have add an note to their menu so the customers are aware of it. Dry aged steak wasn't great either no where near what we had in Argentina.

We did ask for some sparkling water to start with, however when the bill came they have gone ahead and opened 3 bottles of sparkling water without asking if we wanted to open another two bottles.

Great fooda send variety on the banquet menu. We had a group of 4 and the $90 banquet was plenty for us. The meat was so tasty and the veggie dishes were just as amazing. The service was great with a great wine list and drink options.
The desert was really yummy too, cream caramel and churros.

This by far is one of the meals I have every had. The 8hr roast pork was amazing. The Wagu beef special just melted in your mouth. The dessert of the flan, along with the ice cream churro combo was a great way to end a fabulous meal.

Highly recommended for anyone in Sydney.

Our initial waiter was brilliant - very friendly, attentive & knowledgeable.
Overall nice Argentinian food.
Starters were excellent and should have made the full meal from them.
Mains were quite nice but not in the same league as the starters or meals at most premium restaurants.
As good as it was, Porteno charges at the top end but the food is not up there - not good value.
Bill at the end also came with a surcharge (on a week night) - when questioned, the waitress said it assumes I would pay by Amex (which I don't even have) and offered to reduce the bill. Wonder how many guests pay without looking ...

A waiter greeted us and before we had time to check a menu he told us he could recommend a wine depending on what we were after. We thought this was great... until we got the bill. He’d got The most expensive wine on the menu and we ended up paying $27 a glass for a glass of wine. More fool us that we ordered another round without checking the price, but at that cost thought he would have sounded it out. Soured our otherwise pleasant experience at the space

A classy, lively and well run restaurant with awesome service and some great Mendoza Malbec. But if an Argentinian restaurant serves sirloin which is so fatty you have to dump half of it back on your plate then something's badly wrong. If I had ordered the chicken I've no doubt my review would have been glowing.

We found Porteno lived up to all of our expectations . The venue is comfortable and decorated with interesting photographs and collectables around the room. The food was authentic and extremely tasty- we over ordered, but didn’t regret it! There is a really extensive variety of starters, mains and side dishes. The calamari was excellent, the lamb tasted, but the wood fired Coffin Bay Vongole was the stand out dish for us! We were too full for dessert, however the four guys at the table across from us were digging in to the best looking milk flan, chocolate pudding and apple tart. Also we couldn’t fault the service- very attentive and informative. Great night out!

Had been looking forward to dining at Porteño for many years. Travelling from Adelaide. As a table of 2 would have liked to try more than a few of the dishes from the menu but as they were larger serves we only ordered 2 small and one main and could not finish it all.
Over all very nice visit to Porteño

Unfortunately, we cannot recommend Porteno. We were excited to try the Chanchito - pork. Reservation was for 9:30pm. We called ahead at 7:30 to make sure we would be able to try the pork. We were told it couldn't be reserved but "not to worry" there should be some for our dinner reservation. Here comes our first disappointment. When ordering we were told the last plate of pork was just served, and there was no more left ! We ordered wine by the glass and were not shown the bottle. The wine was served behind closed doors. I have not had that experience before. How do we know we were served what we ordered. As for the main, the Bife served with potatoes and sauces, was not a quality dish for the cost, there was nothing fancy, nothing that stood out. Lucky we didn't order the egg on top. For a restaurant soo well known, the dish was lack lustre. The beef was served and not rested, as the juice settled on the plate. We were not asked how we wanted it served, well done etc. More than half the pieces had hard ends of fat/tendon that were not edible. They were too hard. The beef had no BBQ, charcoal, grill flavour whatsoever. As for the tongue served with mash, the mash was almost soup like, too runny for my liking. And the presentation was not appetising with the tongue hidden under vegetables, and it was served in the shape of a tongue - elongated. The dessert - apple pie was not served warm, and could be served with ice-cream or fresh cream. It was very, very sweet, too sweet. The good bits were the provolone entree, dulce de leche flan dessert, the polite and courteous waiters, and the 2 glasses of Pedro Jimenez for the inconvenience of missing out on the pork. Overall, I would not recommend. The quality/value ratio just isn't there.

When I booked Porteno I asked for a nice table for 2 as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. This was confirmed on the phone when I spoke to them too. Unfortunately when my wife and I arrived we were seated at the bar for the meal which I haven't seen a restaurant of this standard do before. I requested a table as had been requested and confirmed however the lady seating us would not change our table. Whilst the food, wine and ambience was superb this seating error from the restaurant ruined this special event for us. We won't be back.

Entres were exceptional, the skirt steak seemed to be something they were trying to get rid of - stick to the Sirloin. Service was great and I couldn't fault the drinks menu.
