Food was just okay. Very limited menu, though I understand that it is a slow time of year at the resort. Music too loud. Lights too bright. Service was exceptionally good!
The food is over priced for the value and taste. There are better restaurants on the resort that are much better.
Mediocre food. Beautiful location.
Dinner: The quality of the food didn’t meet our expectations, specifically when considering the price.
The wine was not good. Disappointing
Breakfast: was good and not too pricey. A better experience than the dinner for sure.
This was our first visit here, as we usually go to the Winery. Great service, food was very good and we loved the atmosphere of casual elegance. We'll return for certain.
My husband and I wanted a romantic dinner out. Given the prices and menu I believed Portals would provide this. The restaurant was loud and just wasn't what I would expect for a restaurant priced as high as this one. The food was good but not amazing. The soup, a curry vegetable, was quite good. The filet was average. The service was also good, our waitress was attentive. Overall just not a great value for price and atmosphere.
From the classic view to the updated menu it’s a wonderful place to dine.
Our server, Elizabeth, was honest, refreshing and properly attentive.
She had great insights and was very helpful.
Beautiful atmosphere. Limited menu. Prices were high for what you got & service was subpar. I would go again but probably not for dinner. Perhaps lunch will be a better experience.
Food was excellent. Ambiance is inviting and comfortable. Chicken dish was amazing. Will definitely recommend.
Food didn’t seem freshly prepared and service while friendly was very slow.
Sadly, it was terrible. They were confused and the food wasn’t right. The server was very nice but the hostess was unkind and annoyed by our presence. We wanted to like this restaurant because it was beautiful and had a lovely view.
Great food - server was awesome and overall great night!
Service was a real challenge. Everything else was good. Server tried to make up for it but was still poor.
We have stayed at Suncadia before and eaten at Portals several times, but this was by far the most disappointing experience. Our expectations should be higher since this is the signature restaurant for this (luxury) resort. First, I think some of the servers cycle through from other positions like Valet so they are not as "in tune" with the menu offerings". Our server on 12/23 recommended the Chili . It was beyond spice-hot, it was nearly inedible and wrecked havoc with tastebuds for the other dishes. Crabcakes were B- due to heavy filling, grilled tenderloin could have used some sort of sauce. The potato sausage soup also lacked character of "sausage".
We also had Christmas Brunch there, and again found the service lacking. First, our guest joining us arrived early, and inquired about going in at Noon, but was told "there were not enough people" (signed in for Noon) to open up service even though the time listed for Christmas dinner was 12- 7. When we asked about getting coffee, my husband was told that coffee was NOT available, but could be obtained at the coffee bar off the lobby. Wrong- another server (not the one assigned) promptly did deliver coffee to all of us. All of us appreciated the variety of the buffet, realizing that eggs were not an option. I think the buffet menu did well by people who are vegan, keto or paleo. Still not a good value for $80.
I have to share that following this, we decided to not stay our 3rd night because we actually did not want to eat there again, and Stovehouse was only slightly better. We are very sorry about this. Our second Christmas stay, and probably our last.
Service was great! Food was pretty good, but definitely has way too much salt!
Slow service. Menu is very blah. Been coming here for years and seems to go more and more downhill as years go on. Totally uninspired menu
It was a fun night. The right amount of light and noise.
Portals has come a long way from where it was. The quality of the food (preparation and presentation) is good and getting better. The service however leaves a lot to be desired. It is not the front line waitstaff. They do a fine job but the problem appears in the hand off of the orders to the kitchen. The last 2 times i have eaten there, the salads, arrived first, followed immediately (well before we had finished) by the appetizers, followed immediately by the entrees. I sent the entrees back and told them to bring them when we were done, which was about 20 minutes later. For such a beautiful spot with a captive affluent customer base, i would think the Resort could get the restaurant right. I understand that there is a new executive chef so i am hopeful he/she can get it right. It needs a lot of work but if it is done right i will be a regular customer. If not i will continue to go to Swiftwater and Orchard and leave Portals for the tourists to waste their money.
Beautiful setting at the resort- the views are exquisite. Would have loved to see more vegetarian options (only vegetarian main was a cheese ravioli), and in general the food was overpriced for the flavor.
Zucchini noodle with salmon was odd at best. Looked like they opened a can of corn, splashed some uncooked zucchini’s and a dry salmon on top. Could no eat it
Wait staff was nice. Food was underwhelming. My husband and I came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we were pretty disappointed. Food and drink were overpriced.
Ordered a tenderloin steak as a dinner entree; was brought a different type of steak (a type I did not care for) and told that they were out of tenderloin. The server never refilled our beverage glasses. Service was poor, price high. Would not go back.
Beautiful setting, food was good. Enjoyed the breakfast there.
The food was terrible. 4 burnt scallops and a risotto that was just cream with no flavor and no rice and 5 green beans. For $36. The service was excellent with very friendly waitress
Server took a long time to bring us water - bread was hard and cold and so was the butter. Suggest whipping the butter.
Husband ordered the burger, medium rare with no tomatoes and a side salad instead of fries.
His burger was well done, had the tomato and came with fries. He took the tomato off and asked the server about the side salad. The side salad was brought out with a lot of tomatoes on it. Server obviously not observant with no attention to detail.
Our service or lack thereof was so bad that we walked out. We sat for 45 minutes and didn’t even have drinks brought to us . It seems like we were forgotten even though we kept asking for service.
The restaurant atmosphere was nice and seating was comfortable. However the food was bland at best. The only thing we were okay with was breakfast options. The menu didn’t have as much options and most of the food we ordered went into trash and I hate throwing food away. Our kids didn’t want to eat anything we ordered, mind you we ordered on 4 separate occasions. Compared to our experience at Portals restaurant a few years back when we loved going there for breakfast, lunch and dinner when we stayed at Suncadia lodge, this time around we just felt like going to any drive thru would have been better. I feel bad saying that but that’s just how disappointed we were with food. The only thing that didn’t disappoint was the view.
Excellent food. Outstanding service. Staff went the extra mile to insure customer comfort.
Excellent food and service
Views are breathtaking and the restaurant was quiet in early evening. Only four items on menu really... pasta, chicken, fish and steak. Three children’s items spaghetti and meatballs, salmon and something else. Husband got the steak which he said was good but had odd mushroom bunch grilled in the side.. I opted for the salmon which was good sized but not really seasoned only dripping in butter over what was supposed to be a potato salad. Potato salad was just sliced and grilled potatoes. My son ordered and liked the children’s salmon with portion practically as big as mine with grilled carrots and mashed potatoes. Dessert options were cheesecake and flourless torte which we passed on. Service was prompt and friendly but menu needs more options.
Because of the October kitchen fire, the menu was very limited. If we had know, we would have not eaten there. The salmon was good, but the baked chicken was dry and bland.
Food was terrible. Chili didn’t taste good and my organic chicken was cold inside of it.
We had a horrible visit. Reservation at 7:15 for four, wife and our friends celebrating 25 years of marriage. We were Seated, there was a table of 10, otherwise no other guests.
Took a while to get bread, and water. Menu had four entree items, chicken, pasta. Rib thing and Salmon. of which I didn’t want any all priced 35-50. Plus I had a late lunch and so I had chili and corn bread as did another in our party. My wife had chicken, the other had the pasta choice. It took 45 minutes to get our food as another large party came in and got their food before we did as did the party of 10 that was there. They were VERY loud. It was hard to carry on a conversation.
We waited to have drinks refilled. They served three of us our dinner and the salad for our fourth, whose entree baked pasta, took another ten minutes. So we were well into our meals when she finally got our food.
The chili was so spicy that we could barely eat it. It was awful. Like they tripled the chili powder. The cornbread was three mini sized like a quarter pieces of bread. We both ate it, didn’t want to make a scene and there was nothing else on the menu...and our wives were eating.
The sever had vanished. We mentioned the spice to the server and they comped is a pice of cheesecake. The manager never came over, no apology. It took us one hour and 45 minutes to be served two entrees and 2 bowls of chili which cost $100.
This is a nice resort, the view was great, but at every level the service was lacking and Portals was the worst. There were a number of better options in town. Save your money and do t go to Portals.
Unfortunately they had a kitchen fire recently, reducing the menu options. The short rib melted in your mouth and the salmon was equally good. However, the temperature of the food when served was not very warm. Also my wife who eats fish and is otherwise vegetarian was very disappointed with the veggie options. Not just at this eatery, but Suncadia in general. They need to try harder in this regard. Service was good and wine / cocktail options were very good.
Portals has always been a favorite at the Suncadia Lodge. I was surprised on this visit by a very abbreviated menu. It turns out they had a kitchen fire in the fall and the kitchen is still on only limited operations. Granted it was lunch on a weekday but the dining room was empty and lonely. At this point, I would not recommend going there without reading the menu first. I had a salad which was fine. My companion ordered a sandwich that had great ingredients (ham, fig, brie) but was served on a sliced baguette with the ham on one side and the other items on the other. There was really no way to get a single bite with all the flavors. I saw another sandwich that was served on thick focaccia so, again, no real way to eat it like a sandwich. The servers were lovely and the ingredients were all delightful. The home made potato chips were addictive. Just a lonely, limited experience right now.
Grossly overpriced for a very mediocre buffet only menu.
Not until kitchen is back and fully functioning. Wish I had the heads up on that. It was like a ghost town and very limited menu.
Our food was tasty but all our entrees came on the cool side. The service was great
