   Every dish is an explosion of flavor. Service is fantastic. It is loud but a nice vibe. The desserts were also amazing. They need to get expresso machine fixed !

   We loved sharing all the beautiful dishes of food, the quality and care that went into cultivating these is very evident. The vegetable dishes were incredible, just wow. Not only was the food amazing, the service from all the staff members from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left was very welcoming and warm and very efficient. Thank you for a great dinner and evening out!

   The family style servings are generous. The pork dumplings were exceptional as well as the arctic char. We all enjoyed the rib eye steak and carrots . Portage's service is pleasant and low key. We have visited Portage several times and will be back.

   20/10 experience here every single time. We live downtown and love all the local restaurants, but Portage is the new favourite for sure. The service and menu really set it apart from everywhere else. It’s a menu that when you read it you wonder how someone came up with these ideas, and when you taste it you’re truly blown away that a cabbage, carrot, or potato dish could possibly be the best thing you’ve ever tasted. All of this comes delivered by service unparalleled by anywhere else. The staff at Portage seem to have been all professionally trained in service. The vibe inside is relaxing and casual, but the service feels like fine dining. I’ve been here probably 20 times and it is consistently reliably this good every time. If you haven’t tried it here, you absolutely must !

    I celebrated my birthday with a trip to St. John's and a visit to Portage. It was well worth it! The food was exceptional - each bite offered the perfect synergy of flavours. The dishes were not overly complicated, which made each component sing. Fresh, seasonal, local and thoughtful. Great service - our server was very helpful. The room was quite noisy when full, and it wasn't easy to carry on a conversation at times, but the brilliant plates of food, the cocktails, and the desserts (omg), more than made up for it. Bravo to Portage!

    We enjoyed the dishes we ordered. Each dish is meant for sharing. There was plenty of food per dish for sharing. Did not know that the menu changes often. We looked at the menu on their site but that was not the menu we were presented with. Disappointed that a couple of items we wanted were not offered that night. They dont update the menu on their site, only the menu on Instagram is updated daily. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.

    Staff and their service was exceptional. It really could not be better. Kitchen nailed all the food. Only criticism was that the tables in our area were very close together. When the waiter was serving the neighbouring table, their back and butt was in our face. Not their fault, just the way the tables were arranged.

    Our first experience at Portage was fantastic! The venue is beautiful and comfortable. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable so we trusted her suggestions and she did not disappoint. The food was delicious - how do you make veggies that appetizing!? The portions and quality was beyond the pricing. We will be returning for sure.

    Portage has an varied menu We enjoyed the pork dumplings with a spicy sauce. Steamed cod with ginger and leek was very fresh. The mango and bakeapple dessert was unique. Service is excellent!

    Celeste, Ross and staff hit it out of the park. Thank you for the excellent meal, we loved how fresh each dish was and the unique flavour profiles were stunning to our taste buds. This was the second meal with our server, who was friendly and kind - and also remembered us! Thanks folks! A++

    Love this restaurant! The food and service are amazing! My only disappointment was feeling exceptionally close to the next table and felt as though we were dining together. Although I love to make new friends lol I would have preferred to have a little more space between myself and the couple beside us. The noise level was very high and as a result it was difficult to carry on a conversation with my partner without speaking quite loud for the next table to hear. I also enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant but unfortunately, because of the noise level and sitting so closely to other couples dining, it took away from the overall feeling. Would definitely recommend and we will be sure to return!

    The food & service was spectacular! We all enjoyed the ‘sharing plates’ setup and ability to share things we probably would not have had a chance to order/try. It was a superb conversation starter! The cod, as I told Ross (head chef), was ‘to-die-for’! Succulent and very tasteful. Our server (Sophie) was outstanding, attentive to our every need. It was a great experience.

    Delicious food, good drinks, friendly staff. Close quarters almost feels a little squishy depending on where you are sat. Sometimes can’t hear staff very well when they’re explaining dishes but love that they do the explanations! Overall enjoyable experience and happy tummy.

    Had a 6pm reservation. The food and drinks were good. We had mussels, pork dumplings and Guinea fowl. All delicious. The waitress was very nice and helpful with the menu. My only complaint was that it was a little cold in the restaurant and other tables around us seemed to think the same. Other than that, great experience.

    Menu is not large but interesting - everything we ordered was delicious and we will go back. Do not be afraid to try something new and if you are unsure - ask the server for suggestions. The pork dumplings and Guinea Fowl (very similar to duck in texture I thought) were delicious. Plates are meant to be shared and the above with 2 veggie sides were more than enough for 2 people.

    Easily one of the best meals we've ever had. From the moment we walked through the doors the service was outstanding and the menu was explained to us in a way that we could plan our meal without leftovers. We had the pork dumplings, carrots, and the ribeye. My husband is adamant about medium rare cooks but we got the ribeye at medium (for me) and it was unbelievable how tasty and tender it was. Bring about to sit and watch the chefs prepare in the Kitchen was like watching an episode of The Bear. Can't wait to go back.

    Food, as always, was amazing. Great portions for sharing and we were pleased to hear they are now offering half portions of their vegetables if you want to try multiple. Highly recommend going if you want an amazing meal and a fun night out.
