Located in the University neighborhood of Seattle since 1997, this original location sets the Portage Bay Cafe mission of local, organic and sustainable fare. From our Crab Cake Benedict to our signature House-Made Challah French Toast, our items are carefully crafted to use the best seasonal and organic ingredients available. Chef Alex and his team create monthly specials to further highlight our food-producing partners.

Portage Bay Cafe on Roosevelt is a large, airy, boisterous space with lots of energy and we have covered outdoor dining all year round. We look forward to serving you soon.

    We have enjoyed Mother’s Day brunch at the Ballard location and now the Roosevelt location. Food was amazing at both. Fresh ingredients, great flavor, perfectly prepared and presented. Service was excellent, friendly staff, and very attentive even on an extremely busy day.

    Portage Bay Cafe was amazing as always! It was packed so definitely recommend having a reservation. We had great service and food was delicious as always! It’s always a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. We are never disappointed and always leave happy. We will be back again and again! Thanks for a great early Mother’s Day brunch!

    This place is fantastic! The food is wonderful and the service is fantastic. As someone who must eat gluten free this place was a little bit of heaven for me. The gluten free bread is amazing! No weird after taste and it’s FLUFFY!! Not crumbly. The Swedish pancakes were phenomenal and the berry bar was excellent! We also ordered egg dishes. Both the goat cheese omelette and Phil’s breakfast were also excellent! I highly recommended. We will be going back!

    Usually very consistent with amazing service and food. This time around the crab was dry, there was a long hair in the drinking water, the server never checked back and the restaurant wasn’t even full. Will still go back to see if this is a one off but have noticed the server staff is getting less and less experienced/didn’t notice herself a long black hair in the water and food that sat under a lamp or was bad to begin with.

    Good was cold. Definitely understaffed. Old time fav but I probably won’t itch to go back.
