We dine at PortaBella every time we visit Caramel. The food, service and restaurant are all amazing. BEST dog friendly dining area small and quaint and they treat all of us like royalty.
Best service and lovely food!
Wonderful food, great service in a very friendly setting. Will definitely go back next time...
Service was fun, food excellent! Great management!
We were looking forward to a great evening. Made the reservation on Open Table. Dropped by earlier in the day to ask if I could modify the reservation. Manager said that there was no record of our reservation. Made a new reservation for 8pm and was promised a specific table. When we arrived at 8pm our table and no other tables were available. Manager said he had made a mistake and had put our reservation for 6:45. He said it would be at least 20 minutes for a table asked us to come back. We left and had a great meal at Dametra's. Next day I received an email from Open Table reminding us we had missed our 7pm reservation...the one the manager said did not exist. Someone else needs to manage the reservations at Portabella's.
Lovely restaurant. Food was good , I gave it 4 Stars. I had pasta with mushrooms and pancheta ... it was enough for 2 people, lots of mushrooms. I started with the crab corn chowder.. it was good ... but not great. Ambiance is lovely and service was perfect. My friend had the sand dabs and said it was delicious. They will play music / guitar if you are celebrating something special.
This small intimate restaurant has a great host, Richard, who was kind enough to give my husband and me free glasses of champagne for our anniversary. I noted the special occasion on all reservations I made to let each restaurant know as we celebrated lunch and dinner for two days, but Richard at PortaBella was the only one who picked up with the gifts of champagne that impressed us, and we very much appreciated the gesture. My husband loved his short ribs and I liked my sand dabs. Nice corner table. Richard made the night all the more special for us. Thank you, Richard!
We were delighted with our dining experience at PortaBella. A very pleasant ambiance, with pleasing music background. My Spanish grilled octopus appetizer and local sand dabs entree were perfectly cooked and presented. My wife's short ribs could not have been more tender and delicious. The entire staff were outgoing, and waitress Adrianna was spot on professional (and a delightful person). Very reasonable prices for this level of food and service. A highlight of our Carmel stay.
The food at PortoBella was fabulous. We loved it all. Unfortunately there was a large group that was finished eating but still drinking and being unbelievably loud were right behind us. They stayed through our entire dinner so it made conversation pretty difficult. I know that's difficult situation for the restaurant but it did affect our experience. But we will return, for sure.
Sweet little neighborhood gem with excellent food and service. I would recommend.
We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the foods here. The service was also very friendly and accommodating.
My husband and I absolutely loved our dining experience at PortaBella! Could not be happier. I was thrilled that the owner of the restaurant personally greeted us and then later came back out to play some beautiful music for two women who were celebrating their birthdays. We will be back to dine there and I'm recommending the restaurant to all my friends. It was a magical, romantic and beautiful experience. Not to mention the food was DELICIOUS!
The steak was undercooked twice so they comped both our meals.
Excellent from start to finish. Quality food at a fair price. Outstanding service!
From the moment we walked in-through when we left the restaurant, if felt like we were regulars. 3 staff members assisted with service and ownership also checked in. With so many options in Carmel, this place stands out with charm, ambiance and stellar service. The food is great too! Fresh, well prepared and with a nod to traditions-as well as an eye to current trend.
The ambiance was so pleasing and our server Ismael and the owner played the guitar and sang beautiful Spanish songs adding to the experience.
We made a reservation but then they made us stand next to a dish rack across from the bar which was awkward because waiters kept passing with food and reaching around us to get dishes off the rack. We stood there for a good 10 or 15 minutes before our table was available. The appetizers and deserts were really good but the main course was, albeit cooked just right, lacked any creativity or originality.
Always great. Never disappointing. Ambiance is wonderful.
We were at Portabella our first night in Carmel and what a great way to start our getaway!
I love the country French decor. Our waiter was so friendly and made the meal so pleasant. The short ribs were delicious. My husband had the chicken and it was delicious as well. I highly recommend this place!
First time and really enjoyed the whole experience. Excellent staff from the door to the table, good wine list and generous portions by the glass, wide-ranging menu and good execution of the plates. Will definately return.
My waiter was not attentive. Table was being cleared before I was finished. Had to ask for desert menu. Ordered it to go but was brought to table. Had to ask a second time to box it up.
Best date night dinner! Food was fabulous and the service outstanding. One of the best Italian finds ever.
I was so impressed by this restaurant! We had five people, a small dog and wanted to find a place with fine food and a great atmosphere that would take us. PortaBella was the place!
The service was so warm and friendly that I felt I had come home to family. We had been stuck in traffic and I called ahead to say that we might be a bit late. They simply said, don’t worry, we will take care of you! The level of hospitality was extraordinary and the service was impeccable.
I can’t say enough about the food. It was amazing, so fresh and delicious. There was just the right variety, with cuisine options from Spain, Italy and France. The price was a great value considering the high quality that you get, and the portions were generous.
The atmosphere on the inside patio was absolutely ideal for the bright and windy day. The other dogs in the restaurant were sweet and well behaved. This all made for a wonderful experience for our family get-together.
PortaBella is my new go-to place for dining in Carmel! Try it. You will not be disappointed.
What a perfect experience! Great food, wine, and fortunate enough to park right on front of it!
great food and service. Nice location. Very friendly staff.
We went for Valentines Day, and were not disappointed!
Great food, great ambiance, and sincerely friendly personal service. Excellent!
The place was full on Valentine's Day evening. Great service. Made to feel special for choosing the restaurant. Will return.
Has a great time, enjoyed the music and food was delicious!
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes.
Quaint restaurant in Carmel with wonderful ambiance and fabulous food. Monetary Sand Dabs are excellent.
Our anniversary celebration at this restaurant was perfect! The staff and the owner treated us like family. The food was delicious.
Really nice experience here. Food was great and service very attentive. Perfect night for outdoor seating.
Great meal, excellent service and location. Very attentive staff and friendly. Highly recommend.
Exceptional service and ambiance
Delicious meal with a great dishes
Enjoyed the restaurant although the owners spent a little too much time coming by our table asking if we needed anything and how everything was. Food was very good except for Caesar salad which was way too fishy for my taste.
Beautiful and romantic setting. Staff was very attentive and inviting. Food, however, was bland and under-seasoned.. Overpriced for the quality.
Cute cozy Carmel restaurant. My food was very bland. Yukon gold potatoes were really Idaho with no butter flavor , pepper or salt. Sand dabs were bland as well and veges were almost raw. My husband enjoyed his pasta carbonara which I thought was pretty standard. Dessert Tart Tatin had a doughy crust. Flavor was great. servings were large. Atmosphere nice. Waiters and staff came by way too much to ask if we liked it, which continually interrupted our conversation. Price ok. Would not go back.
Greeted by owner, engaging and very competent staff, and excellent food!!
The welcome by the owner as you walk in and -Richard- whose main job is to constantly see that everyone is accommodated-sets the tone for this exceptionally friendly staff.
Food presentation was enticing and ambiance— in the back room- relaxing.
When we arrived the noise level was 1 out 10 however a large ‘engagement ‘ party increased the decibels significant. However that didn’t take away from an pleasant anniversary evening.
We will return
