Food and service were very good. The beet salad, pasta dish and short ribs were tasty. Overall, everything was very good, but we noticed there were a few dogs coming in with their owners, which surprised us. We were taken aback by this.
My wife and I celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary at Portabella. it was a great experience! The owner, Fasel, chatted with us extensively, sample some of our fine wine, played the mandolin while another waiter sang and then got us all up to dance in the dining room together. Wonderful!
Everything was perfect! The food was superb and they really know how to make you feel special. Our family of four enjoyed every minute of our dining experience here!
Richard welcomed us warmly and immediately made us feel at home. He noticed that we had a baby on the way, and ensured that we received special treatment and a few congratulatory items that we didn't order. Our service continued to be exceptional and our food was delicious. This "old school" art of personalized hospitality is missing in so many newer concepts, but it truly shines at PortaBella. We look forward to returning soon!
We had the Halibut and it was delicious as was the cheesecake.
We celebrated our anniversary there and everyone made us feel so special. That’s a rare quality these days and it helped make our night even more memorable. The food is fabulous too.
Lovely evening, with lovely food and great staff, enjoyed the music
Owner and manager were outstanding and the food and ambience superb. We would go back in a heartbeat!
Everything was okay but he restaurant lacked cohesiveness in terms of culture, decor. We were expecting something Italian but didn’t get that vibe or any vibe in particular. Seemed like the place was trying hard but hadn’t yet settled on an identity.
Had dinner here on July 3rd. It was very busy, but the food and wait staff were excellent.
Just a really nice comfortable family (I think) owner restaurant. Food was delicious. Very nice personalized service. Really a special place.
Lovely restaurant with fabulous service and food.
Delicious, fantastic food matched with a great experience. Wonderful service!!
Staff were very friendly and attentive
When we first arrived, the service was attentive and good. But it soon fell off. We ordered an expensive bottle of wine and once we had a singe pour for each of us, the waitperson disappeared. Not until I mentioned this to the manager did the service improve. The cream of mushroom soup was my favorite. The Caesar salad was very disappointing. Would I go back? Maybe, but not for another $200 meal. Maybe just for the soup! They could improve the ambience a lot by lowering the overhead "floodlights." Way too bright for a romantic dinner for two.
Wonderful! We had to wait a bit but the owner came around and gave us champagne on the house for our wait...staff was warm and friendly...bread pudding and linguine was excellent!
The restaurant was beautiful and quaint. However, the food was subpar. My soup came with a blue piece of paper in it. The waiter gave me a look and took it away. Very awkward. The whole exchange with the waiter felt weird. However, the worst part of our anniversary dinner was the next day. We were charged 1k for Best Buy on the same card we had used for dinner. And we never use that card. It happened to be a fluke that we used it. I am convinced that somebody at the restaurant swiped our info. So BEWARE when using a credit or debit card.
First time there. Our group ordered Sand Dabs, mushroom risotto and lamb shank. The san dabs and risotto was very good. The lamb was average. Did have the pecan pie and bread pudding for dessert. They were very good. It is definitely on our list of restaurants in the area to dine at.
Everything was delicious. I loved my seafood pasta and cream sauce. Tasted the braised short ribs but they were a bit to rich for me
We used to come here when we had our Sheltie because it's dog-friendly. He passed away at age 16 a few years ago, but now when our daughter visits with her dog we have another excuse to come here. There aren't that many places that have wonderful food and atmosphere AND have a covered sun room where you can dine with your pet. They even bring your dog water and treats.
A group of us dined her on our last night in Monterey, and we were so glad we stopped in Carmel for dinner, especially to PortaBella. From start to finish, the meal and service were exceptional. We ordered wine for the table and our server was very helpful with our selection as we were trying to find a bottle that four people could agree on! We ordered a few appetizers - the carpaccio and the lobster ravioli - which were outstanding. But the pesto that came with the bread service was the star! The table ordered the mushroom risotto, the sanddabs, osso bucco and the parpadelle bolognese. There was not a drop of food left on any of our plates! Somehow we managed to order the creme brulee, too, which was a great way to finish the meal. The ambiance is lovely, and the manager (owner?) stopped by our table throughout the meal to check in on us, too. I would definitely recommend a stop here!
I found this restaurant on Open Table, while vacationing in Carmel. And what a fabulous find it was! We went for dinner on Father’s Day, and were so pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere. We sat at inside, and were given a table in the back room which had a charming curved brick ceiling. I felt like we were back in Europe! Our dinner was excellent, and I highly recommend the fresh sand dabs! The menu has something for everyone, and I can’t wait to go back and try the short ribs, which looked delicious going by our table. We shared dessert, which was a warm pecan pie, so yummy! Thanks for a wonderful dinner, and we look forward to dining there on our next visit to Carmel!
Excellent food and service best in Carmel portions could of been bigger for price but excellent cuisine
Loved this restaurant! The service, cocktails and food was outstanding. Wine pour was substantial, which is rare these days. I only have one complaint: the overhead lighting was too intense over our table. We will be back next time we’re in town.
This is a great place very intimate friendly and service was great. I must also say the food was terrific... sauce , meat dish smooth and tasty.. very fresh seafood... it’s a must place to go and tell your mate how much you love them
They had a covered outdoor patio in the back of the restaurant which was a very nice place to sit. The service was friendly, and attentive. We appreciated that either the manager or owner came to each table to ask about the meal. We loved the Cream of Mushroom soup. The entrée portion size was pretty good, and everything was fresh. Overall a great dining experience, and we would definitely return.
Great food! Lovely ambience in the front of the restaurant. Friendly and smiley service.
Really great find. The staff was really attentive and the food was delicious. 10/10 would definitely recommend.
Wonderful staff. Great food. Lively ambiance.
Amazing food and experience. Great wine menu. Mushroom soup was delicious, large portions.
PortaBella has always been a favorite on our visits to Carmel.
Mussels and beet salad were good.
I was very disappointed with the sand dabs this time. They were very mushy and lacked flavor. The lemon caper sauce was lumpy and didn’t look very appealing. (left it on the plate).
The wait staff were very nice.
And we liked the improvements that have been made to the back/dog friendly room.
Great food, wine and service.
Service and staff very friendly and efficient. Food came a bit fast after ordering, but largely because of large private party. Recommended short ribs as house specialty good but not great. However, pasta carbonara was not good - too much cheese, triple amount of pancetta that should have been, overpowering good pasta and mushrooms combo. Soups excellent. Ambiance great for resort town where people look for 'special' evening.
Excellent food. Terrific friendly but not intrusive service. Really nice atmosphere
We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. The Mgr was very gracious & treated us us champange. The grilled salmon entree was excellent - Too full to have dessert. It was a very pleasant experience.
It was wonderful!!
Charming place; excellent food. Recommend smoked salmon salad, sand dabs, and short ribs.
Great service, delicious meal, and cozy ambiance. Loved it!
