Porta Blu is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner. Our door is open; join us.
The food was awesome! I wanted my guests from Colorado to experience California cuisine. They were very impressed with the quality of the food and service. The chef came out to greet us and make sure everything was good.
Oyster appetizer was tasty. Chocolate mousse was too dense. Waiter was personable and attentive.
Valentine’s Day was a gastronomic delight. From creative cocktails from Jose the bartender to an amazing five course dinner from sous chef Luc Elzayek. This is a local gem that we feel lucky to have found.
We really liked the atmosphere and the bar scene looked good. The food is good, the menu rather limited yet includes, meat, fish, poultry and vegetarian offerings. The 1/2 chicken was very good, worth a repeat visit. The service was slow, it took over 20 minutes to get our drinks, it could be that a larger party our server attended to may have impacted our service. We will definitely give it another go.
My husband and I were treated extremely well by the staff and managers. We are foodies and found the service and quality of cuisine outstanding. The menu is seasonal and the hand crafted cocktails are very creative. This was a treat and we will be coming back for our anniversary and other date nights.
Server, while very friendly and nice, was unable to be timely with anything. Asked for an additional piece of bread as our appetizer order (for 3 people) came with 2 pieces....received with dinner entrees. Asked for butter since they couldn't make the mashed potatoes without garlic....arrived 3/4 of the way through dinner and rock solid cold. Food was fun but nothing special. Shared Appetizer, main dish & glass of wine came to over $70 per person.
Valet is free and cool/app based.
I took a friend for a birthday lunch. I had mentioned this to the restaurant ahead of time and they did bring a dessert at the end of the meal, but it showed up as a $10 charge on my ticket. The waitress forgot to bring the appetizer and brought the entrees instead so we cancelled the appetizers. The salad accompanying both meals was mostly lettuce with large slices of green apples and little else. They do validate the parking with a restaurant meal, but I did not know that and parked in the garage about 1/2 mile down the street. The parking was $5. The total meal for 2 with ice tea was $82 for lunch. Way too much and very little service.
What a disappointment! We knew it would be expensive but wanted to see the new hotel and restaurant. The food and service were extremely mediocre. They were "out of" one of their signature drinks, but put the $18 charge on the bill anyway, instead of the beer that had to be ordered instead. When I realized and called back, the night Manager was very nice and handled the overcharge. Service and drink and food delivery was really slow, and not because the place was busy--it was less than 1/4 full on a Saturday night. The flat bread was not even as good as many you can get from the grocery freezer section. In the Bay Area you've got to be on your best game to open and succeed with a new restaurant. This place needs some major improvements. The best part of the restaurant was the setting and atmosphere.
They need to seriously look at training their staff on their menu and basic customer service. It's a gorgeous place but the cuisine and service ruined it unfortunately.
Great service, lovely patio area and good food. Yummy burgers and salads.
The food was excellent. Our waiter and the wait staff were all very good, attentive but not over bearing.
We enjoyed the dinner overall very much. Everyone was mostly attentive, pleasant and tried really hard to make the evening nice.
The bars needs olives for cocktail drinks. Basic thing....the olives served in the appetizers are too sour for the drinks. I liked my Cosmo but my friend who is an excellent bar critique said it was way too sour.
2 cocktails drinks were served and everyone else waited 20 mins after that for theirs drinks, even the tea
We were not asked if we wanted another cocktail for quite a long time and we would have ordered another but it was too late as the entrees were coming so we ordered a bottle a sav blanc which was good and the waiter recommended. Our wine and tea drinks were not refilled for quite a long time we had to ask.
Bday Dessert was nice.
The lighting was too dim we had to ask for another table light but that went out shortly after they gave it to us and waiters didn’t notice or replace it. We were tired of asking for things so gave up.
All the appetizers we had were great especially the crab cakes, mezz and tomato tapenade.
The tomato soup was boring.
Everyone enjoyed the entrees very much. The chicken, clams, salmon and lamb chops all great.
One of our party did not get his food for 10 mins after we did. Waiter apologized and did make up for it.
Over all the wait staff really tried to make our dinner nice but it seemed a little inexperienced. But explained all the dishes very nicely and was trying really hard just needs more experience.
Oh and the music playing in the restaurant was boring hotel background instrumental music. Need better music.
I think wait staff just needs more experience but they seem to be trying.
Miguel, Fernando and Jill were all fabulous. We will be back!
The restaurant looks nice and the food was OK, but the friendly service was definitely inexperienced. It was relatively expensive, but I will say that the portions were large.
This was our third time dining at Porta Blu. We really enjoy the food and the atmosphere...a well designed venue!
Great food. Porta Blu is brand new and part of the nia hotel, which is an oasis by itself right on 101. This is a great addition to the down town Menlo Park restaurants.
Service was slow, mistakes were made on the meals and it was very pricey. Will probably not return
Location is nice, close to my office building. Service today was a little slow even though the restaurant was not full. One of our lunch entrees was incorrect, so while they brought the correct one, the other person's food was getting cold.
A real find in a beautiful hotel. I will choose this restaurant when I want to impress my friends with a new place to dine.
Four of us had dinner and all of us enjoyed the food very much. Not only was it delicious but it was presented beautifully. Our waitress and the rest of the wait staff were well trained.
Our only complaint was the mandatory valet service that had to be done on your phone. It was a pain and not very well organized.
Really great new restaurant and fun new venue in the Palo Alto Menlo park area. Highly recommend. The service was charming. She as new and everything was excellent. Just some fine tuning is all that is needed. Its a new restaurant after all. Will put this on the list of go to restaurants.
Food was excellent but service was very slow. Not sure if it was a staffing issue or just being a new venue and still trying to iron out the wrinkles! Bar and pool area looked like a fun after work spot.
Free valet parking for first 3 hours.
The hotel and ambiance is beautiful. Wonderful experience. Very high end, thoughtful design. The food offerings were interesting and very tasty. But the kitchen needs to ensure that the food comes out at the right temperature. The soup was delicious but lukewarm. I sent it back. The fries were cold so I didn’t bother to eat them. At this venue this shouldn’t have happened. Will give it another go.
We only had breakfast here. It is a lovely restaurant with a nice patio but you walk in and hope someone notices you as there is no clear entrance or hostess stand. . Some of the servers, unfortunately not ours were very attentive. We had to ask for syrup, cream, sugar, jam and butter.
We had cold brew coffee one morning it was very good, the next it was very watered down. We asked our server and he couldn’t explain why. My husband went to the coffee bar and asked if they had a different batch which they did...why couldn’t the server have been proactive?
Also, very pricey...$50 for breakfast for 2. $5 iced tea and $19 for an omelet with no sides, luckily we had a breakfast voucher which covered a portion. They must think everyone is on an expense account!
The restaurant is just starting, and there was a limited menu (compared to the menu listed on their web page). The food was okay. The chicken tanginess was good, but not unusual.
I ordered a martini and the glass arrived half full. "That's the way we serve it," the waitress said. "That's not the way I like it," I replied. She did agree to fill up the glass, which was nice.
We were a party of 10 for dinner. Our waiter was very nice but service was slow, not that attentive and the food was very mediocre. The patio was perfect and perfect for our group. Restaurant needs to work on the quality of their food and the way it's cooked.
Friendly staff and gorgeous, open air restaurant. Unfortunately, the food was poorly executed. The lamb chops were cooked well done. When it was re-fired, it was perfectly medium rare but ridiculously salty. The accompanying lentils and rice was gritty and hard. It was inedible so I ended up having to order pizza for delivery (I was staying in the hotel).
Our cocktails were very good but the food was just ok. The Mezze platter that we shared was nice, not fabulous. We shared a lamb tagine. Meh. The couscous that came with it desperately needed salt and if they had cooked it in chicken broth (even vegetarian chicken broth) it would have had a bit more flavor.
Our server was very nice and the dining room is quite unique and very pleasant.
I'd go back for a cocktail but would dine elsewhere. I'm afraid the chef needs to perfect his offerings. So sorry.
We were limited to a pricey mother’s day fixed dinner menu which was not mentioned when we made reservations. Good service. Food was just ok.
Overall was great, loved the ambiance but needs improvement on the food and menu choices.
Although the current construction zone surrounding this hotel makes you think you might need a hardhat, once inside, this place is terrific. I had low expectations - hotel dining and all that, but my priors were all set aside. Lunches came with huge, fresh green salad, done with extraordinary care. But my salmon burger was just simply the best version of this I have ever had -- not chopped with filler, but a whole filet, on terrific sourdough. Husband had the chicken kebab, with excellent pita. The service was over the top. We will be back.
Warning: don't be fooled by the aesthetics of this establishment. I am unsure which element here is worse- the food or the service. I am not sure if any spices were used to marinate the chicken as it was extremely bland. A bowl of white rice has more flavor. Furthermore, the meat selection for the lamb was quite awful. They must have bought it from the sale section at Lucky's supermarket, a store that I would never shop at. While we were eating appetizers, we noticed that compliments of the chef were being brought to a table across the room. We inquired about said compliments of the chef and only then were they offered to us. Having to request the items being offered to select guests as compliments is quite appalling to me and classless. I had hoped this establishment would hold itself to high standards of service and offer quality food. I do not recommend this establishment to anyone.
Excellent service. very good ambiance and a beautiful and spacious garden. We love it. For a party of 2, we ordered cauliflower soup of the day, Feta & spinach pie, Portuguese crab cakes, Grilled chicken Kebab, and Porta Blu burger. All were good except the burger, I ordered medium rare and it turned out medium to medium well and the patty was pretty dry. I didn't ask for return and only gave my comment to our server after I paid the bill. He acknowledged it and would deliver my message to the chef to make it better going forward.
Food was a bit hit and miss. Some dishes were good like Jamon flatbread but the crab cakes were tiny. Two little quarter size crab cakes for $17!! And it was a bit too salty. On to the main dish. Manila clams w chorizo was excellent. Chicken kebab was dry and completely under seasoned. Lamb was good. Service was attentive but staff lack training - eg She put our leftover brown bag on the table when we are still waiting for dessert. Appetizer fork was placed in the wrong position relative to main course fork. Waited a long time for serving spoon when we want our main dishes family style, etc. last but not least we marked the reservation as a birthday dinner and no one said anything. Even tho my mother in law was not upset, I was. We ordered cake as dessert hoping they would at least put a candle on it but nope. Hotel was beautiful would love to come back for drinks but will think twice for the restaurant.
They are new and have some kinks to work out. I had a Morrocan chicken dish with couscous. It was plentiful but very dry and thus I didn't eat much of it. The waitstaff was excellent.
Hotel Nia is part of Marriott’s Autograph collection and Porta Blu is a Meditararean restaurant that has just opened a few weeks ago and we were eager to try it. The ambiance is very modern and open and airy with a seamless flow from inside seating to outside seating. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The menu is small and limited especially for vegetarians. We had the mixed platter and a flat bread pizza for a appetizer and then the vegetarian Tajine for the main entree along with with the 4/5 sides that were on the menu. The vegetarian medley came with a couscous that was very bland. Overall the food was disappointing. Maybe the non veg options are better
Am glad we were one of the first to try this restaurant. Valet parking is available (validated) and entry into the Hotel Nia is fascinating. There is sublte artwork and décor everywhere. We were seated immediately at a table just inside the outer courtyard. Very pleasant and they closed the sliding doors when it go cooler. Peter was our server and was amazing. Very professional and personable. He explained several of the wine/drink choices without being pushy. The Crema Catala was very good and the Kentucky Buck was refreshing. The house salad and daily soup were both exceptional. The lamb tagine was very tasty and my wife couldn't finish her portion. The Steak Frites has a wonderful flavor.
Superb service, fun menu, a few start up problems like serving a beautiful hot entree on a cold plate.
