Port Land Grille Ratings and Reviews
A wonderful meal w/ friends. Every dish was exquisite. Can’t recommend the antelope enough — tender, delicious, flavorful w/o gaminess. The branzino was superb — flaky, light, moist, sublime. Tuna was similarly exquisite. Red neck egg rolls always a favorite. The sauce for the shrimp cocktail has just the right punch and true depth of flavor. Found the coconut cake a little dense but use chocolate cheesecake perfect. Service was excellent and the staff responsive to drink requests.
This is our 4th visit here. We went for Valentine’s Day dinner. The hostess was completely frazzled upon arrival. She never even acknowledged me (my husband was parking the car). Finally I moved really close to her podium and after a minute of standing there she kind of acknowledged me. I just chimed in to and said “hi I booked on open table. After that she made it still seem like a process and so complicated. Then another girl actually took over and sat us. It really wasn’t that busy considering it was Valentine’s Day but I don’t know what all of the confusion seemed to be. So once we sat our server was very nice and polite. Took our drink order yada yada yada. We ordered some appetizers and he finally brought some bread. We Ordered the bang bang style Collie flower which we have had before and it was very good so we opted for that again. However this time many of the pieces were actually called in the middle and we finished about half of it and decided we didn’t want to buy into any more cold pieces so we let him take it. We got another appetizer which was a beef dish which was very good. Then we ordered our dinner and waited. And waited andddd waited. Finally came and only mine came. The server told my husband that somebody in the kitchen took his plate and served it to somebody else. And then he offered him a different kind of fish in place of it and my husband felt obligated to take that one so we could at least eat her dinner together and mine not get cold. So he accepted the offer of the grouper... he was highly disappointed. The waiter did check on us and asked... my husband in around about way told him that he was disappointed. The server didn’t acknowledge it but I guess at this point it was water under the bridge. While there the kitchen was nearby and it’s open and there was a “gentleman” back there constantly screaming & swearing at other staff and getting visibly irate. It happens in kitchens but he was in plain view & earshot. Kind of awkward.
As is the custom, The Port Land Grille did not disappoint. I have always found the food delicious and cooked to perfection. The wine list is unbeatable and the service unmatched. We visit this restaurant for at least two special occasions each years as well as a couple of times in between. It is truly special.
First time at the restaurant, won't be the last. Great for special occasions, it was Valentine's Day and my wife's birthday. Our waiter was great, the tempo of the service just right. I had read a review on their coffee rubbed ribeye, so I ordered it and was not disappointed. It was exceptional. As I said, will be back.
First, the food was excellent. One of the best strip steaks I have had in a long time. Better than the last from Ruth Chris. The steak tartar appetizer was fixed perfectly. My wife enjoyed a crab cake , surrounded by baby lima beans and bacon. Different, and tasty. Her filet was tender, but a bit over done. That is the good.
The "Bad". I made a reservation for our 50th wedding anniversary, noted in the reservation. No one acknowledged this, our waitress or the hostess. We told our waitress as we were paying the bill. Poor management. Young men at the kitchen service counter were yelling, and the hostess said they were playing basket ball??? Our waitress was pleasant but not very attentive, but did give a lot of attention to the table of four next to us whom she knew and took time to chat with.
This is an expensive restaurant , but as the name says, it is a grill. Tables and chairs from any old cafe, and decor was lacking.
I would go back for the food, but it is over priced considering the ambiance and service.
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Port Land Grille! To start off, there was delicious bread with a buttery cheesy spread. Then I had the lobster roll slider appetizer. I am from New Hampshire and this was the closest to a real New England lobster roll I have ever had in the south. I just loved it! Both my husband and I had the beef tenderloin, and we both agreed it was one of the best we’ve ever had! I had it with the au poivre sauce which was a perfect combination. The beef was just about the most tender and flavorful I have ever had. And the accompanying sides were delicious as well. I had potatoes lyonnaise, which were crisped to perfection, and roast cauliflower done perfectly. Unfortunately I was so full after that wonderful dinner that I could not even think of eating one of their great looking desserts. I bet they are absolutely yummy! Well, that just means we will have to come back again soon just so I can get the dessert as well! This was just a fabulous dinner from beginning to end. Thank you Port Land Grille. We will be back soon!
The service was not good. We ordered a bottle of wine and they brought us one of a different year and said it was a misprint. The second was the same. The third was finally what was in the menu. The appetizers were delicious. The lamb I ordered was over cooked. Overall was very underwhelmed with the service and food for the cost.
The service was subpar, we were not
made to feel welcome. The server made us feel like we were a “bother” versus a valued customer that the restaurant was trying to win. Maybe if I had a beeper to alert her to our table instead of constantly passing by and not looking in our direction,, things could have been better.
This restaurant was such a pleasant, lovely surprise! The menu is exceptional, lots and lots of appetizers which would be fun to try with a few people to share with. Portions were huge - we split the grilled romaine caesar and both portions came on a platter! Delicious, romantic, great ambiance and our waiter gave the perfect service - very knowledgable and didn't hover but was there when you needed him. Had the coffee rubbed ribeye with duck fat roasted potatoes, haricots verts and peppercorn brandy demi. HIGHLY recommended, steak was perfect and well aged/marbled. Can't say enough good things!
Excellence prepared steaks. I had the 12oz New York Strip and wife enjoyed the 6 oz Filet. The appetizer of Pork Belly and Sweet Potato was wonderfully tasty and large enough to share. As suggested by our waitress, the salads are large enough to share and our delicious wedge salad was so large that one did not realize that you were sharing. The steaks come with one side option of potato choice. We had the twice baked potatoes and the duck fried sliced potatoes Each side comes with a very rich and tasty sauce that is served on top of the steak. If we had read the menu description closer, we would have realized this and would have prefer the sauce to be on the side. This is not a criticism but a personal preference because of the very rich taste of the sauce.
The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. One can tell that this restaurant stresses the up most customer service as all staff was helping each other regardless of their assigned table. Also, all staff was in quick step.
We enjoyed our dining experience and will certainly return with friends.
Whenever my husband and I are in the area, we like to dine at Port Land Grill. I absolutely love the Red-neck eggrolls, and my husband adores the steaks. This latest visit, there seemed to be a hiccup with our reservations (which were made and confirmed via OpenTable) plus they were swamped with walk-ins, so rather than be seated in the dining room, they put us in an overflow/special events space with a few other patrons. The ambience was not as nice, but the service and food was great. The coconut cake is not to be missed. We were stuffed, but we ordered it anyway and took it home with us to enjoy with our coffee next morning.
My husband Tim and I definitely found our favorite Wilmington Restaurant. Port Land Grille was everything we'd heard it was. Charming, elegant yet casual? How did they accomplish both?! The food was incredible, the service impeccable! We're looking forward to going back soon!
My Mom and Sister joined me for a New Year's Eve dinner at Port Land. It was our first time and it was not a disappointment. The food was beautifully presented and prepared to perfection, service was friendly and warm, and the overall ambiance of the restaurant was just our style.....fashionable but not stuffy....nice and cozy. We can't wait to come back in the Spring and Summer!
We were celebrating a birthday and it was our first visit. The service was delightful, attentive. Food was excellent, 3 had steaks and one had the duck and all were perfect. Only downfall was dessert. The lava cake was very small and the coconut cake was very dry. Will still recommend and will plan on another visit for a special occasion! Might suggest to pastry chef to have creme brûlée in regular custard flavor as well as season taste.
I can't say enough about the food at Port Land, exceptional! We had a bit of everything, steak, grilled chicken and I had the enormous grilled pork chop with the most wonderful vegetables I have ever tasted, collards and sweet potatoes like I've never had before, truly memorable. Service was ok, our wait person was a helicopter and asked 4 times if she could take our orders. Diners don't like hovering wait staff. I highly recommend trying Port Land Grille, you won't be disappointed.
