Afternoon Coffee
The Port Bistro and Pub, located in the heart of Port Jefferson, NY is a family friendly restaurant that serves classic dishes and specializes in old world authentic foods and recipes. The tap and bottled beer and wine selections rival any restaurant on Long Island. Owners Bob Nyholm, Chris Nyholm and Palma DiVito have decades of experience in the food industry. And endeavor to offer a casual, enjoyable dining experience for lunch and dinner every day of the week. The restaurant’s dining room and bar now occupy the former home of Port Jefferson’s Original Elks’ Hotel dating back to the 1930’s. Port’s Chef focuses on the farm to table concept, using organic and all fresh ingredients when creating the regularly changing menus. Daily fresh fish dishes are a staple, too. Old World Authentic dishes, from fresh pastas to desserts are inspired by traditional recipes of the owners’ and chef’s ancestors from Greece, Germany, Southern Italy and other European regions.

We had dinner at the Port Bistro. The server was excellent and the drinks came quickly. The food although good, took a very long time, over an hour. The server kept us apprised of the order, and checked on us many times but the delay was do to the kitchen. I feel it would have been appropriate for someone in management to check and explain the delay. The order we placed was not complicated or difficult to make. The noise level is also on the loud side.

Owner was most accommodating as I had a Groupon that was still current. However, she explained that Groupon had removed this offer and should have return to me what I paid for it. I explained that never happened and she honored the coupon. Super customer service!

I had the tuna with seaweed salad and it was perfect. I would order it again. Companion had chicken sliders that were so-so, never to be had again.

Negative: Waitress never inquired if I would like more coffee.

Filet mignon was fatty and filled with grizzle, very tough. Definitely not quality cut of meat. Mashed potatoes were lumpy. Eggplant Parmesan tasted like it was made with jar sauce - almost metallic tasting. Waitress brought soft drink refill And didn’t advise they weren’t free so we were charged $4 for a glass of mostly ice. Food was terrible, almost inedible. Place is extremely loud with people shouting to be heard over loud music playing. Chairs were hard metal, very uncomfortable.

We went to celebrate my wife’s birthday with our adult children. We had made a reservation and even had to give our credit card. I didn’t mind doing that but was disappointed when the table was not set up when we came in. The gentleman I don’t know if he was a general manager or owner was a little rough around the edges. The waitress was new but very nice and tried her best. Everyone enjoyed their food but service was slow even though it was not busy.

I enjoyed my meal very much. We were seated near the door and it was freezing cold. The hostess moved us into the bar area. My only complaint is that it is very bright in that area. A little lower light would have been better. Food was really good. I’d definitely go back.

Had the most delicious brunch at Port Bistro & Pub yesterday! French Toast was DELICIOUS, plus the Mimosas were outstanding! The Broccoli Rabe and Mozzarella Omelet, INCREDIBLE! The portions were HUGE. We'll be back!

Went for Saturday brunch for a first visit. The prices are good, with the traditional brunch food and drink options. Good portions and delicious. The peach Bellini was tasty. The bill for two breakfast and two drinks was about $41. The downfall? In an almost completely empty restaurant, they wanted to seat us at a tiny table almost on top of the next table. They honored the request to choose another table, but it was definitely a turn off to have to point out the fact that in a time of social distancing that we would like space. Only one other table was seated while we were there and that didn’t happen until we were getting ready to leave. There were some issues with the music going in and out. Unsure if will return.

Food was great. The lightning was a bit bright. Ambiance could be warmer. House music not necessary.

I reserved a table for four at 6:00 and when I arrived I was seated promptly. The staff is very friendly and we all enjoy the food and entertainment.

Food was mediocre. Service was pretty slow. Place was ok. Looks like they may have recently changed ownership and are trying to get their legs under them. Looks like they were trying but may be a bit understaffed.
