Poros is a sophisticated seafood restaurant modelled after an Aegean Estiatorio. An Estiatorio is a more formal Greek eatery than the more casual taverna. A large assortment of fresh fish is flown in daily from the Mediterranean and North Atlantic, as well as exotic shellfish and crustaceans. Estiatorio Poros also features lamb from three domestic lamb farms, two of which are critically acclaimed local farms (Jamison and Elysian Fields). An assortment of seafood, vegetarian and meat meze by Executive Chef Chris O’Brien and his experienced staff complete this fun and varied menu, which is executed in full view of the dining room from our state-of-the-art open kitchen.

Poros Ratings and Reviews
Happy New Year 2018! Was it worth the price? Probably.
Bread w Baba Ghanoush $5 good.
Calamari $12 Bland, didn’t even finish it. Didn’t want to fill up on something that was so so. If it tasted like something we would have devoured it!
Seafood Platter for two $85! We built our own for $10 more but still not worth it. Portion was good. I’m not a big eater so we had more than enough. It consisted of..
2 Scallops - husband said they were delicious. $12
2 Crabcakes - were just ok not a lot of flavor. $24
1 lamb chop - paid extra for it $18. Was delicious but...
Ahi Tuna - my favorite dish. But at $80 a lb.?? 1/2 lb $46!
It was a great way to try a little of everything.
Asparagus side - $7 good.
So NOT including our $40 carafe of “draft” wine ...
our FOOD bill was $134. Which wouldn’t have been bad if the scenery was anything other than the Five Guys burger joint! Lol. Ambiance was average. It was quiet. Low noise level. Our server Steve was great! Very knowledgeable. Explained the menu and made suggestions.
We were anxious to give it a try. And will probably stop for lunch some time. Dinner again? Not so sure. $186! For average food.
I've been to Poros four times since it opened and after the first really awesome experience, its been less awesome each succeeding time. I'm not sure what's going on. Went on a Wednesday night between Christmas and New Year's. Despite the dining room being a third full, it took ten minutes for a server to show up. I know that doesn't sound like alot, but when the restaurant isn't busy feels like forever. Nothing kills the mood for a dining experience like having the server begin by telling you about four dishes that are sold out (on a menu with about 12 entrees). We just never recovered. The food was OK. My fish sat at the kitchen (which I could see) for too long and wasn't really hot when it arrived. I was just in capitulation mode by then and didn't want to send it back. I've always liked this place and keep going back because I'm hoping the previous experience was just a blip. The bill was $300 before tip, so you are paying for a premium dining experience. Unfortunately something is wrong here and by the thin crowd on a holiday night combined with a spotty menu, it feels like a turnaround is needed.
Overall I liked this place- they have a big fresh fish display, which is always a good thing. However, for being a greek/mediterranean restaurant it is not owned by greek people and that does make a difference.
Cons: Even though the waiter said the tomatoes were good we ordered the greek salads and the tomatoes were mealy, so those were sent back. We both had the dorade (sea bream) fish and my partner's portion was half the size of mine for some odd reason.
Pros: The dips were pretty good and the fish (albeit inconsistent portion sizes) was delicious.
Our food was very good and I will return. The staff was very friendly. Not sure what happened but we were one of the first tables seated and everyone around us and in site came in, ordered, ate, paid and left before we received our food. I ordered a fixed price lunch with a tomato cucumber salad, pan-seared salmon with no sauce (with mixed greens) and a mixed fruit with greek yogurt on the side. The other person ordered less. Nothing time consuming here.
I assume our check was misplaced in the kitchen.
Also, we were seated next to a window and although someone came to close the blinds because of direct sunlight in our eyes, the blind really did very little to help.
I would recommend Poros, though, and will be back. I suspect our experience today is not the norm.
Service was very good. Reservations are highly recommended. I had the ravioli. Instead of being filled with lobster, it was filled with crabmeat. It was really good. My wife had the Chilean Sea Bass and a crabcake. Not used to an ala cart menu. Be ready for an expensive meal but the quality is there. My wife and I both enjoyed our meal before we went to the show.
Once again a fine evening. Had flatbread and cheese/olives platters up front. Excellent and unusual flatbread. Wife had eggplant pie with an added lamb chop for main course and raved about the chop. I had branzino with broccoli as a side. Planca preparation was perfect and whole meal was wonderful. Appreciated availability of ice cream/sorbet for dessert as that was all we had room for after the meal. Wine list is extensive. Come with some info about Greek wines for knowledgeable adventuresome choices. Happy to recommend to downtown eaters for pre-theater/concert.
We did not have a good experience. Went prior to a show at Heinz Hall. Apps were terrible: Spanakopita (spinach pie) is not what you would expect. Normal dish has crispy buttery crust, earthy spinach, and tart cheese and lemon. This was charred phyllo wrapped around unseasoned spinach. Eggplant and zucchini chips were soggy. Nothing worse than soggy flaccid chips.......NOTHING. Calamari was tender but breading was soft, not crispy. In short, apps were awful. Waited over an hour for our grilled fish. Asked the waiter several times and were told our food was coming right up....not even an “I’m sorry” which is unacceptable in my view considering we told him we had a show to get to. Finally got our food and had 15 minutes to eat. The fish was very fresh for being in a land-locked city and very well prepared. Sides were ok. For the price of this place, I’d expect a higher level of refinement for the dishes and much better service. BTW, the portions are TINY, even by “haute cuisine standards”. My advise is to go to one of the other better and less expensive seafood restaurants in the city and spend what you save at the next Greek food fair to get your Greek Food fix. Holy Cross in Mt Lebo has one you will not regret.
Poros has become our favorite downtown restaurant. The food is always excellent and the service is great. Wait staff have a nice balance of having a little fun while not getting off track. They are good at determining how much guidance to give you in menu choices, particularly the fish portions. Always an enjoyable experience!
The restaurant was nearly empty yet they jammed the 4 of us into a table for 2. Waitress struggled to explain what was included with each entree. This is billed as a Greek restaurant, but some basic foods were just not included on the menu. I ordered a salad, waited a while and then the bus boy delivered it to someone else in our party, so clearly they didn't know who ordered what. Then as I recovered my salad the dinners were served and I was trying to mix a salad and dinner together, just not well organized for a 3/4 empty restaurant. Not sure what it would be like if it was busy!?
The staff was very friendly but not completely attentive to the needs of the table. appetizers came to the table and 10 minutes later we received plates. Drink order was extremely slow and our entrées arrived well over a half hour after our appetizer were taken away. Also two entrées were ordered and were told hat they ran out of them yet they remained on our bill. Didn’t notice that until we got home.
We LOVE this place. We do not live in the area, but we take a special trip into Pittsburgh annually just to eat here. Fast Service, Excellent Food, Fun Atmosphere and Great Pricing! Also, Becca is AMAZING! She is professional, prompt, courteous and so much fun! Ask for Becca's section.....she is the best!
