nice atmosphere; i appreciate they are only taking reservations. wait staff is terrific.
Wonderful experience great service and the fish was a extraordinary dish
Amazing food and service! Our server Peter was awesome!!
it would be nice if they had a clearer entrance for customers than cutting through the patio area where folks are eating.
We sat out on the porch and it was a beautiful day.
Excellent food and service, will definitely be back!
We had the pleasure of dinning here the Saturday night of Mother’s Day weekend. The space is absolutely stunning, the service was incredible and the food was world class. Our waiter (Jackson) couldn’t have been more perfect. In the times of servers wearing masks we could see his smile, pride of the Resturant and the food he served us in his eyes. We were also fortunate to meet the lovely the owner on our way out. If in Galveston or want to get out of Houston for a night dinning here is a must.
The food and drink were better than ever before. the service was relaxed and friendly despite the need for a mask.
Did not feel nervous.
Excellent food, and we’ll be back!
Enjoyable evening on the porch. Quiet. Good food. Excellent service.
The reason this rating is as high as it is is due to the bartender who saved the day during our visit. We arrived on time for our reservation and there was one other table occupied. We were seated near the back and were totally ignored by the wait staff for more than 15 minutes. No water, no drink order, nothing. In fact, the two individuals who were waiting table (remember, only one other table was occupied) stood next to our table at their kiosk station chatting on the phone and with each other within 10 feet of us. After more than 15 minutes the bartender happened to walk out from behind the bar to get something out of the cooler, at which point I got his attention and asked for glasses of water. When he returned, less than a minute later, we mentioned that nobody had tended our table since our arrival. At this point, the bartender proceeded to take us under his wing and we became “his table”. His attitude and skills were outstanding - he obviously cared about what he was doing and we certainly appreciated it!
The food was very good, especially the cheese grits and shrimp. I believe that only one or two other tables were occupied during our visit other than the small family that was there when we arrived.
I recommend the food, it was very good!
I hope that the wait staff learns their jobs. If not, this place will have even smaller numbers than we saw on a Friday night.
Thank you Mr. Bartender - you managed to salvage the situation beautifully:-)
Food was great. The place wasn't very busy but It took an hour to get the food out.
We didn't realize that this restaurant was like part of an east beach new home community .... but it didn't matter. Lots of creative brunch choices. But the drinks, oh my. Imagine alcohol smoothies. Their green tomato bloody Mary was out of this world. Great tasty fresh shrimp and grits.
Food was amazing and service was good. Food wasn’t fast so make sure you have time. But it was a great atmosphere and would definitely recommend stopping in!
A bit overpriced but the experience was very good
Truly delicious food. The service was tremendous, friendly and attentive. The ambiance is always wonderful. Very enjoyable evening.
Hi Jeannie, Thanks for the feedback, we are happy to have provided you with a wonderful evening! We look forward to seeing you again in the future!
We enjoyed our meal but service was a bit slow (even though friendly) and they did nothing for my son for his birthday; no “happy birthday” on his dessert, etc. Disappointed I wasn’t made aware that they did nothing for birthdays when I reserved and specifically stated we were celebrating a 12th birthday.
Very disappointed with the food quality and atmosphere.
Hi Polly, we are sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations. If you wouldn't mind emailing us at the address we have sent to you we would like to hear more about your experience and ensure that we provide a better experiences moving forward.
The food in previous visits was inconsistent. We were happy to have a wonderful meal during restaurant week. I will return based on this visit. It would be even better if the glasses of wine were more reasonably priced.
Hello, We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your most recent visit for our restaurant week menu! We hope to see you again in the future!
Slow beginning. Wrong drink order taken. And then charged for double. Waitress was very friendly and attentive. Expected a bit more. Will be back hoping for more.
Overall it was a good experience but both of our meat dishes were tough and the portions were small compared to another restaurant we paid less for. We chose the Restaurant Week menu.
Celebrated a wonderful anniversary. Try to get there during restaurant week. It is lovely.
Yes, we recommend this restaurant all the time. My husband and I made a reservation for dinner and ordered from the restaurant week menu. My fish was excellent and the appetizer was wonderful. We had wine and the chocolate mouse for desert was to die for. We love this restaurant.
We’ve been meaning to go to Porch Cafe for quite a while and were very disappointed when we finally went on restaurant week. We ordered from the special menu plus two extra sides. Only the extra sides were hot. The fried green tomatoes were cold and had obviously been pre-made and frozen. Snapper was cold. There were very few people in the restaurant on a Friday night, but service was awful. Asked for more bread (best thing we had) but waiter never brought it. Not one of the 3 of us finished our meal, because it wasn’t good, yet the waiter complimented us on how much we ate. We had to wait about 15 minutes or so to get our check, as our waiter walked right by us 4 times without glancing our way.
Terrible. Would not recommend. I’m sorry to say that, I was hopeful it would be a new favorite. Telling that on a Friday night, very few people.
For the price of the restaurant week special, the portions should have been larger. The Caesar salad was absolutely delicious. The asparagus appetizer is 2 pieces of asparagus with a two inch by two inch piece of steak wrapped around them, tasty but inadequate for the price. The chicken and pasta dish had 3 small slices of chicken, but it was delicious. The snapper portion was fine and tasty, but could have used another side instead of just a few fried green tomatoes. Dessert was good. It just didn't feel like a $35 menu. I've eaten at quite a few restaurants during Houston's Restaurant Week, and they all had good portions.
I'll still come back, but for the price I'll order from the menu and skip dessert.
We went for Galveston restaurant week. The dining room is quaint and well appointed the wait staff was very attentive. The wine list had a number of good wines available. Each course came out on time and hot, we both started out with the filet wrapped asparagus which was very well presented and flavorful. My wife had the beef and I had the Snapper for our entries both were very good, for dessert she had the Chocolate mousse I had the Key Lime Pie both were good my pie was one of the best I have tasted. We have been before and will go back and highly recommend this restaurant.
Great place. The
The wine pairings Sunday evening are amazing and the food was great.
Nice atmosphere. Great food. We love it there.
Cuisine and service always good. Limited dinner menu.
Convenient parking, good service, great food, we will be back. Out of the way on East Beach. Dinner was perfect for our group of 4.
So nice to have a place to eat on East Beach! Especially like the Sunday night wine or whiskey pairing with dinner!
I love the personal touch you get from the staff. The food is always excellent. If there is a favorite from a previous seasonal menu, they will try to accommodate your request. I am a repeat customer.
Service was great until we got our food and then they stopped coming back. Had to fetch my own water.
Wow what an interesting improvement on our last two visits. We’ve dined at the Porch Cafe since it opened. There seem to have been numerous changes of management and staff. The food quality has fluctuated between outstanding and mediocre. Last spring we went twice and had bad food and bad service and decided we would not go again.
However last week we were tired and it’s close by. No need to find parking, we can walk. Glad we did. It’s back to being really good. The waitress was friendly and helpful. The chef came out several times to make sure the food tasted good and we liked everything. He was great. We both really enjoyed our meals. The menu was interesting and reasonably priced. We are very happy to know we have a great restaurant in walking distance again.
Food was tasty. Grits were a little stiff for my preference. Tried the Porch Lemonade which had some watermelon purée but I couldn’t taste it. Needs more watermelon flavor. In a secluded location and close to a public beach that we walked on after we ate. Very quiet beach. Nice.
Food and service was excellent. Our only complaint was the Sam’s club quality paper napkins we were given. Other tables had real napkins... not sure what we did to deserve cut rate paper ones.
Food and service was amazing! Love running into friends there! It is a must when we are in Galveston!!!
