Our Restaurant Week experience at Poppy was disappointing. Water was spilled twice on our table and the busboy didn't offer to clean up after himself. Also, the pork thali was chewy and served lukewarm.
At the end of our meal, the staff refused to accept a valid Open Table gift card because they believed it was a promo code, not a gift card.
I was disappointed after hearing such good things about Poppy over the years. Overall, it had the atmosphere of a fancy Ikea cafeteria.
After reading the reviews, I decided to try Poppy during Restaurant week.
A majority of the reviews mentioned that service was very slow and it was.
The place was not packed when we arrived, a little before 6 on a Sunday.
The food is excellent, combining lots of different flavors and spices which were all complimentary to the main dish. But, 2 hours is how long it took for us to finish our dishes.
We paid for the 2 hr. parking upfront, thinking it would be plenty. I had to flag the waitperson
down and tell her we had 10 min's left to finish our dessert and pay. We received the appe
fairly quickly, but I had to ask for our dinner twice. The explanation was only so many orders go through and we had to wait for the next 2. This tells me our order was not put in immediately, since I saw 2 other tables that were served dinner before us. These tables arrived after us and had a different wait person. Both of these tables left before we even got our dessert. I don't know if we had a new server or what? I do know that someone else brought out our dinner and someone else brought out our dessert as well. Maybe she needed help? 2 hrs. is unacceptable for a 3 course meal. I don't know about the prices since it was rest. week, so I cannot comment on that. The portions were all small, but filling enough for my husband and I. We are not big eaters. The flavors were wonderful, but I wouldn't recommend it for the wait.
Came for restaurant week and the food was phenomenal. The portion sizes for the Thali style food were perfect for sharing. When the entrees were served, someone described all the different sides to the Thali which was very helpful. The cocktails were unique and delicious.
The service was so slow that it took us 2 hours to finish a 3-course meal during which they ran out of things we ordered at the beginning of the meal. I ordered a dessert as soon as we were seated and they told me towards the end that all dairy free deserts are gone and offered me fruit instead.
The food's alright. Definitely worth trying, but the service is beyond bad. I guess since they have 20% compulsory gratuity, the staff can not be bothered to be professional.
TL:DR: Ambiance, service and food that are all excellent without fussiness or unwanted pomp.
My lady has raved about Poppy as one of her favorite go-to locations for a fun dining experience. So I rounded up a group of 9 for her mid 30s birthday dinner, and it was a great experience. The restaurant is beautiful in the sense of being very clearly designed in a way where the aesthetics are intentional, but not fussy or extravagant--they're purposeful, lovely, and uncluttered. Our server was clearly a seasoned pro . . . maybe in her mid 40s, and absolutely stellar service. Friendly, engaging, and helpful without a single missed beat or off note the entire night. And the food, well, it was fantastic. Creative dishes that were exceptionally well prepared, and made with incredible, fresh ingredients.
We'll be back again, soon.
Everytime I go to Poppy I'm wowed by their creativity with ingredients. My advice: look briefly at the menu to pick what kind of main meat you're in the mood for an then trust the chef. You'll never fail here.
The food is amazing! I would return again...and again. I have already recommended Poppy to several friends.
Just had another fabulous meal at Poppy. The Thali serving is always so interesting, different and wonderful.
Poppy has become an annual tradition. They never disappoint.
My wife and I have been to Poppy a few times prior to this visit, which was inspired by Seattle Restaurant Week (prix fixe menu). Everything about the meal was exceptional, with the exception (no pun intended) of the noise level, which is not unbearably loud but definitely requires one to speak loudly to one's spouse or guests.
I will offer one specific observation of the unusually attentive wait staff. After our appetizers had arrived and the server departed, I fumbled with my fork and dropped it on the ground. I started to get up to walk to the next table over to grab a clean fork, and before I got their a server had rushed over and replaced the utensil. I don't think I have ever had that kind, pro-active service.
Our wait staff was excellent especially Rachael. Dinner yum, eggplant fries do not miss.
This was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. A great birthday celebration!
We were there for restaurant week. We put in our order and watched the table next to us be served appetizers, dinner and dessert and our waiter never came back. Finally he asked if we'd gotten our entrees - it had been over an hour since we ordered and we hadn't even gotten bread or appetizers. They had forgotten to put or order in. We were told they were out of all desserts. After being there almost 2 hours we were finally served and they paid for our meal but I won't be coming back.
we both wanted to try something new. We had no idea (with the name Poppy) that there was an indian flair to it. It was unique and fabulous. The flavors were not overwhelming one another and yet there was enough pop that I'm afraid I can't make it at home. We also enjoyed their cocktail list... overall we had a wonderful night and will be back. We are pescatarian's and sometimes it is difficult for us to enjoy all restaurants. this one was easy to enjoy! worth trying
The menu for Restaurant Week was outstanding. So many flavors and creative combinations! Love!
As always, excellent and varied creations with unique flavors. Crush without the long costly meal and pretense
We ate everything and it was great!
Overpriced- Food Average
Dinner took an hour and a half to serve. The meal (1 starter and 2 mains, no drinks) was still $60 even after a $40 discount. I was served a cold steak and blazing hot sides. Our waiter avoided us and made the hostess refill water. The flavors themselves were bland an uninspired. I would not go again even if it were on time and warm because for $100 I can get far higher quality food and flavors elsewhere and include drinks too.
Our first visit and it was outstanding. A creative menu of small plates and large plates ,great wine and beer choices and wonderful desserts to choose from. Attentive service ,ample portions great dining experience. The eggplant fries are a must.!!!
We have had several good experiences at Poppy but our recent meal there was extraordinary! They have really upped their game from am already high level. Each bite was a flavor experience that made me wonder why my wife and I go anywhere else.
Just GO! Awesome. I promise.
Was visiting Seattle for a short trip from Philly and wanted to find something unique. Poppy did not disappoint. Great mix of styles and flavors with none of the pretense or clumsiness of "fusion". Cocktails were varied, creative, and if you're willing to trust the capable list you won't be let down. Honestly, trust is key at a place like this that does so much in only 4 entree offerings. I implore you: trust the chef. That strawberry-tomato-coconut milk bisque is fantastic-- partly because the flavors melt into one sweet, savory, salty concoction, and partly because, like everything on the menu, it rewards your trust in a great menu that knows what tastes good. Who doesn't constantly want their trust rewarded with great food?
This was my first time visiting Seattle and my friend recommended this place. There was a group of 4 of us. Two ordered flavored sodas while the other two ordered cocktails. The sodas were delicious but the two cocktails were both underwhelming.
The Thalis here were definitely the highlights. We each ordered a different Thalis: chicken, salmon, steak and carrot agnolotti. They were all paired with different soups, pickled fruits and vegetables that complement well with the main dish.
In the end, the bill was a bit pricey for what I think I got. However, I feel like I will still recommend this place to my friends, but with some caveats like my experience with the cocktails and the price. The atmosphere was fine, but I also feel like there's a disconnect between the ambiance and the price range the restaurant is set at.
Excellent food served in a thali concept. My salmon with a wine butter sauce with lobster mushrooms was divine. The herbed goddess salad was very nicely balanced. My Shigoku oysters were phenomenal with the verbena ice. My vegan daughter's thali was excellent with a velvety chickpea dish. The heirloom tomatoes with shiso ice and herbs were beautifully presented.
Great dinner, perfectly executed. Can't wait for next time.
Seats by the windows are pretty but freezing, food is fabulous!
There were four of us. Therefore, LOVE to the 4th power. Two foodies visiting from NYC.... one is a chef/caterer in Manhattan.
Great food. The glasses of wine were overpriced so too expensive for a return visit soon.
Unique food served in a nice environment. Definitely worth a try!
My friend and I sat at the bar and ordered our favorites: eggplant fries and tandoori chicken with Asian slaw. They have an updated drink menu and bartender Holly steered us toward some fantastic cocktails. In fact, Holly was the best part of the experience: knowledgable, funny and very skilled at her craft. Truth be told, we want to sit at the bar every week if she's on the schedule.
I love this place. We always have such a wonderful experience at Poppy.
Came for a date night. Food was ok. Not mild blowing but just ok. the service was really bad that day. Took about 1.5 hrs to get our food. They warned us it'd be 30 mins for the entrees. Luckily we got an appetizer which they later comped. The servers were nice it was just really, really slow. Put a real damper on the date. I think there were some issues in the kitchen. I'm not sure I'd return.
My daughter introduced me to Poppy for a birthday dinner several years ago. It has become one of our favorite special places to eat. The food is remarkable and inventive and the cocktail menu is a melange of exotic flavors. I can't wait for my next visit.
My third time to Poppy and every time it has been excellent. Creative cuisine. Pay parking lot in back of restaurant (good for Capital Hill!). Unique cocktails and great service.
Yet another great Seattle restaurant. Buzzy neighborhood atmosphere, creative menu with lots of new taste experiences.
Incredible dining experience. Definitely a special place in Seattle
The steak was probably the best I have ever tasted. I am going back for it.
My wife and I have been there several times and the food and service are great. We love the eggplant fries. The salads have interesting ingredients and are quite tasty. Great value and very interesting food.
Always excellent and unique from the cocktails to dessert. One of the best in Seattle!
We ate in the lovely herb garden patio. We all ordered different entrees. All we could do was rave and share! Everything was yummy perfection. Our waiter, Jeffery was gracious and attentive. Loved the experience! Thanks to all.
