The wait staff person was very good and gave great service. We had to wait a long time after ordering before we got our food. Close to one-half hour. The wait staff came twice aside the kitchen was very busy and apologized.

We've been to Poppy many times and had great experiences. However, on our last visit the server routinely forgot about us - it took 20 minutes after sitting down to get waters and place drink orders. Once we finished our entrees we sat with dirty plates for at least 20 minutes until someone noticed and asked if we'd ordered dessert as part of the pre-fixe menu. After finishing our meal, we waited over 30 minutes for the check. While we like to enjoy and linger over dinner when dining out, it was clear that the service staff had forgotten about our table repeatedly. The server was kind enough to comp our two drinks, but still took over 30 minutes to bring us the check. After over two hours of dining on a weeknight when the restaurant was only about half full, we were happy to leave the uncomfortable chairs. While we enjoyed the food, the portions were small and it seems that the restaurant has started to veer away from the original thali experience. We were huge fans of this restuarant and are sad to see it change.

Went here for a triple birthday celebration and it was perfect. Had a table near the front windows, which was lovely, and the atmosphere was perfect -- nice but not stuffy, convivial but not too loud. The food was so much fun to share, as there were so many interesting flavors incorporated in the meals. Service was friendly and they didn't rush us. Thank you Poppy!

The food was absolutely fabulous. I can't complain at all about our food. I love the eclectic combination of flavors that go in to all dishes and drinks. The bussers around us also worked hard to make sure our water glasses never stayed below half full for very long.

Unfortunately, the service left quite a bit to be desired. I'm sad that I had to get a manager involved because we ordered our first round of drinks before we even ordered appetizers and by halfway through dinner had never been checked up on to see if we needed any refills. We were sitting at the bar and were being waited on by the bartender, who was very overwhelmed with making all the drink orders for the entire restaurant, and serving anyone seated there. I get that he was busy, but it's not OK to go through 2 courses without being asked if we needed anything else.

The management was very quick to respond and get us taken care of, but I hope they work to make sure the bar is more adequately staffed in the future.

We love eating at Poppy! Always surprising and creative. The layers of flavors in every dish simply amaze. From dosas, to pork shoulder with pineapple kim chee, we never know what to expect and we're always delighted. And desserts are off the charts! This is a special place for celebrations and relaxing into the artistry of great food well done.

Always delicious and inventive. I didn’t realize it was Restaurant Week till I made the reservation, then I thought that the a la carte menu would also be available, which it was not. So the choices were less copious and slightly less interesting than usual, but dinner was still great. What they can do with eggplant … !

The food is delicious, the service is wonderful, the wait staff and kitchen offered willingly to accommodate one at our table who has a food allergy (eggs). This person had called the restaurant ahead of time to ask if they could accommodate this food allergy. All was wonderful.

We have gone to Poppy on several occasions, but never again unless someone can convince us that the service has improved. The food was good except for the dry cake for dessert. But one of the items we had ordered off the starter menu was not delivered until after dessert! Our waitperson showed little interest in serving us. The only person who did his job well was the guy who kept our water glasses full!

We were in Seattle for a conference and some local friends recommended Poppy to us for dinner. I am glad they did. The restaurant has an open and friendly vibe from the moment you enter. Here in San Diego a place like this would come with an attitude but everyone at Poppy was friendly and down to earth. The menu is interesting and offers choices for all palates. One of us is vegetarian and she had no problem finding something either. All food was delicious and the presentation was wonderful. We got a table by the window so we were able to do some people watching while we ate. We all agreed that this is definitely worth a recommendation and are glad our friends let us know about it.

I am a long time Poppy fan, and try to dine there every so often. This last visit left a bad taste- service and quality was not what it used to be. Instead of our usual thali, we decided to go ala carte for a change. maybe that was the mistake. first of all, ordered a cocktail (something bees) - served in a metal container, full of ice. two or 3 sips and it was gone. We ordered eggplant fries, dosa and the tart. Half the fries were soggy, tart was burnt and while the sides that came with the dosa were delicious, the dosa was cardboard -stiff; gave up eating with fork and knife, and literally had to tear it with our hands. so much for a civilized eating experience. We also had the eggplant panisse (not worth the $25, IMHO), chocolate malt sundae, and baklava. nothing memorable about them.

We were a couple and we were seated close to another couple (looked like they split the table up 2 feet apart), and the entire evening, we were unwitting eavesdroppers to the whole conversation (I am sure they would stay the same)

But the service was outraged me the most - they have a 20% service charge added to your bill; that is a crime for the dismal service we encountered. We wanted to order an extra dish and some wine. We mentioned this to the server who served our entrée. she informed us that she was not responsible for taking orders and left. we assumed she would inform our server, but apparently she didn't. We never heard from the server until it was dessert time and it was too late by then. why do you stick a service charge and then leave us hanging? totally unacceptable.

I will not be back soon.

The bartender was rude and and inept. He hid looking at his cell phone by pressing himself to the compter/cash register and putting the phone on a tiny ledge while his back was to the bar and restaurant, blocking out customers. The food was bland, not a quality I associate with Indian food. The music was too loud.

Underwhelming experience after hearing how amazing it was. Menu rather limited actually, I chose the nettle ravioli with a sunchoke sauce and mushrooms. It was a bit too sparse with flavors. Others had the chickpea cake with eggplant and tomatoes. That was the better dish for flavor. The burratta salad was quite modest portion but well infused flavors. It was all just meh.

Food was good, service was attentive but definitely slowed down once the place got busier. No big deal, we ended waiting about 15-20 for dessert. Our waitress said it was just sitting there, so she took it off the bill.
Good is very flavorful, the thali has such a wide assortment of food they complimented each other well. The naan is ridiculous, I can eat just that and be happy. But as usual, the eggplant fries are always the star of show.
Overall a good experience, servers could smile a little more but it’s Seattle. Haha

Kate greeted us full of smiles, got us a great table by the window near the bar. Edna was super attentive, great explanations on whatever we asked and quick. Food was delightful... the vegan thali is super satisfying, though I ordered the regular poppy seed naan as an upgrade. Thoroughly enjoyable, we’ll be back again soon. Thank you Kate!

We had a wonderful meal at Poppy, celebrating my lady’s birthday, on the recommendation of a foodie friend.
We were warmly greeted, and asked whether we’d like a table by the window or in a corner further inside, the latter chosen by the my lady.
Presented with some pink bubbly to start with (thank you!) we had the Dosa as an appetizer -> wow, it was like a large, softer poppadum and very tasty. For our mains we had the Thali with pork shoulder, and the duck breast. Both were divine! The Thali is such a creative way of dining and we had a wonderful time working our way around the different tastes and textures, blending with the pork or duck meat. With our ice cream desert we got some complimentary caramels with them – so yummy!
The Chablis from Domaine Roland Lavantureux was equally divine and was a perfect accompaniment.
Our server was very attentive, and polite and unobtrusive.
This is some of the most creative cuisine I have had in Seattle, and we shall be returning!

Had never tried this type of cuisine before and it was amazing. Friends from out of town joined us and we shared the dishes and everyone agreed that the preparation and taste were excellent. We were forewarned that the was not cheap eats so when the bill came it was no surprise and certainly not exorbitant. Good food and good value on Capitol Hill.
