About
Starting with our ingredients - they are either locally-sourced, small-batched, or seasonal. The ingredients guide the menu which changes weekly depending on what's in season. As you enter Poppy you will be able to smell our one-of-a-kind open hearth, the fires provides the heat for all our hot dishes and flavors, while adding a coziness and warmth to the atmosphere.
The menu itself is designed to be coursed. It consists of small plates, which encourages everyone to explore the menu and try multiple dishes while sharing a cozy lunch or dinner overlooking two of the best views in College Station. Poppy's floor to ceiling windows overlook the beautiful pool located right outside The George Hotel, as well as the wonderful outdoor plaza in Century Square.
great service!
Our lunch was excellent and the service was impeccable! Wonderful people who explained the different entrees and made sure everything was perfect. We will be back!
The staff was extraordinary, allowing us to dine when we walked in 5 minutes before the closing time on the evening of December 13. We were celebrating my son's college graduation but the event extended longer than we expected. Peyton the hostess graciously accepted our excuse and made it very special. Likewise, the rest of the staff treated us kindly despite being closing time; the manager came to the table to congratulate my son on his graduation. The food was very good, fresh and modern, and the setting attractive and cool. I will be returning to Poppy on all of my trips to College Station. I highly recommend Poppy.
Not ready for prime time. This should have been a really great place to dine. Instead we had a brand new waitress who repeated very well the farm to table speech (we ate both lunch and dinner at Poppy) but couldn't open a bottle of wine, when opened had to be coached to pour a taste for the gentleman who ordered and then comically she left the bottle on the table without pouring in each glass on the table. She came by the table every 5 minutes and seemed intent on clearing the table even though it was evident we were still eating. She was a sweet personality and well versed in the tag line. She really needed better training in serving a table. Shame on the management for this.
The food was adequate at best making it over priced.
We will find somewhere else to eat when in College Station next.
Should have been a really great place to dine.
Everyone in our party agreed the food was outstanding, and the portion sizes were generous. The salads, especially, were a big hit. Devin, our waiter, was very accommodating to our requests and did a great job taking care of us. Given that it was graduation weekend, I was surprised to be able to get a table here, but I’m so glad we did! Four stars for ambiance because the smoke from the hardwood cooking fire was noticeable.
Graduation celebration lunch
Double date with my sister, it was a wonderful experience.
Dinner in night one of our baby moon. Our whole experience was excellent. Would definitely recommend!
Nice foodie find to visit before the game. Good food (quail and grits were amazing), good drink menu and the in-house marshmellow was to die for.
We were here for dinner on a friday evening. We got there earlier than expected but got seated right away. We shared a couple of appetizers which were ok but too small to share. Main plates got mixed reviews with portions just on the small size. Service was prompt and courteous but a bit inexperienced.
I would recommend it because it is a good value.
Unique. Fresh. Light, not heavy.
Very disappointed with the food. The best thing we ordered was the charred avocado and that wasn’t anything extraordinary. The prices are too high, the portions too small, and the overall taste of the food is not great. The cocktails and deserts were very good. Would come back for cocktails as the ambience is also nice but never getting food there again.
Great atmosphere and food. Perfect size portions.
We had a fabulous experience and will be back when in College Station in the future!
I realize it’s a busy game weekend, but the service was really sub-par and not worth the expense. I’m not sure I’ll ever return. The food was good, but the service was just lacking. It took so long to get our first round of drinks and then get second drinks. Our server was so passionate about the farm to table concept and her favorite dishes... and had not even asked, what would you like to drink... and that was after it took her forever to come in the first place. Again, it was just a miss.
Wonderful!!!
Quail & chicken entrees are too small for a dinner portion. We had to literally order a second entree for our guests. It was embarrassing.
The beef was overcooked - ordered medium rare. Very dry. And couldn’t eat so settled for just eating Brussels sprouts. At a business dinner with my husband’s boss so I didn’t want to send back.
Outstanding service and food quality. The server helped us select the perfect menu items. We were impressed with all our selections. Unique and quality menu items. Will definitely be back.
Food is good, but found it to be expensive for college station market...
Everything is nice, from the ambience to the service, and from the platting of the food to how it actually tastes.
I am definitely planning to visit this regularly in the future.
We enjoyed the food very much! The halibut was a bit overcooked and therefore dry, otherwise I would have rated the food a 5. Loved the farm to table concept. My daughter's chicken and peas were excellent! The bacon arugula salad was very tasty!
Birthday Dinner + A&M football game weekend.
We had a great time with the family, but we were really disappointed with the level of service..... very slow!
The menu is limited, what we did get was good! Great location!!
Our table waited 15 minutes to be greeted, then another 30 minutes to receive a round of drinks. The food was nothing to write home about; I even had to send my meal back as it was all fat and I was not able to eat it. It is very overpriced for what it was. Will not return.
Excellent service and food
Great service and very tasty food. Short Rib and butterfish entrees were both amazing!
Great ambiance and excellent service. Plus, everything was delicious.
Great food and service
Loved the farm to table concept, atmosphere and service. The food was delicious too. Highly recommend the charred avocado, the broccolini and bacon salad with tahini and goat cheese and the Spanish mackerel. Will be back!
Not at all good. Rib was fatty and certainly nit tender. Couldn’t eat it. Chicken with peas yuck. Actually use salt or something to add flavor. Fish so so.
I respect the ambition. But I think they are maybe too ambitious with the artistry instead of execution and approachability of the food. Take a few risks, yes. But not too many resulting alienated guests.
The staff at the Poppy made our graduates' graduation lunch very special. Thank you and a big whoop for the Poppy.
Fun time and great food
We will definitely go back when we’re in town. Perfect portions colorful beautiful presentation. Delightfully filling. Amazing cocktails as well.
This was an AMAZING dinner!! Everything was great!! We Loved our waiter!! He was fun and energetic and very helpful with suggestions and questions.
I would highly recommend Poppy for any adult occasion and can not wait to go back!
My husband had warned me the portions were small. He was right. I just could not see the value in the food for the price they were charging. Lots of very good restaurants in College Station at the same price point with great food and reasonable portions.
We could not have been more pleased with our graduation celebration at Poppy. We arrived early and with one less person than our reservation had been for, but the staff got a table ready quickly, seated us early, and served delicious food. The ambiance was lovely and comfortably quiet (quiet enough to hear each other but not so quiet that we were concerned about having a fun time!) Thank you Jose for such exceptional service.
Unless customers prefer tiny food and a minimalist approach for Saturday brunch, Poppy @ the George will not be a good choice. After our party left Poppy, we went to purchase additional food elsewhere. We had high hopes because of our excellent experiences at the George hotel itself, but Poppy is not in the same stratosphere...
This was our first experience at Poppy. We were celebrating my daughter's graduation with her Master's Degree from A&M. She was very excited to choose this restaurant for her celebration because of the diverse menu options.
We were a party of 12, which is large, but we waited for over an hour for our food to arrive. Since this was just salads and sandwiches and the restaurant was only about 1/2 full, I feel like the wait was excessive.
