Poppy @ The George Hotel
Starting with our ingredients - they are either locally-sourced, small-batched, or seasonal. The ingredients guide the menu which changes weekly depending on what's in season. As you enter Poppy you will be able to smell our one-of-a-kind open hearth, the fires provides the heat for all our hot dishes and flavors, while adding a coziness and warmth to the atmosphere.
The menu itself is designed to be coursed. It consists of small plates, which encourages everyone to explore the menu and try multiple dishes while sharing a cozy lunch or dinner overlooking two of the best views in College Station. Poppy's floor to ceiling windows overlook the beautiful pool located right outside The George Hotel, as well as the wonderful outdoor plaza in Century Square.

This was an AMAZING dinner!! Everything was great!! We Loved our waiter!! He was fun and energetic and very helpful with suggestions and questions.
I would highly recommend Poppy for any adult occasion and can not wait to go back!
My husband had warned me the portions were small. He was right. I just could not see the value in the food for the price they were charging. Lots of very good restaurants in College Station at the same price point with great food and reasonable portions.
We could not have been more pleased with our graduation celebration at Poppy. We arrived early and with one less person than our reservation had been for, but the staff got a table ready quickly, seated us early, and served delicious food. The ambiance was lovely and comfortably quiet (quiet enough to hear each other but not so quiet that we were concerned about having a fun time!) Thank you Jose for such exceptional service.
Unless customers prefer tiny food and a minimalist approach for Saturday brunch, Poppy @ the George will not be a good choice. After our party left Poppy, we went to purchase additional food elsewhere. We had high hopes because of our excellent experiences at the George hotel itself, but Poppy is not in the same stratosphere...
This was our first experience at Poppy. We were celebrating my daughter's graduation with her Master's Degree from A&M. She was very excited to choose this restaurant for her celebration because of the diverse menu options.
We were a party of 12, which is large, but we waited for over an hour for our food to arrive. Since this was just salads and sandwiches and the restaurant was only about 1/2 full, I feel like the wait was excessive.
We had a very good meal and the portions were generous. But you should be aware that the menu is unique and does not contain many "standard" entrees. This was off putting for two of our family members who felt they had very limited choices. I would suggest including at least two traditional favorites plus the more adventurous offerings for those who do not enjoy trying new foods.
Everything was great - beautiful, well-cooked food, attentive service - except the noise level. Poppy could really use some noise-dampening materials in there, as it was a challenge to hear each other.
Service was extremely slow for a half full restaurant. My main course, the quail dish, was served with a bland and muddy sauce and a few scattered potatoes. It wasn’t an attractive dish and had little taste. My husband had the mackerel which was supposed to be served over a chiimicchurri sauce. Bland and dry. We understand the concept of small plates but nothing was plated attractively.
Very limited menu because all food is locally sourced. Had a lot of problems with their wine selections, many were unavailable for some reason or another. Very slow, but food tasted good.
Went expecting an awesome experience but left feeling quite disappointed. The hostess was very welcoming but the night escalated when it took nearly an hour to get our food. Our waiter seemed like he was avoiding us because of how long the food was taking. It seemed like he was new, which I would have cut him slack for. But if not, I can’t understand why he wasn’t as attentive and why our food took so long since we were one of a few tables in the entire restaurant. It was dead. Don’t expect to leave this place feeling satisfied or full since it is a small plate restaurant. Other than that, the ambiance was very nice, and the hostess sat us at a wonderful, intimate round table in a corner near the window with a beautiful view of the pool.
We received a friendly welcome and was seated right away.
Waitress was GREAT she was very informative about the menu and friendly.
The food was FANTASTIC!
Wife had the Butterfish and I had the Spanish Mackerel which was PHENOMENAL!
If you get the chance stop well worth it.
Definitely will be back for sure next time we are in town.
I would not return
Absolutely amazing. Everything was perfect. Waitstaff was very attentive. Food and beverages were spot on. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed the ambiance and being there. The area is really upbeat and fun. Menu is a bit limited and lacking any normal default choices you know you will like. It’s all an experiment; pay your money and take your chance. It’s such a lovely place to be. Hope the food can match all the effort.
Really enjoyed our dinner at Poppy! The food was great and the server recommended some great wines that paired perfectly! Can't wait to come back!
Despite having made a reservation weeks ago, and confirming it the day of, the restaurant had no table for our party of 2. We waited for 45 minutes at the bar while they sat other parties of 2 without reservations, or with reservations later than ours. It seemed like they had forgotten we were waiting. It was never explained why they had not held a table for our reservation time in the first place. Finally, they brought a scratched-up work table from the back and set it up for us at an awkward place next to the hostess stand and the front door. We never got to see the nicer dining area with views. The wait staff was trying, but they were obviously understaffed and openly frustrated with how the evening was going. The food was good, and obviously the chef has talent. But be aware that the menu is very limited, prices are extremely high, and portion sizes are tiny. We never saw a manager on the floor making sure things were running smoothly.
The staff is incredible and anticipate your every need, even before you know you have one. The food is unlike anything you've ever tried in such a good way. Their food and wine pairings are worth every penny. Your taste buds, and your date, will thank you for bringing them to Poppy.
We enjoyed our dinner, the quail was delicious and the Halibut was Fabulous. Would dine here again.
I love Poppy! We had such a great time there, and I'm so glad to have discovered this gem. The food was unlike anything I've ever had in College Station. The dishes were all so unique and were plated beautifully. The staff seemed so passionate about what they're doing which took the overall experience to another level. We will definitely be back!!
The setting is nice; but the hostess was not friendly, and the ambiance nonexistent. We had reservations (which, for a Saturday night, was completely unnecessary because the place was empty), instead of sitting us by the window overlooking the lovely pool area, she sat us in an odd corner by the hostess stand with no view. We had to request a different table. The dishes were presented beautifully and the food was delicious, but scant; one should not leave feeling hungry—the portion sizes were ridiculously small. No bread or rolls were served to go with the entrees. Our waitress was great, but even her enthusiasm could not supersede the overall lacking of this establishment.
Celebrated my birthday here and everything was wonderful! Laura was amazing and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Will definitely come back soon!
A group of us celebrated our 40th birthdays here. We certainly did not feel like we were in College Station! We had a table against the back window with a view of the pool. Beautiful! All of the food was fabulous with a creative blend of flavors.
Everything was great. The food is very good - loved the grilled vegetables. A bit cold inside, at least at dinner time.
Poppy is one of our top 3 favorites :)
Josh and Emily are exceptionally friendly and gracious!! What a pleasure to dine in an eclectic atmosphere with unique delicious entreés...but even better to be treated with amazing hospitality! Thank you so very much...we are happy and grateful~
We love Poppy!!! Great food! Fresh and perfect atmosphere to celebrate.
Son's College Graduation from A&M!
Super meal, cocktails and dinner!
The service was great ,the food was very good but the portions are too small for the price but the food is extremely taste so of course you would enjoy a little larger portion especially when it come to desert. Great coffee good wine selection.
Unfortunately while the ambiance and service was incredible the food was down right awful. I don’t know how one can dry out a medium rare piece of tenderloin that bad. The restaurant may survive here in college station but in the dfw metroplex would be out of business in a month.
The food was great but I would like larger portions
Small portions so expensive for them but you’ll get to try crazy creations you normally wouldn’t
Hard to find. Servings way too small. Focused more on making food unusual rather than adequate portions. When the waitress has to explain how to order, what everything is and then identify it again on the plate, seems like a little much.
LOVED everything about Poppy and our waiter was amazing!!!
Food was good. Disappointed that they do not carry a potato vodka, good olives and real martini glasses. Enjoyed dinner but would have loved it if I had a drink that I liked to go with it.
Ms. Haynes, Thank you for dining with us and for your feedback. I apologize that your experience did not exceed all expectations. I will ensure that your comments are passed along to our team and addressed. We just recently started carrying a potato vodka, and I apologize for not better informing our team members. We would love to host you again and get a chance to better your experience. Josh Lewis
For a college town in the middle of Texas this place is as sophisticated as a great restaurant in NYC, Chicago or LA. You would expect unseasoned students as waiters instead we received very knowledgeable completely professional individuals that could work at any hot spot in Manhattan. The food was spot on serving local farm to table meats and vegetables. Wine list was above par with some good finds if you know just enough about vino. In town to visit my daughter and catch the A&M / Old Miss game this place will be a stop for every game that I attend.
Poppy @The George's food was really very good... there is just not enough of it. The menu is very limited and the portions are very small for the price. It's one of those places where I guess you are supposed to order one of every category of food. I spent a lot of money and we left still hungry.
Made reservations for lunch on ring day, but they weren’t serving lunch menu, only dinner. Should have been given this information when I made my reservation. A moderately priced lunch for 6 turned into an expensive endeavor. The “entre’s” on the menu are in fact small courses. Too small for tapas and you need to order 3 or 4 total items per person to make a meal. Very over priced for dinner and extremely annoying for lunch - we won’t be back.
Portion sizes were small and menu choices could be better. Good vibe and doesn’t feel like you are in College Station.
Excellent creative small portion plates,
Moderate ambiance, noise level and service.
I came in to eat with my mom and our experience was great. The restaurant itself is located in a perfect space with beautiful views on either side, and the interior is equally as attractive and very cozy.
As for the food, everything that we ate was wonderful — we started our meal with pear salads which were the perfect mix of tart and sweet, then followed with the tenderloin which is one of the most well cooked steaks I’ve ever had. We also had a bottle of one of their Pinot noir selections which was recommended and paired perfectly with our food. They have a very extensive wine list with plenty of options by the glass. The kitchen was also very kind and sent us quite a few off menu dishes that they made on the spot to treat us and they were equally as good as the items we actually ordered off the menu which, in my opinion, showed how talented they are at their jobs being able to throw together delicious dishes on the spot. We ended our meals with cocktails and a sampling of all of their desserts, and the cocktails AND desserts were creative and delicious— the perfect ending to a meal.
All in all it was an amazing meal, it was not my first time at Poppy and will definitely not be my last.
