As usual the four and the service was outstanding
Service was fabulous. The food was average and extremely overpriced because of that.
We had the seafood special and all three were very good. The steak nachos was a very big portion enough for 4 people. Service was excellent as well.
Was sat a table that was added in between bar and dining area. Felt we were sitting in a hallway with no lights. Asked to be moved but hostess said the were unable even though there were open tables.
It was awesome food was next level and service was great
We didn’t get waited on for about 10 min. We had someone ask if we had been waited on and said no but we were ready to order. They took our order. Someone else brought our food, he spilled my water all over the table. No one checked on us for over 30 min. Then another guy asked if we wanted dessert. We ordered dessert and he brought it out and our check. Terrible service, it was a special get together with my daughters and I wanted it special for them to go somewhere we had never been together. They were not impressed. Very pricey for the amount of food you receive.
We were not greeted for a while once sat. Drinks refilled once in the hour and a half we were there. It was a set menu and the wrong food was brought out. Waited just over 30 min for our check and in that time nobody came by our table. The food and nice setting really saved our Valentine’s Day date. The food was absolutely amazing and we loved the atmosphere beyond the service but for $190 for the two of us...service could have definitely been improved. We know places can have off nights and try not to base it on a single experience or individual so we wanted to compliment all other aspects.
We visited for the first time on Valentine's evening. As hyped up as the restaurant is we were a bit dissatisfied. We didn't think the food was as amazing as it could have been considering the cost. When we go to dinner, we're not impressed by presentation but rather by taste and service. My tasting palate is broader than my wife's, but we both feel as though we have a solid appreciation for expanding ones taste buds. Here they are into expanding taste but more into presentation, which is fine if you're into looking at your food as art; we're not. The service was okay... For the type of restaurant and cost I would have expected better wait service. Oh, and according to the menu on the website, we were supposed to each receive a glass of champagne, that never happened. The online menu even suggested asking about the beer flight option and I was told they didn't do flights. We may try it again when the menu isn't limited.
It is hard to tell what this restaurant is really like. We went on Valentines Day when their was a set menu. The manager was great got us the menu ahead of time so we knew exactly what was going to be offered when we got there. What we didn't realize is that the portion sizes were going to be as small as they were. The Chef had a great concept, but the portions resembled San Francisco or NY type dishes. The service was wonderful. We did feel a little rushed as they brought us the appetizer platter, and then 2 min later dropped the salads on the table. The Antipasti platter was a good start to the meal, and the grapefruit salad was tasty as well. The NY Strip had a lot to be desired, we both got 5 oz. of steak it was cooked perfectly, and potatoes that seemed to be soaked in vinegar. The dessert was promptly brought out and was dry. It was a meal you would expect at a banquet dinning hall. We did both get two glasses of wine which were very good. So we left hungry and with $210 (after tip) less in our pocket. The price isn't that big of deal except they just didn't match with amount of food. I've heard great things about this restaurant, and even with a preset menu they could have lived up to their referral status. Instead they chose to maximize their average check, and lower food cost to put short term profit in the bank instead of giving a quality experience and quality menu, even keeping the pricing the same. I doubt we will return, if this was a true representation of their restaurant.
Another wonderful meal at Popoli’s Saturday night. Highly recommend this for special occasione!
Great place to celebrate a birthday with friends. Excellent food and awesome service! Looking forward to my next visit Z
Love going to Popoli. First, the building is stunning! The Staff is great and make you feel welcomed. The food is always on point and a great wine list, too!
The service was great but nothing else really stood out as something to draw me back in there anytime soon. The food was average but what really got us was the side salad being $10. I could understand if it were $7 but anything above that is just crazy. Honestly, the best part was probably the calamari appetizer and the butter that came with the bread.
Birthday celebration. Everything was perfect. Best total dining experience we’ve had in several years
Very nice restaurant and overall experience. Foos was very good, but not great. Maybe I need to try different things, so I will be back.
Popoli is an excellent place to eat. The interior has wonderful character and is very beautiful. The food was excellent, though one of our group thought the scallop entree' should have included 5 scallops instead of just 3. But overall a very nice experience.
Food was good. Service was a bit slow, but kind. Wish it was quieter... seemed really loud for a high-end eatery.
The food was fabulous, drinks were delicious and service spot on, as always! Love Popoli!
The food was wonderful, ambiance and decor was great as well. Restaurant was full but not packed but service was incredibly slow. We waited 10 minutes after being seated before anyone came over or acknowledged us. Another 10 mins for drinks. The waitress asked if we were going to the show, which we were so I was surprised that staffing was not adequate to accommodate the situation. Food came out fine time wise but the bar and drinks were very slow. Ordered a second drink and took 15 minutes to get and were getting ready to leave by then. Disappointing to say the least considering it was our first time and for the price tag. I have no problem paying for a great meal, drinks and service providing it is earned. This time it missed the mark. But would give another chance.
Our server Ashley is very nice and knowledgeable about the drinks and the menu, she made our dinning enjoyable. The steak nachos are very good.
My had the duck, scallops, mahi mahi and a pasta dish. The flavors were good but portions were tiny. The duck came with a butternut squash risotto that was good but the temp was off and came out luke warm at best.
Amazing place highly recommended
We were there on a busy night and decided to sit at the bar. Appetizers came out with the entree after what seemed like a long wait. Staff was professional. Food was delicious. I would give them another try.
So we have been to this restaurant four times now. I’ll start by simply saying that Alexis was fantastic as our server. Friendly, polite, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I would highly recommend her.
Unfortunately, the kitchen really let her down. It sounded like the table next to us had problems as well but raved about the service from Alexis.
My wife and I both ordered steaks and vegetables. The steaks come with a side option which my wife chose broccoli and I picked Brussels sprouts. My wife got 1 small stalk of broccoli and I got 3 halves of sprouts. Some side.
Also, we were asked if we wanted a steak topper and both my wife and I wanted mushrooms and onions but on the side. As a topper mushrooms and onions are listed as 1 item costing $6. When the bill came they tried to charge us $6 separately for the mushrooms and onions. A $12 steak topper 😀 C’mon. We dine at Chicago steak houses all the time and could never imagine one of them trying to charge you $12 for a mushrooms and onions steak topper.
Really disappointing. Thought we had found a good place to have a nice meal in Cedar Rapids. Now - not sure when we will go back.
Jude rocks his restaurant with superior food, great location and ambiance and a wait staff that exceeds all expectations. It is refreshing to have a meal at a private establishment rather than a mundane, low grade chain.
My Mom’s 86 Birthday was celebrated and w head a wonderful evening. My mom loves creamed spinach and the chef created it especially for her. It was outstanding and the. Eat creamed spinach she has ever had.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday and had a great server! It took a fairly long time to get our food but overall it was ok.
I may give the restaurant another try, as I have heard others who have lots of good things to say. My blackened mahi was very good. DH's housemade bucatini and meatballs were extremely bland. The falafel appetizer was just OK. Our server seemed extremely inexperienced. He did not know how to serve wine properly, and was unable to offer recommendations beyond "this is a popular dish". The building itself is really cool - but the atmosphere was completely ruined by the LOUD DISCO MUSIC playing while we were eating. Le Freak?! Really?! I finally requested a change in music. After about 20 minutes they changed it... to 1950s pop music. Still loud. Still not a good choice for an upscale Italian restaurant.
All good as usual but it was freezing in our booth. The air conditioning was blowing right down on us. Glad I had on long sleeves. Bring a jacket!
The prices are sort of ridiculous for dining there frequently. It’s a “special occasion” place for us.
Overall the restaurant was fine. One pasta dish arrived barely warm, otherwise my rating would have been 4 stars.
The meal was delightful. Our hosts recognized the occasion with a lovely tribute which was not overstated keeping the date intimate and romantic. We truly enjoyed the experience. Thank you so much for making our night so special.
Very expensive for the entire experience.
Our daughter goes to Cornell College in Mount Vernon. Iowa, and we were looking for a special restaurant for her special birthday.
Our server (s) were very customer focused and the food was very good. Our only complaint was that my husband's crab legs certainly didn't look like a one pound serving....they were quite skimpy.
Broccoli salad was burned, otherwise the meal was good. Could have used a little more crab in the pasta.
We always enjoy Popolli. Love the service and atmosphere.
The Red wine at $12/glass should be served in proper red wine glass, not a white wine glass. For the price, the pour is very small.
The king crab Alfredo, although good, had very little king crab.
Overall good experience, but expensive for what you receive.
The place was beautiful, very clean. The waiter was a little distracted or something. Another waitress came and took our salad plates and all the silverware before our entree even arrived. Then our original waiter came back about 15 minutes later and asked us how our entrees were, before we actually got them. Salmon was excellent, but my husband ordered the pork chop, medium and it was dry.
Excellent friendly, professional service. Excellent food! would highly recommend. The interior is gorgeous
Always great food and service! Best rib eye steak ever!
