About POP Champagne Bar & Restaurant
POP Champagne Bar & Restaurant is a warm and welcoming place where friends gather for good times and where dates enjoy a romantic setting. POP is located in Old Pasadena in a historic building that retains many of its original features — brick walls, plank floors, an open- beam ceiling, and Batchelder tiles.
POP’s dinner menu starts with appetizers like jalapeño tuna tartare and beer-battered vegetables, and goes on to include entrée favorites such as champagne chicken, a morel risotto, and filet mignon with truffle mashed potatoes. It also includes salads, cheese and charcuterie platters, and small plates such as pommes frites and a seasonal soup. Our much-praised dessert menu presents classics such as crème brûlée and a soufflé du jour, as well as inventive temptations such as a Meyer lemon tart with homemade basil ice cream. All of our offerings are made in-house, including our breads.

POP Champagne Bar & Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I came here with a group of friends to celebrate a couple of birthdays. Our group planned on bringing a cake, but we called ahead to ensure that this was allowed. I spoke with an employee prior to our reservation. I was told that we could bring in our own cake, but if they [the restaurant] cut the cake that we would be charged $5 a person but if not, then no charge, but they can provide plates and forks. Great, I thought, we can cut the cake ourselves! Our group had ordered some amazing small bites & drinks. We were having a GREAT time. It came time for cake. Our server explained the $5 charge. I explained that I spoke with someone the day before and what I was told. He seemed confused and stated that if that was what I was told okay, but he would check on it. Well, our group cut the cake and ate it. The manager then comes over and grills me about my phone call: who I spoke with, the time of the call, date I called, etc. He continuously asked the same questions over and over again. I thought I spoke with a woman, I was then told no women were working the night I called. I mean really, why would I make this up?! I felt frustrated and after about 3 minutes of back and forth of this I just told the manager to charge us if he must. I am guessing he heard the frustration in my voice because he said that he would only charge us for 1/2 the price of the cake cutting. I said "fine" because at this point I was over it and our time was ruined. I have previously worked in the restaurant industry for Disney and my managers and leads would NEVER have treated a guest like this nor would they have charged, especially since the 1/2 was only $15. I am sure my $15 dollars (of our +$200 bill) wouldn't have hurt the restaurant financially, but I guess the manager needed to make his point & win. It's a shame that we had to encounter this horrible guest service. Our group all agreed that we liked the place, but due to the situation we would never come back. :(
We had a group of 6 and had a very enjoyable evening. Appetizers were delicious and decent sized. We all enjoyed our dinners and desserts as well. Enjoyed a bottle of champagne and a bottle of wine. Service was very good and the place has a nice ambiance. Will go back to try brunch and happy hour.
Went for their NYE Pre-fixe at 7pm. Started off pretty awkward - apparently, the corkage policy wasn't fully explained to me when I reached out via email about it. But the manager said since he didn't explain it, that we would just be charged the standard sparkling corkage fee ($20). So we thanked him! Obviously, if we had known the complete policy, we would have likely made a different decision on the bottles. After that, he moved on and really paid us no mind. We sat waiting with our bottles getting warm on the table for a full 20 minutes, all the while, we saw that same manager going around and chatting and even helping to serve other tables. Ok, we just waited for our server to get around to us. Our server once again mentioned the corkage (can we please stop talking about it though???). He came back quickly though, took our orders, and took care of the bottles - one in the fridge and one in an ice bucket after pouring us our first glass, which was unfortunately pretty warm at that point. After that though, the server took care of us and he was great! Even after our second course came out first (at almost 8pm), he was very apologetic and brought our first course out immediately. And we understand that holiday meals can get crazy. He kept coming around to check on us, and kept our champagne flutes refilled for us even though the bucket was close by and we could've done it ourselves. All-in-all it was our server that saved the experience for us and we were really grateful for that! The food was also really good and the atmosphere was easy-going and quiet enough to chat and generally enjoy ourselves.
Food: definitely get the Proscuitto Wrapped Shrimp - the balsamic glaze and garlicky aioli that go with it are amazing! We ordered 2! Deviled Egg Quartet is fun to experiment with, though I wish you could pick and choose which ones you want. Desserts were great! We got Afternoon Delight - a dessert trio with warm churros (9/10), pavlova (7/10), and a mini creme brulee (9/10) as well as the Chocolate Caramel Creme Brulee (10/10)
Service: slow and scattered (had to ask twice to get a beverage, would take one person's drink order then leave and come back 3-5 minutes later to get 2 or 3 more orders then leave...and then she forgot to enter 2 of the items we ordered, so we ended up having to ask for them again (left 1 person without food for awhile), BUT she was the only server on! Not sure if they just weren't expecting it to be busy or what, but on a Tuesday night at 7pm only having 1 server seems a little rough. A second server did eventually join her (or maybe he was a back waiter), but they would have greatly benefited from more staff on.
Price: on Tuesdays there is ALL DAY HAPPY HOUR!! So the items ended up being really decently priced. $6-10 for most of the small apps which we used to do a tapas-style meal, and I think all wine/champagne is $3 off, which made celebrating my friend's birthday a lot less expensive. For 8 people with at least 15 drinks between us, at least 10 apps/entrees/salads mixed, and 2 desserts, plus a 20% gratuity (automatically added for groups of 6 or more) was about $375
Deviled eggs mildly tasty, worth a try, 4 different egg 1/2s, 4 different tastes $6.00
Prosciutto shrimp, very tasty, a must try, 5 shrimp, roasted garlic aioli needs more garlic $9.00
Champagne Chicken, butter sauce very mild, nice tender chicken with mashed potatoes and a nice amount of perfectly done vegs.$24.00
Dessert, Afternoon Delight, three different desserts together, very good, especially the Creme Brulet $10.00
This is second visit to Pop and we will be back soon.
A great date place or cute get together with the girlfriends. Most food can be shared plates and the wine selection is nice. Food is okay, I would recommend this more for desserts and drinks. The crispy pork belly was overcooked and tough. The flatbread pizza was overloaded and so became soggy under the toppings. My best choice there is the truffle mac and cheese. The churros for dessert is a must!
Normally I love coming here for Sunday brunch, but was a little disappointed on this visit. Service was so so, it was like they really didn't want to be there. And while the place was not packed and it was plenty of seating, they decided to put me next to a small group that spent most of their time arguing while planning for their wedding. Took away from my nice Sunday brunch
I've never seen bread as an appetizer (let alone charging $5 for a sliced baguette) but we ordered it thinking it would come while we were waiting for our food. Unfortunately, it arrived after and we were disappointed to see that it looked like a grocery store bought loaf of bread. Nothing special. I think our waiter was disappointed in our lack of ordering alcoholic beverages. The food was delicious though despite the service.
Took my daughter here for her birthday dinner. We both love champagne and always wanted to try Pop. We were a little underwhelmed! They really need candles on the tables. Pork belly was overdone, dessert bananas foster crepes were burned and not edible, but, to their credit, they didn't charge for it. Main course was the filet mignon was okay, but served with both mashed potatoes and French fries! Really? I would return for happy hour and small plates. All that said, the champagne was fabulous! All in all, a nice, albeit very pricey evening.
Love the flight of champagnes here - good value and our server was very knowledgeable about my selection. Champagne is not the only beverage offered so wine and spirit drinkers should not be deterred. Food is tasty and ideal for sharing - lots of great small plates. The decor is very chic with a bare brick and chandelier theme and nice low lighting. Staff are friendly and attentive but not overly so. It was busy but we still felt well looked after. As it was my birthday they brought out a fun free dessert. One of my new favourite Old Town restaurants.
This eatery is known for the deserts, I see why! I loved the desert. The freshly made cookies 'n' cream. It was wonderful.
The Pork Belly appetizer was one of the BEST appetizers, that I have had... in a LONG time. The main course was good as well.
I had two issues. To me, they are huge. I requested my steak to be well done. It was not. We were on a time crunch so, I could not send the steak back to be cooked thoroughly.
The other issue I had was; we were seated in the far back, in at a small table. Would have liked a larger table. I am not a little man. Once we walked in, I would have expected the hostess' to seat us somewhere different. She did not. My only two complaints.
I will give the restaurant another chance. However, I hope that POP Champagne Bar & Restaurant, reads these reviews and will take my thoughts into consideration.
Old Town is full of restaurants. This eatery is fun and eclectic. However, I pay for the food and the service experience. I would hope the food is cooked, the way I want it cooked next time.
